Ugh - 2 of my cards are now showing $0.00 balances.

I filed an issue with ebay. We'll see how this goes.

How did you file an issue? I've looked at their 'contact the seller' choices and it doesn't match up very well with the options.

I started a return process. Technically, I'm not returning anything, but I selected "Doesn't work/defective" as the reason for the return. There's a comment field to explain the situation in more detail.

FWIW, I don't know if this is the proper approach to take, but it's what I thought was the best of the inadequate choices they gave you. I'll let you know if/when I hear back. I'm guessing PPDG's customer support department is slammed at the moment.

Ok, I just got back from Best Buy and converted the remaining $850 of gift cards that I had onto new gift cards. The lady at the store told me they already had 2 different people come in today and try to use a gift card purchased through Paypal Digital Gifts and find out that their balance was $0.

I called Best buy corporate office regarding the 2 $100 gift cards which now have a balance of $0. They were purchased through paypal digital gift on eBay on August 3 and were used in a Best Buy store in California on 9/4/16 (2 days ago). I live in New Jersey, and was not in California 2 days ago.

So what we see is:

1) The gift cards are being used RIGHT NOW by the thieves (mine were used only 2 days ago.) If your gift card has a balance on it, go to the store and have it converted ASAP or use it up ASAP.

2) Paypal knew about the hack the last week of August (they took their store down for a week, which we now know had to be because of the hack). They chose not to tell anyone about it. Had they informed me about it when they knew, I could have used the gift card before the crooks did.

I am going to wait a day or 2 more and see if there is any response from paypal/eBay in the news, otherwise I will have to contact paypal. I don't know how that will play out, as my purchase is more than 30 days old so I can't file a complaint with eBay, and the purchase was made with eBay gift cards so I can't file a complaint with a credit card company.

I am thinking of contacting the lawyer who handled the original class action suit against paypal the first time and seeing what they have to say about this.

I have learned that 4 of my BB gift cards were drained before I could use them.
2 were used online on 9/2/16, and 2 were used at a store in NH(almost 1,000 miles away from me!) on 9/4/16.
They were purchased from PPDGC on 8/8/16 and 8/9/16.
I agree that if we had been notified, we could have used our BB cards before the thieves did.

PPDG refunded my purchase promptly & without a hassle.

The bad news...
They refunded me back to my ebay gift cards.

Fortunately, yes.

I keep (nearly) every gift card # I've used in the past year. There were a few GameStops and Best Buys I spent before I entered the info, but otherwise I have 700+ gift card numbers recorded in my spreadsheet.

PP refunds back to the original form of payment. If you paid for an item that is being refunded with eBay GCs, it'll go back to those original GCs. If you no longer have those GCs, you'll have to contact the eBay Gift Card Team and they can look up the GCs used in the transaction or issue you replacement redemption codes. Don't be surprised if they aren't very responsive; they will tell you it can take up to 2 weeks to get the GC numbers/redemption codes to you.

The eBay Gift Card Team's contact email is: DL-eBay-GiftCard-CS@ebay.com. After you receive a PP confirmation that your refund has been sent to eBay Gift Card Services (i.e., your original GCs), send the Gift Card Team an email with the eBay Item/Order number, any transaction information you have from PP, an explanation of what happened, and a request that eBay provide you with the original GC numbers or replacement redemption codes. I would suggest not wasting your time with eBay's 1-800 customer support (basically, it was a big waste of my time). When you get the GC numbers/redemption codes from eBay, those codes will be linked to your account so only you can use them.

I bet you could call different Krogers and see if they have them. I would say most in Middle TN would have them as a region.
You can't go down the street without tripping over a Kroger here. Both the ones in my neighborhood have the USO. Although I suspect a Diser has been buying the USO ones up at one of them, lol.

Just to let everyone know, it is now being reported that even the 3rd party gift card resellers are seeing a huge spike in bad gift cards bought from Payapl Digital Gifts.

I still have 2 PPDG that I bought months ago. I decided to check on them last night - One isa $25 ghiradelli gift card I got that I was planning to use on our trip in November. I checked online and it is still ok. The other is staples $100 which I had spent about $30 of already and the balance is still there. I wonder if the hack was only for more recent cards?
