Disney Gift Card Deals

Although it's a regional thing, I just wanted to point out that Giant Eagle is currenty offering .20 off gas/$50 spent on "restaurant" and "fashion" retailer gift cards. I happened to be in the store and looked through the list and, surprisingly, Disney gift cards were being classified under the "fashion" category, so they are included in the deal! This deal would give you the 12% discount plus whatever your credit card offers. In addition, although it was not listed on the master list, Target cards were being offered at the .20/$50 also. So, one could feasibly get the 12% deal from GE by purchasing Target cards and then get the 5% Redcard discount online at Target (if its still working and they aren't sold out) by purchasing Disney cards (boy I wish Target would start selling the $100 and $500 gift cards which would make it so much easier for everbody, even Disney). With ticket prices increasing anyday now, this could save quite a bit of money if the timing is right.
Are you sure that Target gift cards are included in 20 cent promo? Did you try to purchase them? If yes, it is an excellent deal! My nearest Giant Eagle does not sell them, it's almost an hour drive for me, but might be worth it. Also, Chase Freedom is currently offering 5% back on grocery stores.

Thanks!! I was wondering if they were including Disney in that promotion. Do you recall how long they are running it?

Is that a Visa? Is this the card that rotates the 5% promo every 3 months or so - similar to Discover? I need a new Visa card and was thinking this might be a good one. Do you like it?

Yes, it is a Visa with rotating categories every 3 month. I do like it. I mostly use it and Discover for purchases in the 5% categories and my AMEX Fidelity (2%) on everything else. As long as you pay your balance in full every month, credit cards are quite profitable.

I agree - although sometimes I wonder if I would spend less if paying with cash. It just FEELS different than sliding the credit card.

Thanks for the info. I think I will get that Chase card (I've been trying to figure out which Visa to get when a merchant doesn't take my AMEX). I'm less enamored with my Discover now that they've done away with ShopDiscover. Plus, I don't like that you have to hit a certain level of spending before the 1% cash back kicks in.

I use the Amex Blue Preferred otherwise. There is an annual fee, but you get 6% back on groceries (works when I buy gift cards at Kroger) up to $6K in yearly purchases + 3% back at stand alone gas stations. There are a few other 3% categories (Dept stores, etc). Overall a nice card for us since we spend so much at the grocery store.

We have a Fidelity account too, and I've thought about that card, but I think the Amex Blue Preferred might work better for us. Sometimes, I feel like I need a PhD in personal finance to keep all of this straight.

Thanks again!

Although the Target gift cards were not included on the "master list", two GEs in my area yesterday had a "pop-up" ad placed directly over the Target cards (as well as other retailers) saying they were .20/$50 also. If it's that far of a drive for you, I would suggest calling the store first.

They are running the "restaurant" and "fashion" card deals through 2/18. I suspect the Disney price increase will occur before that, but that is my guess. ***please note that since the Target cards were not on the master list, I would tend to believe that those could stop at any time (maybe once they get rid of a certain amount of stock?) and/or could just be store-specific deals.

Yes, exactly. My husband always gets frustrated trying to remember which card to use where. It feels that as soon as he memorized the categories, 3 months is up and the categories change.

Hi! I'm not new to disboard , just had to re-rre-register, but I'm not quite understanding how you guys are saving by purchasing Target gift cards & saving 5% with that purchase & also saving 5% by using your redcard? Wouldn't you purchase the Disney GC with your Target GC? Help me please so I can start saving also!

I recently did this for $2200 in Disney Gift cards.
It works like this, in this order:
1. Purchase a Target gift card from Raise.com (or similar site). I purchased two $1,000 Target gift cards for $925 each.
2. Add the Disney gift cards to your cart on Target (you are limited to 8 cards in a single transactions, but you can do multiple transactions).
3. Start the checkout process at Target. Make sure that you select your Red Card as your payment option, at which point the 5% discount will be applied
4. Once the discount is applied, back up and change your payment method to "Gift Card". Apply the gift card number that you got from Raise.com
5. Finish the check out

I was able to purchase $2100 worth of Disney Gift Cards for $1850, so that factors to a 12% discount - plus the Southwest points that I got for purchasing the gift cards on my SWA Visa (equal to about $25 in Southwest points). The only downside is that the gift cards come in $50 increments, and for certain transactions, you can only use a small number of gift cards. I funded a Disney Vacation Account with my gift cards, and was able to use it to purchase 3 Annual Passes, and still had $75 left over.

Not sure if anyone's posted this but there's a $5 off coupon for new users at gyft. I just ordered a $50 target GC and got $5 off, so 10% off. Will probably get DH to sign up to so I can get a second one. I did have problems at first trying to put my order thru, not sure if it was gyft or paypal.

The $5 off is good for only 24hrs, so don't sign up until you're ready to buy!

I put a little post-it note on my husband's Chase Freedom card at the beginning of each new promo so he can remember what to use it for. :D

I use a sharpie and write on the face of the cards the promo quarter and % back... at least the ones that are the same each year.

Good stuff on the Disney cards at Target. Keep a check on cardcash.com for the Target gift cards as well as sometimes they are a little less than raise or have a coupon out there.

I wish there was a way to do this for Universal Orlando gift cards also since that is where we are going (not Disney).

Anyone purchased from Cardpool? how long does it take to get your electronic gift card?

I would like to try the Target/Raise deal since I am paying for our cruise using just gift cards!
I am nervous as I am not familiar with Raise.. Assure me that it is legit :)
How long does Target usually take to send the Disney cards in the mail?

Raise is legit. Great customer service also.
It takes "about" a week to receive the Disney gift cards from Target .com.

Not sure if it's been said before or not but I get the gift cards at GE for the fuel perks when they have 20 cents off. I use my disney Visa card to get the points. I will by thru Ebates and can get a few percent back from them for buying the cards and they ship free to my home. So I get points on the Visa card, money back from Ebates and can save money on gas making sure to take an extra container or two to make sure to get the full 30 gallons allotted. I then take the cards and put them into my Disney vacation account. I have my trip date out five years and put all the cards into the account and then pay for the trip using the vacation account getting another $20 for every 1000 spent. I try and keep to the nearest 1000 and finance a very small amount less then 1000 (cause I round off the account to the nearest 1000) getting the six months at zero percent on the card. It's small amounts but all add up over time and it's not hard to do very easy. I also keep an eye out on the target cards and just do the math including fuel savings to see what's best. I know that I have saved close to 250 to 300 on just one small 5 day trip at a value resort. I also fly southwest buying gifts cards for that and make sure to sign up for the frequent flyer program even knowing I am not a real frequent flyer but points don't expire with them. Over time the points will add up and I get a free flight about every few years. Very easy to do.

I asked this on another thread days ago but it's had no activity. It has been 6 years since we have been to Disney and we are booked for this June. I have been reading about buying gift cards and some about the DVA. My question is: Can I buy as many discounted gift cards as I need to pay off my whole balance (over $3000) then add them all into a DVA to pay Disney in April. I will have over 60 cards if I do it the way I am thinking but it will save me about $150! That's $150 more to spend on other things. Is there a limit to the number of cards I can put into DVA as a whole? Is there a limit to how many I can enter at one time?

Hi everyone,

Found this site about a week ago when looking for any deals on annual passes. I noticed that the common site people use on here is Raise. I set up an alert on there for anything 7% or over. I have clicked many alert emails the second I got them and the cards won't be available, presumably because someone already got them. Is there a method to getting these other than randomly refreshing the site? Thanks.
