Disney gift cards

I read a post about getting Disney gift cards at Target. I have seen them elsewhere but that brings up some questions…
Can they be used anywhere in WDW? I am thinking yes but what about at the food kiosks that sell water, ice cream and snacks?

Also, anybody know if the Disney Store still carries "Disney Dollars"?

Since we are "thinking" of going back in July, I was going to start getting gift cards for the kids so they can spend it however they want.

Thanks!

Disney gift cards can be used pretty much everywhere in WDW. About the only thing I can think of where you couldn't use them is with the CMs who aren't actually at kiosks, like for instance the ones who sell balloons or who sell light-up toys just before MSEP. As far as I know, no one sells Disney dollars anymore.

Last time I was there, I was able to buy Disney Dollars in the City Hall (Guest Relations) at Magic Kingdom.

can you swipe your magic band at the balloon vendor? i wasn't planning on bringing any cash to the parks

No, they can only take cash. And it's always a good idea to take some cash with you as a backup in case the there's a glitch in the card reader/magic band reader system.

The Disney Store no longer carries Disney Dollars. You can only buy them at WDW. If you want to use them to as incentives for your kids to earn, you could always print your own version, then have your kids "cash them in" for Disney gift cards before the trip.

Some years ago (maybe 3-4?) a kiosk in a water park couldn't take a gift card. Maybe changed since then (?)

Can I please add a question to the original - - if you have gift cards but want to use magic bands/"room charge" do you go later in stay to apply gift cards to your account or can you add the gift cards earlier such as on arrival? Is there any choice of how to do this - online yourself rather than by the resort CM, for example?

Thanks

You have to apply them to your account.

You'll need to stop by the front desk to apply your gift cards after you have a balance on your room account. It depends on your charge limit as to when your credit card gets charged so you'll need to stop by before you reach that limit... smaller limit at a Value as compared to a Moderate or Deluxe.

We went to WDW doe 8 days at Christmas. We only took $100 cash. We did not use it all. We used it at the airport for food, to tip the ME bus driver both ways and to tip the bell man that delivered our groveries and owners locker from the front. Everything else went on our magic bands and we paid that off with gift cards purchased at Kroger for $x fuel points. It is very easy to go cash less.

THANKS! I have done this before, but it has been awhile and wanted to verify worked the same. Would be cool to apply them myself online, but I'll find some downtime to pop over to the desk to take care of it.
