Do gift cards I buy from Target online need to be activated or does the store do that when they sell them?

I set up a DVA to pay for WDW tickets. It is a nice way to consolidate those $50 cards + I wanted to be able to purchase tickets 60 days in advance so that I could book FP+. I couldn't figure out any other way to do that with all the gift cards.

A couple things to note . . . others have stated that you cannot use a travel agent and pay with your DVA. So for those that use Costco for cruises, a DVA won't work. Also, I believe you must have the DVA open for 4 months before purchasing tickets, packages, etc. in order to get the bonus gift card.

I like the DVA option for purchasing my tickets, but read the fine print. There have been lots of complaints.

Yeah. There was a lot of fine print! My trip isn't for a year and I am just buying a package straight from Disney. I just like that I can immediately add the cards to my account, both consolidating them and making sure that they are valid. The % that I am making/saving (12ish% all told) is much more than the .85% my savings account makes, so I am happy!

They should be activated at the time of purchase. However, I had issues (& read on this board others did too) that Target did not activate the card. In this case you would need to go back to the store.

I've downloaded a Disney Gift Card app and confirm they are active. If the card is not active you will get a message.

Does anyone know if the 15% cartwheel at target would apply to the disney card? There is a 15% off coupon for electronics and entertainment expires 7/14 it says excludes prepaid cards, but since the 5% works and if it still is listed as an entertainment card...hmmm

I was wondering that also. Might have to take a trip to target tomorrow.

It does not work on the gift cards. Tried it this morning.

So anyone hear of abcgiftcards.com????? They have disney store gift cards at 11% off but it says you can't use anywhere else besides the disney store. Anyone know the deal with this? Like how can it only be used in once place

I've seen these. Its just a different card - Disney Store versus generic Disney.

These are of no use unless you are getting stuff from the Disney store.

I started a Disney Vacation Account fr the sole purpose of cosolidating discounted GGs Since I do room only reservations and DVA seems slanted towards packages, i have had some concerns. I have been told that i can not reserve rooms nor pre-pay with GC's or DVA at either DLR or WDW (have trips planned to both!). I can have any deposits refunded to my credit card at check-in and replace with GC's and then pay off balances as they accrue with as many cards as I would like at front desk- we shall see in Aug.

I have only deposited enough GC that I feel confident I can use on my second trip as a way to test everything on the first trip. I did an online tip that you can use DVA online or anywhere a GC is accepted by entering your DVA account and was successful buying online tickets (there was no DVA option as form of payment, just GC). So, if a CM doesn't know what DVA is, tell tem to enter your acct number instead of GC number.

If you make the account wit gif cards how is it returned on gift cards if you close the account? I know that they want the original card for a return. It has caused people issue in the past.

As far as I know (I have not done it), they refund the amount back to the original gift card(s), so I do have all of them in a box. I use a sharpie and write directly on them what they were used for and the date.

I am a bit cautious as well. That's why I am using DLR trip as a trial. I know I can clean up any messes on my WDW trip thereafter. I will be sure to report back. :)

Lol my fear factor wouldn't let me so that. Currently looking for a Barnes and noble gift card that I put in a safe place!!

I wish I was confident in myself re this!

I do plan to report back, so maybe my experience will help others figure out if it works for them or not.

I went to go purchase a Disney gift card off of Target's website, and it says they're only available in store. I thought we would be able to get them online also?
