Disney Gift Card Deals

FWIW, I’m going to chime in with my opinion and plan going forward :)

I think Target did what it needed to do to deter the masses from grabbing the low fruit on the tree. Anyone and everyone was willing to purchase Disney cards at 5% off using Target gift cards – it was easy. We’ve all seen these people come through this thread and the majority of them weren’t willing to go through the additional work needed to see the big savings at the top of the tree. Not saying this was wrong of them, but for some people an easy 5% was awesome, but they didn’t “need” to climb any further.

Then there’s those of us who are willing to put in the work and this loss of 5% obviously hurts but, at least for me, it doesn’t change much. Granted, I have a year and a half until I need to pay off my trip, so I have time on my side to make up for it. But in the big picture, it’s not a HUGE game changer. Now I will cash out my second or third Swagbucks cards for the month into PayPal and use my Target debit to get ebay cards at 5% off instead of going straight to Target GC – an extra step, yep, but minor. And I’m going to look a little more seriously about getting my DH an ebay account – which is something I was considering anyway.

So, that's my 2 cents. I'm not panicking, at least not yet anyway, and I'm willing to change my course and ride out the "storm"!
I like your plan. :) I don't do Swagbucks but most of the rewards programs I do have eBay GC's as a cash out option so I will just cash out directly to eBay, then purchase Target cards.

I also plan to try adding Best Buy into the mix, since I have $10 in BB Rewards to spend. I have about $28 left in eBay GC so I may just buy a $25 BB card with that to try it out instead of waiting for a PPDG discount. Then I'll use $10 Rewards + $25 BB GC + $15 OOP to purchase a $50 eBay GC from BB. That way I'll see what portion of the purchase I earn more BB Rewards on.

The other thing I need to do is try purchasing a Disney GC with a GC at my local Target(s). Neither of them have self checkout unfortunately so I'll be at the mercy of employee discretion. Hopefully if I buy other items along with the GC they won't deny it. I shop at Target a lot any way so it won't be hard to just pick up a GC while I'm buying other items. And if some of my churning money gets used on things I would've bought anyway, oh well. Its money I don't have to spend that I can shift over to the vacation fund in my budget.

I've spent $391 OOP and have $750 in Target GCs, $28 in eBay, plus all the cash back rebates I've gotten from my churning purchases, so I'm not quite ready to give up yet.

As promised, here is the update on the Amex credit.

Thank you for the heads up on this! I haven't been using my AMEX as much lately and have forgotten to check for new offers. I also have $100 in cash back rewards available on my Blue Cash so I can essentially get a free $100 GC.

I emailed GCM asking them to consider carrying Disney & Walmart gc. This was their response:

Thank you for your inquiry. You would need to reach out to eBay directly regarding the cards that are sold on their website. Gift Card Mall processes the orders directly for eBay.

...thinking about cashing out my Target GC to Disney.

I just thought about it, but our stores only have a certain amount of Disney GC available in store even if you have them in your specific city. Even if Target keeps on continuing GC>GC transactions, the stock is going to be depleted to nothing, and who knows if and when they are going to be restocking them since we can't buy them online now which is a big problem.

Targets only have $100 Disney gift cards and we're paying for our trip by the thousands. Stock is going to go quick in store with Target depending on how many people in your city churn. From what I saw in my local Best Buy, it seems like they have even less stock. Not nearly enough to pay for a whole Disney vacation.

To me, this is a bigger problem than the 5% discount going away.

Edit: I have a ton of Targets in my area, but I know a lot of you don't. I might have more availability, but I don't see this lasting forever. We don't know how often Target restocks the Disney gift cards in store. I know a lot of you have a lot stashed away in Target GC.

I only spent 20.00 on redcard, got 36.00 in savings:)

That is so bizarre I shop at target all the time and earn those "free with purchase" $5 cards a lot. When ever I have use those with my red card (for normal purchases in the past) I have never gotten the 5% off the amount paid for by a target gift card only what I actually charged to my red card. Did you put your card in to pay and then only put part of it on the red card or something? Because usually they take the gift cards off which lowers the total then you insert your red card and 5% comes off that total.
Would be awesome if that glitch stuck :)

This is the logic that was used the one time we were refused by a CSR. She used the term prepaid cards and would not even hear the whole prepaid card/entertainment card argument.

I have found that instructing a Target manager on the correct implementation of their policies will not end in success, just with a manager becoming flustered and more insistent of being the one to decide. :)

So you spent $720, got $36 in redcard savings and paid with $664 in gift cards and $20 on your red card?

That sounds like a glitch. That's never happened from what I've read.

Did you only buy Disney GCs in this transaction, or other items also? Was that your "savings" printed on your receipt? I ask because I'm an avid couponer at Target and the savings amount printed on your receipt is not usually the correct amount. That figure includes any items from your transaction that were on sale or that you may have a cartwheel offer on. I've never had the 5% redcard savings apply to anything besides the amount I'm actually charging to my redcard when I'm shopping in store. I coupon at Target pretty much weekly and use the GCs I've received from in store promotion to pay a large portion of my total frequently. If this transaction was only for Disney GCs I'm very surprised the discount applied to the entire purchase.

I decided to take inventory of my Target and eBay GCs and did a little risk assesment based on what I've been reading. As a result, I took 1/3 of my Target GCs and headed to my local Target to buy some Disney GCs.

They didn't have a single $100 GC in the entire store (and I checked every GC rack that I know to exist in that store!) One rack had a single $50 GC and the one in electronics had another 5 $50 GCs. Fortunately, there were more in the checkout aisles but not a lot considering that they tend to have a lot for summer vacationers. I don't want to start a panic, but I believe that @JKalai may be on to something. I think that there's going to be a rush on stores to cash out to Disney GCs because they aren't available online anymore.

I was able to get the amount that I came for and checked out at the self check out. Paying the entire amount with Target GCs was not a problem.

I don't see any indication that Target is going to disallow GC for GC purchases...at least not yet. The terms for their gift cards haven't changed like wording for the REDcard did. I would think if they were going to change this policy it would be much more complicated because people already have how many millions of dollars of gift cards under the current terms which state: This GiftCard can be redeemed for merchandise or services (other than American Express® and Visa® gift cards and prepaid cards) at Target stores in the U.S. or Target.com, and cannot be redeemed for cash or credit except where required by law. No value until purchased. For balance information, visit www.Target.com/GiftCards or call 1-800-544-2943. To replace the remaining value on a lost, stolen or damaged card with the original purchase receipt, call 1-800-544-2943. See GiftCard terms and conditions by searching for "GiftCard Help" above.
The terms on the Target GiftCard I received yesterday from GCM have slightly different wording. Now it states: "This gift card can be redeemed for merchandise or services (other than American Express, MasterCard and Visa prepaid cards) at Target stores in the U.S. or Target.com, and cannot be redeemed for cash or credit except where required by law."

Those terms, in my opinion, very clearly and explicitly allow the purchase of gift cards. I understand there is some potential for ambiguity with the old terms quoted by the PP above (although there shouldn't be), but the new ones should prevent that. (But should =/= will).

Just purchased $400 worth of Ebay e-gift cards and a bottle of glue ($1.03) through Target. I went through the Ebates site first. It has already credited on Ebates, but only for $380.98. Almost like the 5% came off somewhere. So weird. I wonder if they are manually adjusting the 5% discount after the fact? The Target confirmation clearly shows a total of $401.06. I guess I'll have to wait a few days for the whole transaction to clear to find out.

This is exactly what happened to my aunt a couple of days ago...no 5% discount but her ebates reflected a total of 5% off. She also did $400 and a small $4 item. But I made an ebay GC purchase last night and also went through ebates. My credit did not do that. It was on the entire, nondiscounted total.

Well, at least they are open to the idea. I wonder if eBay will be?

Well, i hope we do not get a run on Disney cards now. At my store on Monday, there were PLENTY of $100's and $50's...electronics, their couple of GC end caps, at each register...

Did this Sunday morning in anticipation of exactly this. Luckily, I was able to complete my transaction before being told by the manager that the cashier should not have allowed my transaction and that my location would no longer accept GC for purchase of other GC.

For anyone that purchased from eBay yesterday using the eBates 5% cash back offer that was initially available for a limited window in the morning, I was credited today at the 5% rate for my $500 GC purchase made with an eBay GC via PayPal. You should look for yours as well.

I would not buy tons of BB gc's but maybe try your store with a smaller amount. I have bought GC's with GC's at BB before. No problem. It does seem to be YMMV by store.

I just bought an eBay card with a BB gift card a couple hours ago. No problem at all. I will note that they were very low on eBay cards. The employee I was chatting with didn't even know they carried them. Going forward, this is the issue I see trying to churn eBay to BB . . . low or no eBay card inventory.

Mine hasn't credited anything yet, but that gives me hope!
