Yes, both island are very easy to get around with on your own. In St. Maarten there is a water taxi that will take you to downtown and there is a beach right there if you want. Not the prettiest beach but if you wanted to combine shopping downtown and beach at the same place you can do that there. Or, you could take a land taxi to Orient Beach....no charge to get on the beach and it is the same stretch of beach that DCL excursion goes to. You just need to pay for the taxi ride over (about 20 minutes).
On St. Thomas we usually go to Sapphire Beach Club. You will pay for chairs and umbrellas but it is a nice beach that has a bathroom and inground pool. There is also tons of shopping right where the cruise ship dock or you can take a land taxi to the downtown area for shopping.

hello all...
I couldn't surprise my wife with the cruise, she opened the reservation letter as soon as it came in the mail (boy was she excited)...
my wife was born in london and loved wispa candy bars. I just found out that they're now available again (after being discontinued).
Would anyone be willing to bring a few (or a case) of wispa bars? I'll pay for the candy and the trouble. PM me if you can help.
Also, i've been a bit poetic lately and started putting down some words in excitement for the cruise:
I wait eagerly for the nice bright sunny day
or whatever mother nature bring with her, come what may
Making the dream feel like its a reality while they check my passport
I'm really here, i see her, man i'm ready to leave the port
I'll get my key to the world card, and pictures for the boat
I cant wait to have my name announced by the guy in the black tux coat
Run to the pool or grab a bite to eat?
No, this will be brand new, i'll look at every detail, light on my feet
To my room i'll go where i'll get first glimpse of the virtual porthole
I was so happy to be a good boy this year and not get a lump of coal
Off into the night, we'll sail the night away
getting to see all my friends, my excitement can't be held at bay
its too good to be true, a fantasy, a dream i need to wake up from
but 22 days from now, the reality will come
I can just picture that moment, my face will beam
To see the most spectacular, Disney dream!
(work in progress)
