We will be going to disney at xmas and are staying in the AKL. Although we have been many times before we have not stayed on site.
My question is this we are looking at going to some of the other resorts, which would you visit and what is there to do there? Are there any nice restaurants that are worth a visit? :woohoo:

At Christmas, I would visit GF, WL, POFQ as a bare miminum and as many of the others as you can get to.

Restaurants worth visiting - in my opinion - are
Cape May at BC
Jiko's at AKL and Boma is worth a try, though exremely noisey
Spoodles at BW
Grand Floridian Cafe at GF and 1900 Park Fayre
Ohanas at Poly lots like - I can take it or leave it
Chef Mickeys at CR, another noisey one

Have a look at
http://www.allearsnet.com/din/dining.htm
and see what takes your fancy - there are loads to choose from.

Wow! tashas mum theres sooo much to do!
starting at the values there are a lot of huge icons and fun photo areas, these aren't worth visiting to eat as theres only food courts there but if you were passing and wanted to visit a giant pongo or buzz lightyear they're fun!
port orleans riverside and french quarter are beautiful they have horse and carriage rides, there are good restaurants in almost every resort, to have a look at sample menus and see if there is anything that takes your fancy have a look at allears.net and search 'dining' then 'menus'.
Wilderness lodge has hay rides, horse rides, and a nightly campfire followed by a huge outdoor movie screen, and you get to sing along with chip 'n' dale too!
check out the old faithful style geyser too
If you go to the top of this page and click on resorts it'll give you a good run down of each hotel and its facilities

Thanks for the replies. We have looked at the sample menus but i prefer to go by word of mouth, i.e anybody tried these restaurants out?

We were in WDW last December and had a great time visiting the resorts to look at the Christmas decorations and trees. Quite a few resorts also have special festive events and things like ginger bread house displays - the one in the Grand Floridian is huge! You can actually walk inside it!

If you plan to use Disney transport to resort hop it can be difficult as there are no direct buses between resorts. The easiest resorts to hop between are the MK resorts (Polynesian, Grand Floridian and Contemporary - all on the resort monorial, plus Wilderness Lodge via a boat from MK), and the Epcot resorts (Swan, Dolphin, Beach Club, Yacht Club and Boardwalk - you can actually work between these resorts from the Epcot International Gateway entrance or take one of the Friendship boats, also from the Epcot International Gateway or from MGM Studios). You can also walk from MGM to the Epcot resort area.

To hop to other resorts you will need to go via a park or Downtown Disney.

The monorail resorts (Polynesian/Contemporary/GF) are some of the easiest to visit. There are some fantastic restaurants at the Grand Floridian - V&A, Narcoosee's and Citricos are all wonderful. 'Ohana at the Polynesian is fun as well, and California Grill over at the Contemporary is nice (but over-rated in my opinion).

Don't forget Jiko at AKL as well. I thought the food here was very good, just a shame about the waitstaff and atmosphere :(

Crikey Frances, I thought I was the only one to have that opinion! Perhaps we were there on the same night ;)

I recommend a trip round the Epcot resorts - Yacht & Beach Club & Boardwalk. They have some lovely Xmas displays :thumbsup2 There are also the Swan & Dolphin hotels but I haven't visited these at Xmas so can't comment.

I have eaten at tons of different WDW eateries and enjoyed tremendously almost all of them :thumbsup2 but my favourites (for different reasons) are:

Cape May Cafe
Le Cellier
Boma
Brown Derby
Crystal Palace
Kona Cafe
'Ohana
Chef Mickey's
Mom's 50s Prime Time Cafe

Frances999 could you please elaborate on the problem with the staff and atmosphere at Jikos.
