Here's a warning for everyone. Swagbucks just deactivated my account.

I went to redeem a couple of gift cards a few days ago and I got an email reply requesting that I email them for approval on the gift cards. So I sent them an email and today I got a reply requesting a shipping email and invoice confirmation for some purchases I made on a specific date.

I'm not even sure what they meant by shipping email since it was a physical purchase of a gift card but I told them the email that is associated with my account. And luckily I have all my receipts from these purchases so I scanned them and sent them off.

But I tried to log in to my account just now and I can't. So now I have gift cards worth about $75 that are pending that they seem to be holding for approval and I also have about 5000 SB points that are gone.

We'll see how this plays out but I'm not very hopeful

Yikes? How long have you used swagbucks? And were they asking for Best Buy invoices?

Tacking on to @havaneselover 's q's, how hard and frequently did you hit the BB deal?
 

My account was about 8 years old but I hadn't used it in the past 7 and a 1/2 probably. I was hitting it pretty hard I was doing four transactions a visit about 3 or 4 days a week for the past 3 weeks.

I'm not really sure what they were asking for. Invoice confirmation and shipping email are the specific words that they used. I did the best I could so we'll see.

Interesting. You seem to be in some psuedo-shutdown? Hope it resolves in your favor. I don't recall hearing of anybody ever getting SB accounts re-instated.

That's so weird... I take it you've already reached out to them asking why the account was deactivated. I hope you get an answer soon though and your account comes back. That really stinks.
 
I asked about the account being deactivated when I replied with the pictures of the receipts. I'll keep you all posted.
 
Official word from Best Buy, it only took them a week to reply to me. I had posted in their forums last week.

We all know this is all BS, it has nothing to do with fraud or money laundering, it was a pure money grab by Best Buy. There is just as much fraud with stolen credit cards as there is with gift cards. The fact that they made this change without notice only 3 days after they put their gift cards on sale shows they purposely wanted people to buy the gift cards and then be stuck with them.

Their other claim that many retailers are making similar changes may be true, but the other retailers did not have language saying that the gift cards could only not be used on open loop gift cards. In fact, all 3 supermarkets that I visited in the last week still have the best buy gift cards with that language on it.

Sadly, they will probably get away with it because most people are not going to waste their time fighting over a few hundred dollars.

I buy and sell, stuff on ebay and in 2017 I spent over $10,000 buying electronics and computers from Best Buy. Once I use up the $800 in gift cards I have left, I will stay away from this company. A company that behaves like this shows they can't be trusted and don't care at all about their customers.

Sadly, they will probably get away with it because most people are not going to waste their time fighting over a few hundred dollars.

Ebay pulled the same stunt and it bit them. People didn't sit by and do nothing. Finally Ebay announced they would allow the transactions to go through until a specified time frame.

YES! Looking at my receipt date 4/21/18 same thing and I did get SB points too. :-)

YES! Looking at my receipt date 4/21/18 same thing and I did get SB points too. :-)

Just make sure it's a different QR code for each transaction!

It stinks this is happening to you, hopefully it gets resolved in your favor soon! I'm a little confused, So were you redeeming earned SB and getting BB gc's or buying BB gc's from mygiftcardsplusThru SB?
I am wondering if it has anything to do with the fact that the acct is eight years old but you haven't used it in about 7 1/2 years, then suddenly pick it back up, not slowly, but suddenly you are hitting one deal. Maybe that was their red flag?
