Disney giftcard.com closing Jan 19, 2021

It has always been clear that it is NOT a mobile wallet and you need to keep your gift cards.

I have one card on there left.. it was a digital refund and it would not transfer because it was a store credit.
I had lost the email with the digital card but the account reminded me to retrieve it before it was lost.
I never attended it to be a wallet

The bolder statement is what confused me.
If you have a card with say $500 on it.. you can't transfer part of that $500 off to another card. You have to transfer the full balance on the card onto another.

So like my family is going on a trip trip, I got a $500 card at the store. I have some left over card with $0 on them (we used on past trips) and I wanted to put some money on one of them for our son to have his own spending money. I can not move a little from the $500 card onto another card. The Disney system would let me transfer the full $500 to another card, but not part of it.

And of course this always has the limit of $1000 max per card. So....

I must not be understanding you guys lol

I typically just buy gift cards with $25 and $50 denominations from the grocery store. Then I go home and transfer that amount to one of the cards I have listed on the website. Then once I have two cards with say $400 on each, I will transfer one of the $400 balances to the other card so now I have one card with $800.

Anyhoo, should be interesting to see really how much this new process really changes things.

You are not transferring partial balances when you do this. What we are all saying is that you cannot transfer $200 of one on those $400 cards onto another. You must transfer the full $400 or none at all. Nothing is changing except the login process.

Thats what we do as well.. it was the new " dining plan" .. copy and paste the giftcard number in your phone memory then you can add it quickly to the MDE to order because the cards wont save.
I can't believe how fast $25 gc add up

We do similar, although we usually buy $100 or $500 cards at the local BJs Club because they are discounted there (same with Target if you use your Red Card, or at Sam's Club... but the discount at BJ's and Sam's can vary)... and combine them into "big cards" with $1000 maximum on them that we use to pay for our room, food, annual passes, etc.

You are doing exactly what we do, and you are NOT running into the two limits...

The limits are...
  1. A single card can not hold more than $1000. If the balance transfer operation means the resulting card will have over $1000, it will fail. Example: If Card A has $700 and Card B has $400 on it, you can't transfer the balance because the result would be a card with $1100 which isn't allowed. BUT If Card A has $500 and Card B has $400 you can transfer balance and combine them because the result would be one card with $900.
  2. You can't transfer part of the balance on one card to another. You must transfer the entire balance on a card to another. Example: If Card A has $500 and Card B has $0, you can't move $100 (part) from Card A onto Card B.
As for the new process.....

Based on Disney's email and web site posting, the only thing that will change is the Login ID you use for the Disney Gift Card web site.

In the past, you established a separate login which is unique to the Disney Gift Card web site. While you could use the same email that you used on other Disney sites, they were not connected. If you changed your Disney Gift Card web site password, it didn't impact your "My Disney Experience" log in, or Shop Disney log in.

Disney has been "connecting" authentication on their web sites so you'll have one login for ALL Disney sites. Now its Disney Gift Card dot com's turn.

So after this change is done Today/tonight... you'll be logging into the Disney Gift Card web site with the same Disney account/password you use for My Disney Experience, Shop Disney, Walt Disney World web site, Disneyland web site, their respective apps, etc. If you need to change your password on the Disney World web site, it will change the password you use to log into Disney Gift Card, etc.

While Disney hasn't said this yet (at least not that I've seen), we can only HOPE this will allow us to make use of the cards we have in the Gift Card Web site as a payment method in the Disney World, or Disneyland, app when on property for like Mobile order and stuff, or even in Shop Disney, WITHOUT having to enter the card number each time. If not now, maybe in the future? We can also HOPE they will add the features of allowing more than $1000 max per card, or allow for partial balance transfers. But I have no idea if they will actually add this.

Has anyone tested this out yet? Today is Jan 20.
I don't think the change is live yet.

I just tried. I can't get logged into the Gift Card site with my Disney Credentials. And apparently I tried too many times as the Gift Card site says my card is locked. That being said, I was then able to log into the Walt Disney World site using my Disney Credentials, so they aren't locked, again leading me to believe the change to the Gift Card site hasn't gone live yet.

Yeah, still seems to be the old site. Was able to log in with my old GC password. I have some card management to do before our trip next week, hope the new version goes live very soon.

Im trying the website (which looks just like the original one) and it's just spinning...

perhaps we're too early!

I buy $25 cards at Kroger every paycheck to save for my trips. I bought one today to start for my Oct trip. Just went to the site and saw the change message will be Feb 2. I think I should wait to transfer it to one of my other cards.

One thing I want to ask tho. Usually when I transfer it to one of my other cards, I toss the Kroger card. Are you all saying I should keep it?

No, you don't need to save those $25 cards once you've transferred the funds to a different card.

Ok - so I went to the new site to add my cards back. It only allows 6 cards. I have 7 that I like to change up which one I use. Counting having a place to add one when I buy it at Kroger, so I can only list 5 of them. To transfer, you click on the card you want the money to go on and it gives you a option to transfer a balance. of any other card that is listed. You check the one you want transferred and then it gives you the option to delete it. Took a minute to figure out how to navigate the site but figured it out pretty easily.
