Disney Gift Card Deals

So MyPoints has an in-store Best Buy promotion where they'll credit you on a sliding scale depending on how much you purchase. I don't recall anything in the promotion specifically excluding gift cards, but that doesn't mean I didn't overlook something. I had one $100 Best Buy GC left (that hadn't been hacked), so I gave it a try tonight. I managed to hit the Best Buy at a time where the previous (clueless) cashiers weren't around, so I was able to convert to Disney.

I'll keep y'all posted if I get credited. If it does, it should work out to around $5 back on a $100 purchase. There is a limit of only using this once during the promotion period, but they ran a similar (identical?) promotion a couple weeks ago.

I tried it with buying ebay gift cards in July and it was rejected.

It does say on the offer page that it excludes gift cards, but i figured i would give it a shot anyway.

Does eBay ever have discounts on Hotels.com gift cards? We will be staying two nights on the road when we go to HHI next year and I'd like to save wherever I can. We don't need anything fancy at all....2 beds and a bathroom so price and proximity to the freeway are our two main concerns.

They are part of the $5 off $50 right now from PPDG. You can do separate transactions to get $5 off each $50 gift card needed, then just combine them on hotels.com website, it's really easy.

I've also bought some when they were discounted from SVM or Cardency a few months back. They were $90 for $100 GC.

6% eBucks now through 11:59 PM PT on 9/9/16. No minimum purchase.

Interestingly, I see eBay is now also offering 6% eBucks when you list and sell an item by 9/19. Of course, your final fees will still be 10% of final value and eBucks are arguably not as great as final value cap/invoice credit offer.

I contacted Ebay on Tuesday about my drained Best Buy cards. I received an auto response, but no refund as of yet. I woke up in the middle of the night thinking about this and remembered that my Southwest GC are from PPDG. I'm not sure if someone could use them other than booking a flight? I decided to check their balance but I did not have any luck on the SW site.
I get this response on every card I try:
The security check solution entered did not match. Please try again or if you continue to have difficulties, please contact a Southwest Airlines Customer Service Representative at 1-800-I-FLY-SWA (1-800-435-9792) (SW105000)

So I called Southwest and went through all my GC and each was exactly as it should be. I'm so glad those have not been drained. The SW rep who helped me was very nice but she said there is no way to store the GC on their site.
Anyone know of a way I can protect the value of these cards?

Once again, I did not receive this promotion. Maybe they want me sell something? :furious:

You could book travel now, in the amount of your GCs. Make the reservation for a fully refundable fare, not a Wanna Get Away Fare, and make it for many months from now. Hold on to those GCs. Cancel the reservation later and get a refund. I think that the refund will go back on the GCs. Repeat this as often as necessary until you're actually ready to book the flights you intended to use the GCs on. A scammer cannot drain your GCs if you have already used them to book travel.

This was just addressed on FlyerTalk.

Quote: "Just in case it's not clear, gift cards are always refunded as ticketless travel funds, linked to the original passenger's name, good for one year from the date of purchase -- regardless of the fare type. Meaning that you lose the refundability of Anytime or Business Select when you use a gift card."

Note: By no means am I saying to take what is said on FT at face value.

From past dealings through Southwest, IMO they are the best when changing dates etc. They just move the credit to other dates with no fees. Just keep moving your dates ahead.

A lot of people do this with reservations in general.

People even get away with cancellation policies at the resort I'm at with just moving the dates on a room reservation and just calling back to cancel with a full refund. A lot of the times you'll get an agent that will see the check in-check out dates and won't realize you just changed the dates. I wouldn't recommend relying on this though as it's highly YMMV depending on who you're booking with.

This isn't gc related but I handle our boy scout troop account and we go through Paypal to receive payments. I just logged onto Paypal to see that we received 2 payments but only 1 was showing in our funds. I called Paypal and they have no idea where the money went but verified it's not in our available funds. They said they had a glitch yesterday and assured me it will be fixed by Monday. Since we've been talking a lot about Paypal, I thought I'd share.

I'm afraid that the poster on FT is correct. I just found this gem on on the SW GC T&C page:
A Southwest gift card redeemed for travel is not refundable. If travel is not taken, the funds will be held as travel funds with an expiration date. If applied with any other accepted form(s) of payment, the earliest expiration date of all forms of payment applies.
However, if you are certain that you will travel within the year and that you will be spending that money on the travelers that you name in the original purchase, this is still an option to keep your GCs from being hacked. I don't see the purchase of RR points (which could be another option to preserve your GC funds) as excluded in the T&C, but I imagine that it would not be permissible.

Indeed, this is correct, as I recently (regrettably) learned. I booked some flights that I was only about 25% sure I would take since I was booking them with points (and there was an incredible sale and it was super cheap). I used the gift cards I had towards the security fees thinking that if I cancelled, the points would go back to my account (as they did) and the security fee charges would go back to the gift cards (nope) . So, now I have $30 or so in "travel funds" I need to use by July. :( It's not a huge amount of money, but I didn't realize at the time.

Did anyone get PPDG today - specifically BB - and see if the email had a bar code? That was a little bit of a pain going in there without one
