I was actually told on this board to "put in a ticket" a few times and no one gave this or any other advice NOT to. I personally followed the advice given here, not knowing that ebates doesn't credit for purchases paid with gc's ( and they were crediting every other purchase I made with just gift cards) I'm sure I'm not the only one . If someone had explained why it wasn't a good idea to put in a ticket I certainly wouldn't have. I followed advice given here. No one corrected. Oh well.
This is why is it hard to have a "how to". People do things differently, and things change frequently. There are people on here that put in tickets and don't see a problem with it, or haven't had any problems. That is why you got that advice. It is important to read the FAQ and terms of service for the portals you use. Most say you can't get cash back if you pay with giftcards, but most portals still give it to you. You will see ebates advertise 10% cash back but if you look into it there is a very small amount of things that get that high amount. eBay for instance they advertise 5% but on giftcards it is only 1%. I got super excited about 10% Expedia but for hotels it is like 1.5% or something like that. At Target apple products, grocery items, toiletries and baby items (diapers and wipes) are ineligible for cash back. This board is helpful, but there is some outside research that should be put in as well.
ETA: it will also help you know how long it should take to get credit. Most ask that you wait 30 days for them to credit, then if they haven't and you should be getting cash back submit a ticket. Swagbucks for instance usually will shut you right down and respond with please wait x amount of time and then resubmit a ticket.
