Disney Fantasy, August 18, 2012 - Western Caribbean

Hi all - If I read it correctly - I think there were a few new comers this week and they know it is to late to join our FE list - so they are starting their own. We are sticking with our orginal list - at least that is how I took it - and I hope so as I already did all mine :)

From what I can tell, I think there will be a lot of open rooms. As one who booked OGT, I've been watching the rooms available to book (i.e. ones you can actually select in a category) to see what might get assigned.

As of this past weekend, there were only 10 oceanview rooms. That's not a lot, however, if you look at the verandah rooms, my estimate has it over 200 available.

The process is not easy, I actually created a chart with each room that is listed in each of the verandah categories and then went on DCL's site and input every single room (exept 5A and 4A as there were too many rooms to go through - maybe by this weekend I'll do those). :faint: Anyhow, DCL only lists a maximum of 8 rooms when you go in to select a category, but you can enter all the other rooms. I know that 5E only had 1 room, 5672. For 5 B, C and D, and 4 B, C, D, and E, my count was well above 160, and that was NOT with the 4A's or 5A's like I said. But those alone add a minimum of 8 each, so another 16 bringing us to around 175 +/- for sure. I would have to think there is at least 25 more rooms between those two categories. Heck, there are a good number of 4E's for this Saturday's sailing.

So, it looks like we may not be as crowded as some cruises. I'm thinking a lot of people don't travel that late in summer and I think the FL kids are back in school by the time we sail. So if we figure 200 rooms with an average of 3 per room, we could be looking at sailing light by 600 passengers. Great, the line for the AquaDuck may only be an hour long. :rotfl:

I'll try to post tonight the amount of rooms in each category that I showed available (just double checked the 5 B-D and 4E's this weekend).

I wanted to add that Hurricane Irene hit the same time last year.:scared1: They are planning on a mild hurricane season so I am hoping for the best. The Cruisers that sailed during Irene stated they could not dock at Castaway Cay. That would be a total downer! :(

Not all verandah rooms are ocean view? We are on deck 6. I know it is not the top notch deck but we only paid 7K for 5 of us. 2 of my kids are 12 so they are no longer cheap rides.

:thumbsup2

Hmmmm, I was thinking about asking at the port about upgrading to a 4B or 4A. With almost 40% of 4A's still open, maybe it won't cost an insane amount to upgrade? When I booked, a balcony was $1,000+ more than the 8C that I booked. I simply couldn't justify that much of a price difference. With almost 40% of 4A's still open, maybe it won't cost an insane amount to upgrade at port? I'll keep my fingers crossed!

Could someone walk me through the grades? I would like to upgrade too at a low cost if possible. When do they offer upgrades?

By definition, yes, all verandah rooms are ocean view. :goodvibes The ocean view rooms have one or more porthole windows. Inside rooms would have no windows/ocean views (unless you consider the televised secret porthole an "ocean view").

I've read where you may - depending on availability - be able to upgrade at the port right after you check in. Price of the upgrade depends on your current cat vs what you'd like to upgrade to. The prices aren't published beforehand - you just have to ask at the port.

Depending on how many passengers you entered while searching for open staterooms, all of these categories may or may not be open for a potential upgrade. I checked last evening for my family of 4 for currents availability and the available staterooms were much less then what is indicated in your post. I'm sure it will change many more times especially when the GTY assignments are given out. I will be thrilled though if the ship isn't sold out!

I entered it with just our party of 3, so yes, if you have 4, there may not be as many rooms available because some rooms don't have the bunk bed, and will only sleep 3.

That could be our downfall as we can fit into any room on the Fantasy and may not get an upgrade because we can fit in the Cat 9 rooms.

Duplicate response - sorry. I see Mary already answered the question regarding the "oceanview" rooms. Thanks.

My 8 year old Evan is also Pokemon fan and battles on DS - is that what you mean? Or do you mean with cards?

Noah is really into the cards right now, but has some DS games as well. I'll let him know about Evan and see if he wants to bring his DS. We'll be sure to look for you guys at the meet-up.

Stacy thats how I read it too. Im fine with them doing a second one for all the new people. .

Yes, I suggested a second SEPARATE list for those of us who missed the cut-off.

Anyone who would like to be on this second FE list, please let me know. I will keep track of the list and post it as Chris has done with the first one. :yay:

When should we call for the movie schedule? We still haven't seen brave yet.

We purposely didn't see it yet either in hopes that it is on the ship.

The other movie DW is hoping is played on the ship is "The Odd Life of Timothy Green". It is releasing to theaters on August 15, so just in time for the ship to have it.

As for calling for the schedule, you could call now, but the listings are subject to change before we sail. You'll at least get an idea of what is going to be playing with maybe one or two changes.

Someone who cruised last week posted that Brave was playing on ship. From what I've read, movies run quite a few months on the ships. I'm with you - I haven't seen Brave yet figuring that I'll see it on the ship. :thumbsup2

And JLDSMD - I haven't even heard of The Odd Life... (that I'm aware of). I'll have to look that one up. BUT .... I've also read (obsessive, yes, I know) that they'll have the premier on the ship when a movie releases during a cruise. I'm sure they'll have Odd Life playing our week too.

Maybe calling sometime during the week leading up to our cruise would give a solid list of movies showing. :)

Odd Life... does look good. I'm sure it'll be on the ship.

Anyone have a time machine or that watch from Harry Potter that lets you go back in time so that you can do two things at the same time? I think I'm gonna need that watch during our cruise!! :lmao:

Jeff,

Thank you so much for looking this up. Totally SWEET of you. Hoping for a boat that not super crowded. Looks like we might have it.

All of us who don't have an assigned stateroom yet will have to post it here when we get it. Hoping for a great room. I book a VGT. However there is only 3 of us this time so not sure what we will get. Hubby first cruise so hoping it will be nice. He a little nervous to be going and nervous about Dinning mates.

I totally understand. You want it to be a great experience for your husband so that he can relax and have a great time... and want to re-book the next cruise while on board. (That is what I'm hoping with my DH.)

Table companions can make or break the dining experience. I've read about some perfect match-ups. And I've read other stories about not so great dining experiences. And that's the part that worries me.

To take away the unnecessary stress. We decided to request a table just for our family and will follow up with that request on the first day when the opportunity for dining changes comes up on the schedule.

I would so love to sit with another family or, better yet, families that want the same fun dining experience that we do. Makes you wish you could fill out an table companion "wish list"! Wanted: Table companions with a good sense of humor, decent table manners, not obnoxious and not arrogant towards the servers. Noisy, relaxed, funny family Sunday dinner at Grandma's types please apply....
