Disney Gift Card Deals

Ugh!

If its a policy change, I wonder why you can still buy Ebay gift cards with Target gift cards ONLINE?? Seems like that would be an easy coding change if they wanted to block it. Weird.

Yeah, it would have been easy to fix any of this stuff over the years, yet they didn't. I'm gonna keep trying to cycle for EBucks online, just smaller amounts.

I haven't done the Best Buy route in a while because, as I've written before in this thread, the BBs near me seem to have stopped stocking eBay GCs. But with the Target development, I've been looking at different options and I noticed that BBs near me are stocking $50 eBay GCs AND THEY'RE AVAILABLE FOR STORE PICKUP OR FREE STANDARD SHIPPING (still no $25s).

In my experience, BB's website and POS system does allow GC-for-GC purchases but you might encounter an employee or manager who won't allow it. So YMMV. The other downside for me has been that your local BB store may not carry eBay GCs or have them in stock, so your funds are stuck in the form of a BB GC until you can find availability for eBay GCs (BB does sell Disney, Starbucks, and a lot of other GCs).

The upside to shopping with BB is that you can go to BB .com, search for eBay GCs, and it'll pull up $25s and $50s that you can find in your nearby stores (by typing in your zip code), add to your cart for in store pickup, or have them ship it to you -- and never worry about availability or dealing with employees who give you trouble when you try to pay for a GC with a GC. Another benefit is, similar to the Gamestop route, PayPal Digital Gifts often runs sales on BB GCs (I'd say more often than GCM runs sales on Target GCs). When you buy from PPDG, you'll get the BB GC code emailed to you in about an hour, which you can then turn around and use on BB .com to buy eBay GCs for same day pickup for a fast flip back to eBay.

This sounds like a good plan. Now to go figure out what the PPDG restrictions are . . .

I had that happen about a week ago. I had to go call paypal a few times. It was happening on my account and my DD25's account. They overrode some things and got one order through but next time I tried it wouldn't go. They had me clear everything out but that didn't work either. They weren't linked to my ebay account, or hers, either. My account only went as far as yours does, but hers would go to the paypal screen and let me choose her ebucks and the next screen would give me the transaction refused. Anyway, the couldn't get it to work on DD's account either, took 3 different calls. Finally, the last person was a supervisor and said he'd call me back the next evening, we needed twenty four hours. Anyway, he finally got my account and her account cleared up. I don't know why it was doing it, first mine had a fraud activity notice but hers did not, but we were trying to buy gc's for GS from PPDG, and I think that had something to do with it. I'd call and get it cleared up before a promo if you can, even it requires extra calls!
Mine has the security alert or some nonsense on it. It's not working no matter which PayPal I link or leave blank - won't go past the cart. I've got our other account that's been used like once and a PayPal that's used occasionally in case a promo pops up but I will definitely call. I was hoping to maximize the ebucks this quarter as our 13 day trip is on 9/30 and of course neither my Cont or BC reservations were available for the discounts so we are going rack rate this fall.... That makes me ill just a little but DH vetoed changing. So gotta make that difference up!

Just for a data point this also happened while buying ONE PPDG $20 Ghirardelli card. no issues on the multiples times I've use the account on any other site or GCM on eBay purchases. I'm starting to think PPDG might be a culprit here.

You can as of this morning -- I did it. That's why I remain mildly confident that everything will still work other than getting the RedCard discount.

I was told by a store manager last November that Target "changed their policy" and was no longer allowing you to buy gift cards with gift cards. Obviously, that wasn't true. So I would take what one manager says with a grain of salt until there are more occurrences and data points to compare. Or if there is an official policy listed on the Target website or in store.

But if your risk tolerance is that you don't want to be stuck with any Target gift cards, it seems like a solid plan to cash out now, while you know it is still possible. Who knows what Target will actually do. But one policy change could be indicative of further changes. I am willing to ride it out, but I have a pretty long time horizon.

I have about $1250 in mobile Target gift cards. Our Target has the self check outs, but I'm guessing they don't take the mobile gift cards to well? Can I ask customer service to switch them to an actual gift card? Has anyone tried that in order to use the self check out?

I have my Target GCs loaded into my iPhone Target App. And during self checkout, I select GC Payment, and used the scanner gun to scan my iPhone. Some odd reason the scanner on the table (where you scan your items), doesn't like my iPhone 6+ screen. I'm able to scan, swipe to the next card, and repeat.

Same. My Target.com account was already restricted/"Banned"/Auto-Cancelled earlier this month, so I already was lucked out of the 5% GC Purchase with Target GC. So I have been doing eBay-> GCM Target GC -> Physical Store eBay $200.00 GC. I was playing a little with GS PPDG, but I am about 50% successful. Maybe BB PPDG might be something new for me because it's quicker to flip and also without shipping cost. I think I will try it tomorrow and see if I can also get BB Rewards Certificate Points if I order online to pick up after work.

I just converted some Target GCs to eBay GCs not more than 5 minutes ago via Target .com. No problem doing it. But I noticed during checkout that when I applied my REDCard to get a discount on the other items in my cart, it now says "5% discount does not apply to gift cards". I don't recall seeing that on previous purchases. So, once again, I think that the 5% online discount for GCs is not going to come back and this is just more evidence of that.

Well, darn. I've been offline for the last few days and come back to no more 5% off from Target online. :( As long as you can still buy GC's with GC's I will keep going, since I will still see a good savings from eBay Bucks bonuses and earning GC's from rewards programs that I add to my churning pool. I'm waiting on my last order from GCM, but when it arrives I will probably buy a $25 or $50 Disney GC in store and pay with a GC, just to see how that goes at my local Target. Hopefully I won't have a problem.

I may also try Best Buy to see how that goes. I checked the website and they have $50 eBay GCs available with free shipping, and $50 Disney GCs for in store pick up. I also have $10 in BB Rewards, $5 of which expires on May 31st. Does anyone know if you earn BB Rewards when you redeem a Rewards Certificate? Or do you only earn Rewards on the paid portion of your order?

Too funny though I went to Target to convert my gc's to eBay in store and ran into a bunch of problems. First, I could only find $25's. A worker scanned the $200's for me and said there should be some in the back. I go there, out as well. I find another, helpful guy who goes in the back but all he could find were $50's. They were about to close and he asked how I was going to pay. I said gc and he said I'd have to go up front because electronic processing on his register was most likely shut down. I get up front, and they said there was a limit of 3 I could buy. Then, of course, "you can't buy a gc with a gc." She actually asked and the manager said "oh no you can't do that, that's like buying credit with credit." With a completely dumb-founded (albeit sarcastic) look and tone of voice I say "so I can't use my credit card either?" Her: "Oh no you can use a credit card, but you've never been able to buy a gc with a gc."

I just chuckled, walked out, came home, ordered them online, paid with gc's, and they were already delivered. Long story short, definitely YMMV in store.

Just had to try this myself . . . I just bought a $50 BB card on eBay from PPDG. It arrived 20 minutes later. I then was able to use it to purchase a physical eBay gift card online at Best Buy - store pickup tomorrow. Super easy. Thank you, Lain!

Edited: Spoke too soon! Order was cancelled. Need to go figure out why.

For those of you going through BB and/or GS, would you shop there otherwise? I see that BB has a rewards program, does GS? I am trying to figure out what I would use rewards for at those stores, and if it would be worth my time to go that route.

One reason I am sad about the Target 5% going away online is that I won't be able to get 5% off at 4 in the morning while wearing a nightgown and fuzzy slippers any more. Seriously, going to Target for me is an event that needs to be planned. Most of my food shopping is at a supermarket that is on the way home from my office and almost all the rest of my shopping has been online since our son turned 2, when DH needed at me home a lot more. But who knows? This may work out to be better.

Has anyone written to Target about their displeasure of their new policy? I'm sure that hundreds of patrons writing to them might not do much but does it hurt? I sincerely believe that I will spend A LOT less at their store due to this new policy and I wonder if many others will too. Many who don't do all of the steps might take their business to Sam's Club for Disney or Costco for other gift cards meaning they might do a lot of their shopping there too.

Is it even worth the 5 minutes to write a letter of our displeasure?

Anyone have an opinion on this? I'm one that will spend money elsewhere instead but is there anything to be gained by complaining?

I won't bother with GS or BB because I do not shop at either (though I love BB for helping to put me through collage). I shop quite a bit at Target, and I do enough gift/GC shopping on eBay that being stuck with either is okay by me.

My opinion is its not going to help anything. They obviously did this for a reason, and that is to keep us from getting the 5% discount when using a GC (from what I can see). I'm not sure why they are OK with us still getting the 5% off regular merchandise when paying with a GC. The way they did it makes no sense, but it seems to have been done purposely and for a reason. If you do write a letter, simply mention not being able to get the 5% off online when using your REDcard. I wouldn't even mention the word gift card (I'm not saying this to you or OP specifically, just others who may be reading and wanting to write a letter :) )

I won't be joining any letter-writing campaigns. Target knew what they were doing when they removed the 5% online discount for GCs. It had to be a significant loss of money for them to get off their duffs and finally make the change to their website. A customer that costs you money is not a customer worth keeping. The churning process was costing them money.

ETA: I think it would be more effective to petition GCM to sell Disney GCs on eBay. They sell them on the gift card walls in the grocery stores and also on their online store. Why not sell them on eBay, too?

I'm sorry. I've read on SD about some GC orders paid for with GCs being canceled. I've never experienced it. I get the sense that it's kind of like how Target .com randomly reviews and cancels these kind of orders.
