I must not be understanding you guys lol
I typically just buy gift cards with $25 and $50 denominations from the grocery store. Then I go home and transfer that amount to one of the cards I have listed on the website. Then once I have two cards with say $400 on each, I will transfer one of the $400 balances to the other card so now I have one card with $800.
Anyhoo, should be interesting to see really how much this new process really changes things.
We do similar, although we usually buy $100 or $500 cards at the local BJs Club because they are discounted there (same with Target if you use your Red Card, or at Sam's Club... but the discount at BJ's and Sam's can vary)... and combine them into "big cards" with $1000 maximum on them that we use to pay for our room, food, annual passes, etc.
You are doing exactly what we do, and you are NOT running into the two limits...
The limits are...
- A single card can not hold more than $1000. If the balance transfer operation means the resulting card will have over $1000, it will fail. Example: If Card A has $700 and Card B has $400 on it, you can't transfer the balance because the result would be a card with $1100 which isn't allowed. BUT If Card A has $500 and Card B has $400 you can transfer balance and combine them because the result would be one card with $900.
- You can't transfer part of the balance on one card to another. You must transfer the entire balance on a card to another. Example: If Card A has $500 and Card B has $0, you can't move $100 (part) from Card A onto Card B.
As for the new process.....
Based on Disney's email and web site posting, the only thing that will change is the Login ID you use for the Disney Gift Card web site.
In the past, you established a separate login which is unique to the Disney Gift Card web site. While you could use the same email that you used on other Disney sites, they were not connected. If you changed your Disney Gift Card web site password, it didn't impact your "My Disney Experience" log in, or
Shop Disney log in.
Disney has been "connecting" authentication on their web sites so you'll have one login for ALL Disney sites. Now its Disney Gift Card dot com's turn.
So after this change is done Today/tonight... you'll be logging into the Disney Gift Card web site with the same Disney account/password you use for My Disney Experience, Shop Disney, Walt Disney World web site,
Disneyland web site, their respective apps, etc. If you need to change your password on the Disney World web site, it will change the password you use to log into Disney Gift Card, etc.
While Disney hasn't said this yet (at least not that I've seen), we can only HOPE this will allow us to make use of the cards we have in the Gift Card Web site as a payment method in the Disney World, or Disneyland, app when on property for like Mobile order and stuff, or even in Shop Disney, WITHOUT having to enter the card number each time. If not now, maybe in the future? We can also HOPE they will add the features of allowing more than $1000 max per card, or allow for partial balance transfers. But I have no idea if they will actually add this.
