I was wondering what the pros and cons were of going to Disney from the last few days of December to the first week and a half of January.

P.S I plan on doing the marathon so any opinions on that would be wonderful as well!

We've gone to WDW for the past 8 years right after Christmas and into early January including several New Years Eves at EPCOT. There seem to be more cons than pros but it's still a great time to go.

Pros: You're at WDW (how can you beat that?!). The Christmas decorations are still up. The Christmas parade is still running (DW loves the toy soldiers). The weather usually isn't too bad (I'm from the Chicago area and this past winter saw -20 degree days. We enjoyed 70 degrees at Disney while laughing at the suckers back home).

Cons: Crowds (EPCOT on NYE saw wall to wall people with people sleeping on the floors in the shops in China). Room rates are very high. Not sure about this but it seemed that the restaurant prices were up. Weather again (we had a couple days where it was in the 70's during the day and it would drop into the upper 40's at night. It still beat -20 back home). Back on the crowd issue, after January 1st the crowds die down a bit.

Every year we say we're not going back at the end of the year and every year we find ourselves with wall to wall people waiting for the NYE fireworks in EPCOT because it's just that awesome!

I very much like the beginning of January. Low park crowds. You usually can catch the Christmas decorations still up and Osbourne lights and all that jazz. It also isn't hot.

The cons would be, it can get kinda chilly. Especially if you're wanting to go to a water park or beach or something. Also, things close for returbs. Like splash mountain.

We have this same plan. Arriving in the 30th, EPCOT for NYE, and running the 1/2 marathon the following weekend. Never been for NYE before, so in interested in an and all suggestions.

Going 12/27-1/3. We know it will be packed. We plan on taking our time and trying to enjoy small things. Maybe see the different resorts. I think NYE we will do DHS instead of Epcot. Going to do the midnight fireworks on 12/30 at MK. It's always a fun time just know going in it will be packed.

From the 22nd to Sunday the 4th will be as busy as it gets, especially between Christmas and New Years, largest crowds of the year for sure,I won't be there!!I will be there to run the Goofy Challenge the next weekend, much nicer crowds.

We went on New Years Day 2013 thinking people might start going home those first few days, but they didn't seem to clear out until the second week of January, right when we were leaving, too. It was crowded and rainy, although I don't know if rain is common during that time. I don't recall having a hard time going on rides, though, so that was nice. However, it was before FP+ rolled in. Don't get me wrong, we still had a great time! It's Disney, afterall!
