It appears 5% discount for Target Red Card on Disney gift card has officially ended. No explanation was provided by the Target team member other than every store is informed of the new policy. Hopefully everyone had a chance to purchase some before the new policy was in place.

When did this end? I bought 2 cards less than 24 hours ago and got 5% off!

That is what I was told at my store a couple of weeks ago. I was still able to get it online though. Just a pain in that you can only order 3 at a time

Just checked online and it still works there. I hope they don't get rid of this, it really has brought a lot of business to them. Are you sure this wasn't about the 5% pharmacy discount?

They likely lose money on gift cards with the 5% discount. There is a very small margin on them, I have heard like 3%.

I just bought (2) $50.00 Disney GC's at Target with my Redcard this afternoon and I got the 5% off. I had no trouble at all.....

I ran a gift card fundraiser for our school. For Disney gift cards, our school was able to keep 6% of the total. For Visa gift cards we could only keep 2%

I bet Target is not actually losing money. They're just not making any.

Pretty sure it's just the 5% pharmacy coupon that is no longer accepted for Disney gift cards there is also no point in asking a team member as they wouldn't now. This red card discount auto applies when the card is swiped they never notice.

Regarding the Target redcard discounts, I was able to use the 5% redcard discount, but not the 5% pharmacy reward discount tonight. Bummer! Both worked about a month ago when I bought 2 gift cards for Easter baskets. It was great when we'd get almost 10% off.

Ok let me help you. The 5% target gives via the red card is mostly made up of the swipe fee savings of around 3% that they don't have to pay visa or Amex. They increase it to 5% to drive extra sales. Also target buys the cards for about 8 to 12% less then face value. Unless target changes the red card around and will start excluding things and that will drop sales all around. They make money on the cards or it would not be sold in every check isle.

I just purchased a gift card online from Target and got the 5%. Once again, I had $45 in target gift cards so I paid $2.50 for a $50 Disney GC! I love this! My total so far is:

$200 in Disney GCs
Paid $12.30
Savings $187.70

Woohoo! Add in the $50 card I bought at BJs for $43 and we are doing great! Our trip is in July so I hope to get another $100 in GCs before we leave. I mostly plan on using them for souvenirs and food since we are DVC members with passes.
