Disney giftcard.com closing Jan 19, 2021

I have over $1400 US consolidated amongst three cards on the site. I still have the cards at home. I am just waiting for the Cdn/US exchange rate to hit $0.80 and then I am calling disney and adding the whole amount to my resort reservation. I hate having that amount just sitting in my sock drawer.

Oh .. so as long as you still have the original cards .. the balances and everything will be the same. Okay. I just used the site to consolidate all the $50-100 cards I would buy at Target into one or two large ones. I think I have 5 "active" cards (with money on them) .. so just the login is consolidating with the other Disney site stuff .. shouldn't be a bad thing I guess.

Yes, just make sure you have those cards. I literally have like 50 empty cards in my sock drawer with zero balances on them from consolidating.

Correct, but if all the cards are $600, then you would be over $1000. You cannot do a partial balance transfer.
I have done a partial balance transfer. A few years ago when DD was on a school trip and needed more spending money.

What do you mean by this? I literally just consolidated two of my cards on the site into one. The balance is now $777.40 US which is $980 CDN when you do the currency converter.

They were asking about consolidating multilple $600 cards. Max is $1000 so you could not combine the $600 cards as it would go over the limit.

I guess I should go back and look at the interface more closely. It's been a while since I tried but I don't remember there being an option to transfer any less then the full balance of the card to another.
There isn't. You can only transfer the full balance from one card to another.

They do not allow transferring partial balance.

What do you mean by this? People keep saying on here that we can’t transfer partial balances?

If you have, say, two GCs - one with $600 and one with $500, you cannot transfer funds from one one to the other, as the max amount for any GC is $1000, and you have to transfer the entire amount of one card to another. You can't transfer just part of the funds from one card to another.

What is the new system? I thought there was supposed to be some new site (or incorporating gift card management into MDE)? Is there any new way to manage gift cards now that the old one is shut down?

You can only transfer the full balance from one card to another.

So if card A has $500 on it, you can not transfer $200 to card B, leaving $300 on A.

And as has been discussed, you can't combine cards to total over $1000.. so if you have Card A with $500, and Card B with $600, you can't combine them because it would put the resulting card over the $1000 limit.

My understanding is the new site opens on Jan 20, 2021.

The only change will be the login process.

You will no longer have a log in that is unique to the Gift Card web site. Instead it will be the same log in used on the other Disney web sites.

As I read it, it will function the same way but you will be using your MDE email and password.

I am confused. I know about the $1000 limit for each card.

Just recently, I combined two cards. One had $500 US and the other had $200 US. I combined them to one card no problem for $700 US. I am still under the $1000 cdn threshold.

We were typing at the same time. That is how I read it as well.

Yes, that is acceptable because it is under $1000.

What are you confused about?

The bolder statement is what confused me.

Let's say you are a party of 4 and you want to split up the balance so everyone has $200 for equal spending cash in the parks (or gifts or whatever). You have 4 cards, $500, $250, $50 and $0. You can't go on the site and split that up into exactly $200 on each card. You can only transfer full amounts.
