I have just had my first purchase of a Disney gift card cancelled going through Target.

What is the criteria within a certain timeframe, total amount, number of transactions, gift card denominations ?

Did you pay with a gift card? That's no longer allowed.

Thanks - that is definitely upstate! I may be up in the capital region next weekend and will give the local BBYs up there a try if I don't have success soon. It'll be awhile before I'm all the way up in Plattsburgh, though. ;)
Yes, it is. I always chuckle to myself when people refer to upstate and mean Albany . I have been successful in Plattsburgh repeatedly but hadn't been in Best Buy for about a month so I was pleased that it still works there for me. I also bought more Disney gift cards at lowes with my discover IT card yesterday - should be getting 10% cash back on them at the end of my first year. We fly to WDW from Albany on SW - but rarely shop down there.

I have been so out of the loop - pretty much stopped churning completely because I hate dealing with PPDG, but I've heard musings of the whole no Target gift cards to buy Disney GC anymore... Whoa, how things have changed!

I just left my local Target (central IN) and bought $125 DGC no problem! She even scanned two $10 shopkick cards that I had as well as my physical card that held the remaining $105. I didn't know my store had $25 so I hadn't cashed out for the last $20 in SK until I saw them and didn't want to go back to customer service to consolidate again. Not sure if anyone has noticed but when I looked up DGC on target mobile it specifically said "You cannot purchase these with a Target Gift Card"

1. You only get 5% off whatever is charged to your REDcard.
2. It wouldn't have mattered if the only item you were buying was a Disney GC, the Target GC would have paid for the Disney GC just fine.

Actually, it looks like the card did NOT get 5% taken off. I reported my experience, because there were people who were having trouble buying a GC with a GC at Target. I was showing how it could be done.

Isn't that because the mobile app, like the website, used to let you apply Target GCs together with your REDcard set as default? If they don't allow this kind of payment stacking for GCs on the website, the same notice would go on the mobile app. I doubt that language applies in store, since in-store pickup for Disney GCs is not even an option.

But did you get 5% off whatever the balance your Target GCs didn't cover? I don't think the in-store POS system distinguishes the items in your "cart" like that. Your Disney GC and non-GC items are just part of the total that your GC applies to, then the REDcard applies a 5% discount and charges for the remaining balance.

Just wanted to post my experience with Target.

We are planning a trip for February 2017 and were only buying the GCs for food and souvenirs. It is our 2yr anniversary and our baby will be 14 months when we go (his first trip!). I had been going the Raise > Target route for a few days (after reading hundreds of pages), when suddenly the orders were getting cancelled. It pretty much happened over night. Bought $250 one night that went through, and the next day the orders were getting cancelled. We had bought about $450 in DGC total, and were still sitting on about $350 in Target GC (luckily bought at 8% off). I immediately stopped buying target gift cards at that point. Thanks to the people here, we were able to go into our local target on Saturday and buy 7 $50 DGC through the self checkout line and finish off our target gift cards. We did have some trouble with scanning the GC barcodes from my wife's phone, which led to having to have a clerk come over and allow it. Thought that was going to be the end of that, but she put in her code and it allowed us to use the handheld barcode scanner. We did have a few smaller items we also picked up, and as others have posted, only received the red card discount on the difference not paid for with a GC. It was good while it lasted, and I wish I had started sooner, but our trip is not until February so maybe something else will come along. We are also Sam's members and our CC (Ameriprise MasterCard) gets us 1.75% back, so that is still a good option.

Thanks to all the people here for the great information on how to save a little on a disney vacation.

Another thought I just had:

Buy $100 Visa card, which I've determined nets me $6 with this promo.

Five minutes later, use that Visa card at Kroger to buy a $100 Disney card for 200 fuel points, about $6 for me.

Net: $12. More if I can get the full 35 gallons OR if I hold onto the Visa until 4x fuel points.

Would all of that be allowed?

Yes, as others have posted, this should work. As another option:

Buy $100 Visa card for fuel points, register card and add a pin (important step in order to use as a debit card)
Use redcard to order DGC from Target for 5% off.
Pay your redcard bill in store with the Visa debit card above.

Maybe. They might be using this to stop getting the extra 5% online or it could be a precursor to disallowing GC-GC purchases altogether. I had no trouble today in store. I have seen on a FB page where some talk about this is going on and supposedly Target as a whole is halting GC-GC purchases in and out of store (at least temporarily) and if it went through (as it did for me) that it is only because that store hasn't got the memo yet. Again, that was not my experience but it may be a thing... We shall see

How much did you put on your red card and how much was the discount?

GREAT idea!!!

Soooo - just realized that we hit our $6K grocery spend on the AmEx BCP! (It didn't take long with buying GCs and prescription co-pays!!!) Darn it! :mad:DH is an authorized user, so he can't apply for another card, right?

Any suggestions for another card with rewards for groceries? (We don't fly so airline miles are not important to us.)

I'm pretty sure DH can also have an account and you can be an authorized user on his too. My husband and I have several accounts like this. In fact, I referred him on a few occasions and we bonus earned referral bonuses.

I don't know if it has been mentioned on these blogs but there is an AMEX card that offers 6% off at grocery stores. We shop at a Kroger. Which also offers 4x fuel points at various points during the year. So we pay for the whole trip but for this example say you purchased 4k in gift cards at 6% off would give you $240 in cash back on the CC plus you would then be saving a dollar a fill up for 4 fill ups. Given we have 2 SUVs that is about $18 a fill up which we have to buy any how. That's an additional $72. So a total of ~$312 or about 7.8% saving on trip cost. Plus you can also buy southwest gift card if you fly on that airline.

Amex blue cash.

I see. I don't have the receipt with me, but I had a bill of about $105 after coupons were taken off, then I gave her the Target gift card, and then my Red Card, and my 5% was about $2.55. To me, it looked like the register disregarded the Disney gc, when it was that you can only get 5% off your total after ALL coupons, cards, rebates are granted. Did I get that right?

You only get 5% off the amount you pay with your RED card. $2.55 is 5% of $51. It sounds like that's all you paid with your RED card.
