Hurricane Preparedness Message

From the Walt Disney World® Resort

Thursday, August 12, 7 p.m.

Walt Disney World continues to monitor Hurricane Charley, taking proactive measures for potential impact to guests and cast. These measures include communication on an on-going basis, the clean up and tie down of any loose materials and the consideration of adjusting operating hours. There are also protected areas for animals, if determined necessary.

As of now, Walt Disney World theme parks are scheduled to open on Friday, August 13. If weather conditions dictate changes, you will be notified via email early Friday morning.

Hope this helps!
Michael

Blizzard Beach will be open from 9 a.m. - 1 p.m. Typhoon Lagoon and Downtown Disney will be closed for the day.

An abbreviated schedule will provide entertainment for the tens of thousands of Resort guests staying on Walt Disney World property. Local residents and off-site guests are encouraged to reschedule their theme park visits until the inclement weather passes.

All Walt Disney World Resort hotels will remain open throughout the storm. Guests staying at Disney's Ft. Wilderness Resort & Campground have been relocated to other hotels on property.

The Walt Disney World Resort has an extensive hurricane preparedness plan, and is staffed and prepared for a realm of possible impacts this type weather could have across property.

A temporary cancellation and "No Show" policy has been adopted for travel agents who have booked reservations through Walt Disney World or the Walt Disney Travel Company (agents that have booked through another tour operator should contact that company for its specific cancellation policy).

"No Show" penalties will be waived for any Guest arrivals between Aug. 11, 2004 and Aug. 15, 2004.
Clients impacted by these storms can have their reservation rebooked for another time period and apply the existing deposit/payment, or cancel and have the deposit/payment fully refunded.
The Disney Reservation Center (DRC) will be available from 7 a.m. - 1 p.m. to book or modify package and room-only reservations but will not be taking dining, recreation or golf reservations. DRC will return to normal operating hours on Saturday from 7 a.m.- 11 p.m.

Disney Cruise Line is operating as scheduled.

I understand that Fort Wilderness guest have been evacuated to POR. - HM

Thanks for the updates, it's hard to get accurate information up here in the sticks!!;)

Looks worse than we hoped for. Im on the west coast and even made a safe room out of our bathroom if it really gets nasty.

Depends on where the storm goes, some forcasts have it going over Orlando as a Cat 1 still and that is why Disney is closing down.

www.orlandosentinel.com has a lot of up to date info and the current WDW closings.

It does seem this may be bigger than expected with a large storm surge. Stay safe -- especially all you folks on the West Coast.

We will say a prayer for you all. Stay safe and don't forget about you pets.

If you go to www.instacam.com you can view webcams of the weather around Florida. There's even one from the Swan&Dolphin resorts looking at Epcot.

To everyone down there: stay safe! We're keeping our fingers crossed for you.

Hugs from Michigan!

This will link you to a Tampa Bay area news site that shows maps of evacuation areas. Click on your county and you can see, down to the street level (although only major streets are named) what the evacuation level is for the area you're interested in. I've posted this elsewhere on this site but I figured this situation is so important and people wouldn't mind. I hope that's okay.

Just talked to Amy that works at YC IPO. She said they're closing the lounge and sending cast members home. The only restaurants that will be open are Yacht Club Galley and Cape May and they will serve a continuous non-stop buffet. The parks are closing at 1:00 pm she confirmed.

There is a hurricane wind warning for the areas around and including Orlando so it isn't going to be fun later here in the day.

I have to drag myself away from the Weather Channel to make an appt. I'll be thinking of all y'all the rest of today, stay safe everybody.

Someone that works at the Polynesian emailed me yesterday morning and told me they were already going through the standard preparations for a hurricane and they expected it to hit this afternoon.

TAKE COVER, this is nothing to play around IN!::yes:: Should be feeling it in about an hour or so, take cover, and stay INSIDE!::yes:: Prayers and Pixie Dust.......Faith.

Just heard on the weather channel that they are upgradeing Charley to a cat4
and that it is looks like it is going to hit Ft Meyers.
Hope everyone is safe
