Disney Gift Card Deals

I would like to use self checkout at my Target to use Target GC to buy Disney GC. How do the purchased Disney GC get activated when bought through self checkout? Also, if I am using my smartphone to bring up Target GC, how to pay with this? I will get 10% off Target GC by ordering with H&R Block Refund Bonus, so its still worth it to me to buy them without the extra 5% Redcard discount. TIA!

The self checkout at my Target will not accept mobile gift cards. Not sure why but they do not work. I go to customer service and have them convert the mobile cards to a physical card first.

We used the self check out to buy Disney GC with physical Target gift cards and I was SO worried about the activation part but it all worked perfectly. I went home and checked and merged all my cards online that night. Actually it worked better than standing in line because I'm faster on the computer (lol, Millennial here) and I didn't have to deal with a hesitant employee worried they might be breaking the rules.

(I was forced to try it after buying a ton of Disney GCs on the Dec promo and having the manager come up & tell me I could NOT use them for more Disney GC, he tried desperately to find where there was a limit on how many I could purchase but there wasn't so he was stuck. I went to another Target and self checked out with the GCs so I didn't have that problem again!)

I wish my Target had a self check out! Dang. My little town and our one Target store are so behind the times lol

I'm in Las Vegas and did some research on out self checkouts. Found that there is only one Target in our city that has one... and we have like 12 stores.

Good thing that it's on the way to my girlfriends house, so I'll be making stops periodically.

Anyone in the Cincinnati area know of a target with self-checkouts? I tried searching online but couldn't find the info.

FWIW, I’m going to chime in with my opinion and plan going forward :)

I think Target did what it needed to do to deter the masses from grabbing the low fruit on the tree. Anyone and everyone was willing to purchase Disney cards at 5% off using Target gift cards – it was easy. We’ve all seen these people come through this thread and the majority of them weren’t willing to go through the additional work needed to see the big savings at the top of the tree. Not saying this was wrong of them, but for some people an easy 5% was awesome, but they didn’t “need” to climb any further.

Then there’s those of us who are willing to put in the work and this loss of 5% obviously hurts but, at least for me, it doesn’t change much. Granted, I have a year and a half until I need to pay off my trip, so I have time on my side to make up for it. But in the big picture, it’s not a HUGE game changer. Now I will cash out my second or third Swagbucks cards for the month into PayPal and use my Target debit to get ebay cards at 5% off instead of going straight to Target GC – an extra step, yep, but minor. And I’m going to look a little more seriously about getting my DH an ebay account – which is something I was considering anyway.

So, that's my 2 cents. I'm not panicking, at least not yet anyway, and I'm willing to change my course and ride out the "storm"!

I see that PPDG sells BB gift cards so this may be my new
Method of obtaining some semblance of a discount. Unfortunately, my BB does not sell eBay gift cards so there will be no churning involved, but at least I can earn eBucks (up to 10%) and EBates to get a "discount". Plus, I can cash out my SB and Perk into eBay (instead of Target) and use those to get a "discount" on the BB cards.

Well, after looking into this a little more, I see that it won't reliably work. According to BB's website, you CANNOT use a gift card to buy a gift card. I'm glad I checked because I assumed that since a reward certificate would work, that a gift card would work too...wrong.

So, it may be back to the drawing board...

What will the plan be going forward if Target does eliminate the ability to buy a gift card with a gift card? I'm guessing that the discounted cards at Sam's Club will be my only option to get a discount. I can cash out Perk/SB for Wal-Mart gift cards and increase the discount, I suppose.

I just googled "target self check out (city name)" Then a whole bunch of Yelp reviews popped up. One of them had a review of someone saying that this one was great because they had them. Might want to sift through some of the reviews to see if you can find anything.

That is so weird. I was doing this so often about 6 months ago before I knew this thread existed and didn't know about their official policy. It worked so well that I wouldn't have thought that they would have this on their policies. I have been to about 4 different Best Buys in my city, and neither denied me. Bought gas cards, Disney and food GC no problem with the gift cards. I agree though, that if this is a policy on their website, it may not be as reliable as it should be for everybody here.

I wasn't panicking until the policy change (or policy enforcement rather) became 100% real. I know that with eBay Bucks there's an EASY way to make money there - but my fear now, is the ease of Target to take away the gift card for gift card redemption. Then what? Be tied up with thousands in Target and or eBay gift cards? I'm comfortable having $300 in eBay gift cards (I cashed out $600 in Target for Disney yesterday) because $300 won't take me very long (perhaps 2 months?) to spend at Target, but it isn't ideal to have much more than that.

I was hoping to maximize mine and my husband's eBay Bucks accounts every quarter but with less money in the pot it will make it much more difficult. Granted, the only thing I'm saving for right now is spending money for our cruise in August and after cashing out I'm halfway there. But I was hoping to take a cruise in January as well and that is looking a lot less likely. The Lord above just telling me we didn't need that extra cruise I suppose!

How long ago did you do this? I live in Pflugerville area and both HEBs I have tried don't even have that coupon. I'm going to have to check out the one at 1431 like you mentioned. Thanks for the HEB information.

I went last night to the Round Rock (1431/I-35) H-E-B and got 4 more. (Tuesday 4/26).

Overall, I got 10 $25 Disney Gift Cards and was given 5 $20 HEB gift cards that I used to buy my groceries, essentially making it $250 of Disney cash for $150 spent (40% off Disney).

I'm north of Cincinnati and don't know of any self-checkouts. I mainly shop at Voice of America, Bridgewater (although it's been a long time since I've been to that store), and Dayton South (closest to work). If you find any, I'd be interested in knowing which locations have it, too.

Man this thread moves quickly. 46 pages in a week! This has got to be one of, if not the the most popular thread on DISboards.

I'm of the opinion that if target were taking away the GC to GC option, they would have done it all at once with the RC discount. Maybe a year from now that might change, but for now I'm comfortable- which probably means the rug will get yanked tomorrow!!

I would not buy tons of BB gc's but maybe try your store with a smaller amount. I have bought GC's with GC's at BB before. No problem. It does seem to be YMMV by store.

What i did today was buy gift cards off Raise for Target, then added them to the Target wallet, took them to customer service had them put onto one card then went and bought a huge stack of Disney 100.00 gift cards through regular checkout my total was a bit more then what my gift cards was so I used the redcard and got the 5%discount.

Oops forgot I then added them to the disney giftcard site and then uploaded to disney savings account where I will get the 20$ disney card for every 1000 figure win win plus cash back from shopathome:)

I'm just pointing this out for discussion purposes, but unfortunately, many retailers classify gift cards, such as Disney/eBay, as "prepaid cards". Based on the definition, Disney/eBay gift cards could easily fit the mold. Also, when looking at the Target T&C above, it seems ambiguous and could be argued that the way it is written with "and prepaid cards" means gift cards are in fact excluded, versus reading "Amex and Visa prepaid cards". This is not new wording however, I'm just pointing out that it could be argued either way and potentially enforced by Target if they choose to do so.

This is the logic that was used the one time we were refused by a CSR. She used the term prepaid cards and would not even hear the whole prepaid card/entertainment card argument.

The 5% discount should only have applied to what you actually paid on your red card.
