Excuse my ignorance but I don't much about gift cards. I have always used cash or a CC in the Disney parks. With that said, I am thinking of picking up some Disney gift cards from Target. Is this worth doing this or from what I have been reading is there a problem getting GC from Target. I read somewhere that some of Disney GC from target have not working properly because it was not activated. Are they worth buying as well is basically what I a trying to ask. Thanks in advance.

Yes, they are worth purchasing in a Target store. I have never had a problem with cards purchased at a store. There is an app that tracks your purchases on each card so your know the balance on the card. I number my cards with a sharpie and add them to the app accordingly. If I'm giving a card to one of my boys I can keep track of when they have spent all of there money. At the end of the trip at the airport disney store we zero out all small balances on the card. pirate:

So all I need to do is buy a few gift cards from Target. Does the cashier need to activate them for me once I purchase them, or are they already activated. Last thing I wish to do is buy them there and find out I cant use them. Thank you again for your help.

Probably referring to the Disney Gift Card app. It's available for iOS but not android. I use it on my iPod Touch now that I've switched my phone to a Samsung Galaxy. The app works well for tracking the balances and how much you spent on what day for each card. Now if they only had it for android, I would find it useful in Disney World.

The cashier activates them when you make your purchase. You'll get a receipt from the register and it will list each card with a code that indicates they have been activated.

Thank you again. Seems easy enough and a lot easier doing this then buying gift cards from the Disney Store. Considering Target is only 5 minutes from me.

This is correct and your receipt will give you a time for activation. So it may say activation in 3 hours.

This will be our first visit with our android phones. I will just track my cards on my ipad.

Good day

The "Disney Gift Cards" are egift cards, so you won't have a physical GC to use in the parks. But they can be added to a DVA or used like any Disney GC online. I just bought a $16 GC for 7% off and added it to my DVA as an experiment. It worked.

However, the majority of those Disney Gift Cards on Raise are not at a very big discount (1%-2%). If you can find them at a decent discount, then it might be worth buying them every once in a while. Since I can buy Target egift cards at 7%-off or better routinely, it makes more sense for me to buy the Target GCs and use them to purchase physical Disney GCs.

Yep, and if you have a Target RedCard, it makes little sense to buy Raise's Disney Gift Cards unless they are close to the 11.7% off you get via the Raise/Target method.

I'll go you one better...

$80 Target egift card @7.1% off, making the purchase $74.32.

Plus

$300 in Target egift cards from rewards programs (Perk, SB, Bing, Recycle Bank, MyPoints and a CC reward), which cost me nothing but my time.

minus the 5% REDCard discount =

$400 in Disney GCs for under $75 OOP! :cool1: And that $75 came from my ebates rebate from last quarter.

(Just crossing my fingers that Target activates all of them properly!)

That is "next level". :) You rock. Much respect.

Maybe this is old news, but I see that Disney GCs are available to purchase on Target's website again.

Is it worth buying them on there to get the additional 5% off from my Red card and purchased with the Target GC I bought on Black Friday for 5% off?

If they aren't activated upon arrival, will I be able to get them activated still? Has everyone had luck getting the correct amount put on the cards?

Also, these are physical Disney GCs, correct? I want to make sure I have something to actually hand to my children. Thanks!

I have been purchasing Disney gift cards at Target since the Black Friday deal. I have purchased about $1000 worth of gift cards and so far all of them have been activated. If you do have one that is not activated you do have to call to have it fixed, but it should be taken care of. (Somewhere a few pages back is a more direct number to call)

They do come as physical $50 gift cards like you would buy at the checkout stand. In order to get the extra 5%off you just buy from target.com and make sure that you have a red card listed as your default method of payment. I was a little nervous at first but it has been a great way to save extra money on our vacation.

I'm wondering if the Target 5% with giftcard deal is dead? I have my redcard debit as my default method and tried to buy disney gift cards as of 5 minutes ago. First it put a limit on me of buying 5 cards, then it kicked me out, and then put a limit on me of of buying 3 cards before it even let me order the 5 cards....then when I was ordering and paying with my Target gift cards (and my account is set up to default pay with the redcard) it did not give me the 5% discount. Has anyone else bought today? Can anyone else confirm if this deal is still alive or dead as of today?

I just gave it a try without completing the checkout process. I was able to put the maximum number of cards (8) into my cart, choose the REDCard for payment, added the "pay with a gift card" option and still got the 5% off in my cart. I'm not sure why you're experiencing a problem, but it appears to still work for me.

I bought one gift card today with no issues getting the 5% off and using a target gift card for payment.

Not sure about today but I bought some late last night without a problem.

Great! Thank you! With your positive experience I will go ahead and purchase! Even if I end up having to make a call to get them activated, the little extra savings is worth it. I like making my $ stretch as much as possible. :thumbsup2

CRAP!!! And now they're out of stock online. Sigh...

Anyone have an estimate on how long until they restock?

Can the Gift Card be used for the waiter/waitress tip. I have the DP, that is why I am asking.

Charge tips to your room and use the gift cards to pay your tab. On our last trip, we charged all our meals to our room and then I went a couple of times to the front desk to pay off the balance.
