I live in the St.louis area and all our local channels are say that there is a rumor that Disney has bought property in Branson missouri. Has anyone else heard this. All the stations mentioned in tonight.

I've read this on both the "Laughing Place" daily news and also on "Dis" news---no idea if there is any truth to it but it would be closer to us than WDW!

That rumor has been around as almost as long as I have!!!

Disney did help design this property a few years back, http://www.bransonlanding.com/current_leases.html

This is a story I found:

Disney rumor reignited

Newton County officials told of possible theme park plans.

A request for road improvements for a $1.1 billion theme park in Newton County has led to new speculation about the Walt Disney Co.'s interest in southwest Missouri.
Rumors that a Disney attraction was coming to Branson were rampant in the mid-1990s. Now, Newton County Commissioners are investigating whether Disney could be linked to a theme park proposal made earlier this month.

Jerry Carter, Newton County Presiding Commissioner, said the notion arose after Todd Marshall, who said he represented a Springfield company called ARM Risk, attended the April 12 commissioners' meeting. Carter asked about changes on county roads leading to the location the company is considering for a theme park.

A list of specifications Marshall gave the commissioners included first-phase construction costs of $1.1 billion, land purchases of 1,000 acres with the park taking 100 acres, six hotels, 95 shops, 27 rides, 12 stages and 18 restaurants.

"We want to be cautious and careful," Carter said. "We live in an opportunistic world and sometimes things come along we can't even conceive of."

A possible Disney connection was raised when commissioners checked the company owners. On a form called "Registration of Fictitious Name" filed with the Missouri Secretary of State's office in March for ARM Risk, three owners are listed. Corporations routinely file such forms.

The owners are Michael Hill of Wilmington, Del.; Robert Brown, who lists his address as 500 South Buena Vista St., Burbank, Calif.; and Jason Johnson, who lists his address as Corporate Office, Lake Buena Vista, Fla.

On the Internet, commissioners found that the Burbank address is corporate headquarters of the Walt Disney Co. Lake Buena Vista, Fla., is headquarters of Walt Disney World Resort.

Officials at Disney headquarters in Burbank said the company would not comment on the matter.

The secretary of state's office has only an administrative role in filing business registrations, said communications assistant Ryan Hobart.

When someone signs the registration, he or she is legally bound to give correct information, Hobart said.

ARM Risk's address is listed as 1926 S. Glenstone Ave., Suite 353, Springfield, on the registration.

Todd Marshall could not be reached for comment. No phone listing could be obtained for ARM Risk.

Carter, who is 71, is a Newton County native. He said that such a project would forever change the county. The area where the company is seeking to buy land is mostly small acreage and some farms of 60 to 100 acres, Carter said. It is in the southwest quadrant of the junction of U.S. 71 and Interstate 44.

Some residents would be interested in the project, and some wouldn't, he predicted.

"We're right between two of the largest growth areas in southwest Missouri and northwest Arkansas, so we are becoming accustomed to shock here," Carter said. Just to the south is the Bentonville area and to the north is Joplin.

"It'll never be what it used to be."

In Branson, Herschend Family Entertainment spokes- woman Lisa Rau said they had not heard of the plans. The company owns the Silver Dollar City and Celebration City theme parks and other attractions.

Ross Summers, director of the Branson Lakes/Area Chamber of Commerce, said he also had heard of no such plans by Disney.

"These Disney rumors have floated around here for as long as I can remember," Summers said.

Developer Glenn Patch heard lots of Disney rumors after he purchased 7,000 acres of land just south of Hollister in the early '90s. His land is now the site of two golf courses, upscale homes and a commercial airport in development.

"When I was first coming here, I thought about painting a pair of black ears on my plane just for the fun of it," Patch said.

It would be a lot closer but I really don't think this will happen. It get so cold here.

That rumor has been around as almost as long as I have!!!

Well let's not exaggerate, but I remember when we lived in the area and that rumor started about 15 years ago.

I also remember when they were talking about buying Exotic Animal Paradise near Lebanon, Missouri.

If true, doubtful it would be a WDW type theme park. Perhaps a "Williamsburg Colonial Village" type theme. Disney was kicking that around for awhile, rumor had it.

I love going to Branson so it would be nice if they got something like that there. I really don't see them building Magic kingdom there. Anything owned by Disney would be great though.

My guess is it will be for a mixed use residential community.

Uhh Mitchie, its for a theme park, thats why they started wondering if it was Disney.

"A list of specifications Marshall gave the commissioners included first-phase construction costs of $1.1 billion, land purchases of 1,000 acres with the park taking 100 acres, six hotels, 95 shops, 27 rides, 12 stages and 18 restaurants."

But that is just phase 1. Who knows what 2 or 3 includes.:confused3

I actually live in Springfield, MO and live just about 45 minutes from the Joplin area where the "rumors" have them building something. Branson is about 30 minutes in another direction. If the "rumors" are true, YIPEE for me! Maybe I can get a job there???? I wonder if they will have a need for a payroll processor????:rolleyes1 My BIL & SIL live in Joplin, they have also heard the rumors but, of course, there is nothing confirmed. GO DISNEY!! We could sure use a mouse in these neck of the woods. Y'all come see us, ya hear? (A little Missouri, Ozarks humoe there):rotfl2:

I live just outside of Branson, and the Disney rumor seems to turn up every few years for as long as I can remember.

As much as I would LOVE it, I don't see it happening. *EVERYTHING* in Branson closes down in Jan/Feb- we're all sitting around unemployed for two months. I just don't see Disney building a park somewhere that couldn't stay open year-round.

I don't buy a park for a second -- Branson is too hard to reach because of the terrain and the weather is not good for a long chunk of the year.

If they have indeed purchased land recently, my money is on a resort hotel, possibly including DVC. The company did announce not long ago that they plan to expand the Disney resorts brand to a lot of markets that do not have Disney theme parks.

Branson isn't really that hard to reach. Hwy 65 takes you straight to it, anyway, they are not talking about the Branson area, they are looking near Joplin, which is to the west of Branson, quite a ways. The weather here is pretty mild all year, This past winter was the worst we have had in literally years.

A: It isn't true. It's never true. They're not building a theme park in Branson, or down the street from you, or where that farm is across town. No matter what your cousin/real estate agent friend/aunt at town hall said.

B: Read JimHillMedia.com yesterday, where he lists the oddities in the story and links to a new article from the reporter that broke the story and confirms Disney says they weren't in the area in any form.

Well, I'd love to see Disney build anything in the area since I live only a little over an hour away. But I doubt it will ever happen. Oh well, I guess I'll just have to visit Silver Dollar City (a much smaller theme park in Branson) in between our trips to WDW.

Every few years these type of rumors start flying. I don't believe Disney is going to build a park here. If and this is a huge if, they build anything, the only thing believable would be a DVC property similar to what they did in Hilton Head and Vero Beach. Again, thats a BIG IF.
