I see so many tips for going to WDW in the summer. Is there anything we need to know about going to WDW in the winter? We are going for 9 nights in January for the first time. :cheer2:

We usually go in January. This is the hardest month of all to plan. One year we froze to death. Next time it was HOT!!!! I suggest plan for both. We had packed handwarmers, gloves, sweatshirts and heavy coats. Our 2003 trip was funny because we went for 2 weeks. Week 1 we did Disney and had GREAT weather even wore shorts.. Week 2 was FREEEEZING. We used gloves and coats. Glad I read the thread about taking disposable hand warmers those worked great inside our gloves.... The best part of January is the lines are almost non existent. We REALLLY enjoy this time of year

Hand warmers ohhh never even thought of that! What would I have ever done if I hadnt found the Dis! :thumbsup2

We are leaving Jan. 12th for our 9 nights of Disney!! We went this same time last yr and really liked it. Yeah, bring clothes for all weather conditions. We didn't have one drop of rain. The crowds are very low. This will probably be the only time you can wear jeans in Orlando!!! Have a magical time!!

Gloves, gloves and gloves,, ..I thought oh boy january florida and i packed shorts week before we left i read forcast and kept 1 pr. shorts and packed long pants short sleave shirts and wore fleece jackets...And i bought at the dollar store magic gloves for everyone and boy did the 3 little ones need them ....Didnt need the ponchos but needed jackets and gloves....

We've gone to WDW in January twice and we're returning again in 2007. We've learned to dress in layers. The weather always warmed up nicely in the afternoons when we've been there, so we just shed the windbreaker or sweatshirt. We've never needed gloves, then again we're from the Phila. area and are used to colder weather. We just LOVE going in January because there are no lines, the rates are great, and the parks are ours! You will love it!

I just booked a Jan 07 trip. This will be my first time going to WDW in January, not too worried about the weather...being from New England i know i can handle the change in temps...not even going to think about bringing gloves. Sweatshirt & jeans yes.

LOL, I am a south Louisiana girl, I will def. be packing the gloves. Us folks in the south think we are freezing to death if it gets below 50 degrees. ;)

We've been to Disney in January four times, and are going again this coming January :cool1:

As mentioned, you definately want to pack for all kinds of weather (excluding snow, of course). Shorts, pants, tees, sweaters, baseball caps, tuques, gloves, etc. Sometimes you're entire vacation will be jsut cold, or just hot, and then there will be years where its freezing Monday and is scorching by Wednesday.

On the bright side, though, there are barely any lines and it's not very crowded. :)

I agree with everyone here. Late Jan, early Feb is my favorite time of the year. in WDW and we've gone then many times. Layering is the best advice because it makes room for all kinds of weather. Unfortunately this makes packing light impossible but I just figure its the tradeoff for lower crowds and prices. The best thing you can do is be prepared and hope you don't end up needing it all. Some years I left most of my stuff in the suitcase untouched and other years I've emptied them out. The cold isn't a problem as long as YOU are not cold.

When we go my list includes: our winter coats, 1 oversized fleece pullover each with hoods(to fit over other stuff), 1 oversized sweatsuit each, 2 pairs of jeans, 2 pairs of shorts and a few lightweight cotton pants, a couple of T-shirts each and a couple of long sleeves each, gloves & hats. Most days a fleece coverup over a long sleeve over a t-shirt is the perfect way to ride out the changes in temperature. But, some days can be around 80 so shorts & t-shirts will be the way to go with the fleece jacket for the morning chill. Once we had a day when it was almost freezing out so I layered the kids with almost everything I had, T-shirt, long sleeve, sweatshirt, fleece pullover, gloves and hat while the bottoms were jeans with sweatpants over them. Don't be scared, the REALLY cold day only happened to us once and it was this year but I was soooooooooooooooooo happy I was prepared.

Have an awsome trip, maybe we'll see you there

We're also taking our first trip to WDW this coming January. Like everyone has mentioned, I've heard that the weather is really unpredictable, so we're planning to layer and hope for the best :)
