Disney Dream Doesn't Have Solid Whitewall Verandahs?!?

I almost hate to revive all this....but.....I received the Disney Cruise Vacation planning book from my TA. In the back, there's an artist's rendering of the new ships.

In the drawing, it looks like the balconies in the far aft are about half and half. Solid white metal on the lower part of the balcony railing, and then "regular" or plexiglass with a wood hand rail on the top. No way of knowing how far up the metal goes, OR if that's what they really did build, so we're still at the "wait and see" point. But it really does look like they DID change them so that they're different than what the Wonder and Magic had. :thumbsup2
Thanks for that info!

I've made up my opinion… lol. IT IS a solid whitewall-veranda, but the solid wall only goes up about 1-2 feet and the rest is a "regular" railing with a wood handrail :goodvibes
I'm with you. I've made up my mind the same (haha let's see if we're right!) -- and although it might mean shorties like me can't see out when sitting down... somehow it's still better than a complete wall verandah? :confused3 Idk why that's still better if I'm short and still can't see over it when sitting.... but somehow it is. :rotfl:

I've noticed, though, that when I'm sitting down on a plexiglass verandah, my eye level hits the wood rail, so then I have to lean down to look out. Unless I'm laying in a lounger...which doesn't happen unless I'm in a suite.
It's a no-win for us short folks! ;)

Uhmmmmm, Dr. M,
If you booked a 9B, you booked a porthole room, not a verandah room:rolleyes1.
Veranda rooms are category 6B, 6A, 5a,b,c,d,e, 4a,b,c,d and category 3's.
Better double check your booking.

You're right! Sorry I meant 6B. I can't wait:cool1:

Dr. M,
We can't wait either. We have 6690 (6B) booked for our May '11 and Nov'11 cruises.

Okay, so just went into the information of the room 8676 and it no longer says veranda with solid white walls, it was there yesterday????

Maybe they updated the website......the pics of the Dream at the shipyard did look like the aft cabins had at least a partial plexi railing so maybe there will not be full solid walls on the aft cabins.

We'll be on the Dream on Nov 13th-17th. We promise not to wear out the verandah.:goodvibes
I tend to get motion sick watching things go by "sideways", so I'm planning on spending time on the verandah watching things fade in the distance.

having been on two Disney Cruises...one with the kids, and one without :cool1:, and having only stayed in the rooms in "the basement"...what the heck is a whitewall veranda?...and why all the fuss over them?

I read the first and last page of this thread...no way I'm reading all 12 pages...but can someone post a photo of a dreaded whitewall veranda:scared1: that has provoked such angst among the DCL veterans?

Well...if you want to take the lazy approach here is a pic....LOL!!!

And, not everyone dreads them.....we often travel just hubby and I so we don't mind them.....some are much deeper than a regular verandah (you can see on the deck plans which ones are deeper).

But, some with kids have a valid concern as the kids can't see because they are solid...they prefer the plexiglass verandahs. Actually adults sitting down could not see the water as well.

The solid wall verandahs are all aft of the Naviagator Verandahs on the Magic and Wonder.

Hope this helps.....and Decks 1 and 2 are NOT IN THE BASEMENT!!!! LoL!!!

I'm all about Lazy...

I think I would much prefer the plexiglass for the view.

I totally agree...even the "bargain" room hallways are just as nice as the "upper crust" rooms...You never feel like you're in the low-rent district of the ship.

My wife and I actually stayed on the bottom deck...in a FANCY room with two portholes!!!...just a few rooms down from where you enter/exit the ship when docked at a port such as CC...was SO convenient...just a few steps we were either off the ship or back in our room.

We were out walking around the ship one day when we passed the Walt Disney Suite (forgive me if that's not what it was called)...housekeeping had the door open for cleaning...she let us take a peek inside...:scared1: WOW!

:thumbsup2

That solid wall doesn't look too bad... With all the fuss, I thought it might be like 4 feet tall. Compared to the height of the chair, it seems as if my 6 year old will be able to see over it. But I understand the concern for people with younger kids. Plus it would be nice to be able to see the water from inside the room (the doors to the verandah are glass, right?) Having a plexiglass railling would make for an easier view from inside one's room. I can just imagine leaving the curtains to the verandah open, and waking up in the morning to an amazing view....:cloud9::love:sigh

Well, we only have a few more days to wait now!

I just noticed something else, when comparing deck plans on the Dream, to those on the Magic and Wonder.
In the aft, on the deck plans for the M & W, it shows a blank area beyond each of those aft verandahs....the "solid white wall".
On the deck plans for the Dream, it doesn't have this blank area. It just has the verandahs. Another clue that there probably are not solid wall verandahs back there.

Then again, the same book has layouts of the staterooms, and for the Magic and Wonder, they have the one bedroom suite next to the description of the Royal Suites, and the royal suite layout next to the description of the one bedroom! I think they need some DISer's to proof that stuff before it goes to print! :rotfl:

Here is confirmation that the verandahs are not solid!!! pirate:

The photo above is a little misleading. It shows Decks 5 & 6....and yes, they have the plexiglass all the way.
The decks above those, though, have the solid white, with just a small amount of plexiglass....about half and half, which is what some of us had thought we saw.

So it looks as though we were all correct to one degree or another!

What a great view of Sorceror Mickey the Deck 5 rooms are going to have!!!:smickey::smickey::smickey:
