So I was told to make sure I have a physical card or the whole number because everything will be deleted.
I have a Disney store gift card that I can not transfer to my other balances. I lost the card I had. What do I do? I tried to get an empty card at target but that did not work because the card was not activated.

DisneyGiftCard.com will be upgraded on January 20, 2021. All existing DisneyGiftCard.com account details (logins and gift cards added) will no longer be available after January 19, 2021. As a reminder, your account is not a mobile wallet and should not be considered as such. Always be sure to keep your physical and digital Disney Gift Card(s) with you as it will be required to make any purchases.
Once live on January 20, 2021, the enhanced site will allow visitors to utilize their existing ‘Disney account’ to login; using the same login credentials across multiple Disney sites and apps including: shopDisney, My Disney Experience, WaltDisneyWorld.com and Disneyland.com.
Prior to the website enhancement on January 20, 2021, please be sure that you take the following steps:

  • Have access to your Disney Gift Card(s), including your full 16-digit account number and EAN to add your card(s) onto the updated website.
  • Starting January 20, 2021, please visit DisneyGiftCard.com to create a new account, or use your existing Disney account login, and enter your gift card(s) information into the My Cards section.

Access to the Disney Gift Card web site is changing. The log in will change from "only to this site" to "Same ID for All Disney Sites"... so just the accounts and log ins currently used to access the Disney Gift Card web site is going away. The balances on the cards will not be impacted.

If, as I read your post, you lost the physical card (or eGift Card) that you added to the Gift Card web site which still has a balance, then yes, you need to take action.

You said you got an empty card at Target but it wasn't activated?? I did not know you can buy a $0 card anywhere. Usually you must purchase a card with a dollar amount on it ($25, $50, $100, specify your own amount from $25 and up, etc), and they activate when you purchase it.

If you have any cards (physical or eGift card) with balance on the Disney Gift Card web site, and no longer have the physical card, eGift card or full set of numbers... Purchase and activate a NEW Disney Gift Card with $25 or so (lower is better) at a local store (Target, Kohls, Walmart, Sams, BJ's, etc). Add the newly activated card to the gift card site and transfer the balances to the new card. Then put that card in a safe place to use it when you want to. Keep in mind, the gift cards can hold a max balance of $1000, and you must transfer the balance IN FULL from one card to another.

IF you have older Disney Gift Cards with $0 balance that were used on past trips or visits to the Disney Store, or a friend has one they they no longer need/use... you can still use them instead of purchasing a new card.

I will say in the past (5+ years ago) there have been some gift cards I got as Promotions with a specified amount (I got a $50 one as a bonus.. as well as a $100 one) I NEVER could add funds to or transfer the balance from other cards to them. I could however transfer the funds from those promo cards, to a regular store purchased card.

Our trip is right before this thankfully. Don’t have to deal with the stress of it happening before our trip

I always ask here first because it's so much easier than calling thanks all.
I edited the original to add the quote from the webpage.

How did you purchase a Disney Gift card at Target with no !money on it? You need to put a dollar amount on it, or if it states a n amount ($25, 50, 100) it gets activated at the register and you get a receipt showing activation.

I did not, I asked if I could have it. I did not know it has to be " activated"

Seems like the easiest solution would be to just buy something with the gift card information you currently have. The website was never available to be used as a virtual wallet for direct purchases. If the card and serial number were both lost, you wouldn't be able to use the balance regardless of the upgrades to the website. However, the serial number should be available through the website. Obviously, it has to be recorded when you store a card. If you currently bought something with the serial number and returned the item you bought, they would just issue another Disney Store Merchandise Credit Card. Just seems much easier options are available to avoid losing the balance.

Just a question to clarify... if you have moved all gift card amounts to a single physical gift card, things should be fine as long as you have that physical card? Correct?

What about all the people who do not know, have card balances and no card.. Disney will come out ahead.
All those forgot about /small balances add up

Thanks, I hate this.

I LIKED having separate accounts. I don't mind all the park logins being tied together, and even DCL, but I detest having my Disney+ tied to it, and I dont see why a gift card needs to be either. They're making our logins more and more tempting to hackers. Where is my cane to shake....
You always have the option to set up different accounts using a different email address. I didn't want my Disney+ linked to my MDE stuff in any way, so I just created a new gmail account (free) and used that for Disney+. You'll be able to do the same thing here if you really would prefer to keep them separate.

I wonder if, since the new version of the site will share logins, you'll be able to select a stored card when making purchases through the MDE app, like when mobile ordering in the parks or when doing online check-in for the resorts. That really would be a nice feature to have.
