Disney Dreams is over half-built and a DRAMATIC announcement is coming soon

ALASKA = stunning scenery

Panama Canal transit -- I can't speak for the 2,400+ other folks onboard, but we had an absolute blast during the whole 14 nights ... including the day we crossed the canal.

Speaking for 5 people on the Panama Canal trip last August, we couldn't have had more fun or a better trip (except for Hurricane Hillary). I would do it again and again and again.

I am in the process of booking Alaska now -- On Royal Carribean... How I wish it was Disney!

And, we were on the May Disney Panama Canal and can I just say it was ASWEOME! Absolutely my favorite vacation ever. I'd do it again in a heartbeat.

Which ship and sailing? :)

We also were on the Panama Canal eastbound. I loved every minute of it. It was the trip of a lifetime. I would do the Alaska trip in a heartbeat.

I think the winner is going to be RCCL Radiance - Northbound from Vancouver to Seward (Anchorage) leaving on July 13, 2007. I've chosen this for a few reasons:

1. The Radiance is the same size as the Magic
2. The Radiance has covered pool, tons of glass and is supposed to be beautiful.
3. I think the kids programs on RCCL will be good
4. I can get frequent flyer into and out of those cities on the right day.

Now, if Disney got a ship up there, I'd change in a minute. But, I don't think I'd change to the Magic or the Wonder -- they are not configured right. I'd want more glass and a ship better suited for northern climate.

As much as I love the entire Disney Cruise experience (I've been 4 times plus the 14 day Panama Canal), I do think they need to upgrade their ships. The size of the ship is perfect -- I do not want a bigger ship. But, I do what a better family pool. Why isn't the goofy pool built more like the adult pool? It is the family pool that needs the deck where parents can sit and watch the kids. It DRIVES me crazy that I can't see my kids in the Goofy pool when I'm sitting in a lounge chair!

Well, if we are going to dream/speculate/wish......Disney COULD have purchased the SS Norway and refurbished it. It's already a classic cruise ship. Starting life as the France, it was extended and until 1988, when the Soverign of the Seas was launched, the Norway was the largest cruise ship on the ocean.
Its 7 tons lighter than the Magic/Wonder, but is 70 feet longer, so it is close in size to the Magic/Wonder.
Only problem would be it's draft, 35 feet, versus 25.3 feet for the Magic/Wonder, so it would have to tender passengers into some ports.
My second and third cruises were on the Norway, my seventh, was on the Magic. Both are classy ships.
Sadly, the Norway has been renamed the Blue Lady, and in the beginning steps of being scraped, a process I hear will take 2 years.

I've seen this type post before, so this time around I went and got a good look at the Goofy pool. The only reason I can see why it would be made the way it is, is for the multi purpose of a stage also. I watched them get it ready for the tropical party and it took like 6 men to pull out the covering and set it up. Other than that reason the design isn't very functional.

I was disapointed that we missed Cabo because of Hilary but waking up with all of the big rocking and rolling was pretty fun (and we got some extra shows with Paco - "I am stareing at the man" and his friends). Manzanillo was a reasonable subsitute port and the canal crossing was awesome. We stayed out on deck ALL day to watch our progress!!

We had an awsome view during the westward repo for the canal crossing. We were in a Starboard veranda cabin on deck 5. That ment we chould stay in our room (including during DS nap) without missing anything. It also ment that we were in the shade (crossing started in the morning and is heading mosting north to south and we're on the western side of the ship). Being on deck 5 ment that when the ship was at its lowest point in the locks, we were only 10-15 ft above the ground.

We were on Deck 2 and going up meant going from inside the lock to where we could see out the window. And we could tell that the ship just fit into the locks.

There will be a press event at the MK on Oct. 4, wonder what sort of announcements will be made then?!?

Will this be a DCL press event like the one for the Med. cruises? Where did you see it?

Does Disney not get this  .....That everyone is waiting for a 3rd ship? either here or there. People have been requesting for years to have a ship on the west coast for Hawaii,Alaska, and Mexico. This ship can also go back and forth through the Panama Canal, which by the way was a great DC trip last may that we were on. I have no dought that they will be soon or already are building. The pressure is on. Too many people want this and disney as we know are out to please. I agree that the new ship would most likely be in Florida. Which would be a drag because that means that I have to fly from San Diego again to florida because of course we want to be on it. So new ship first or Hawaii or Alaska...hmmmm...tough call but think we would do the Hawaii or Alaska. Time will tell but untill than we always have the Magic and Wonder to play on... :)

Oh, they get it. They get that they have two ships that they can charge a premium for and almost never have to discount to sail relatively full. Adding another ship will increase the supply of DCL staterooms on the market, but won't significantly change the demand, which means that they may end up needing to lower their price to fill three ships - where if they instead use their money to build a new park in China, they've now got a billion more potential customers and don't hurt their WDW or Disneyland market.

They will probably get around to building it. But it will be when other investment options are not more attractive than another ship. To date, that hasn't been the case.

Right, Crisi. You know, I checked out Passporter's, Cruising for Dummies, and another book called Cruise Ship Blues. I'm sure you guys knew this already, but the cruise industry makes tons off what you spend on board and on excursions. They used to have cheap drinks like the casinsos but in the mid-90's started to prohibit passengers from bringing their own on board.

I'm just wondering if other cruise lines with a big inventory of ships will decide, in case of ressesion, to slash fares and make up the difference in the bars and casinos.

Probably just one about another park ticket price increase. Anyone who actually believes we'll hear about a larger DCL fleet then has been smoking too much marahoochi.... :dance3:

This is supposed to be to announce the winner of the "keys to the Kingdom" sweepstakes and also to announce the next year long celebration
