Disney Dream Doesn't Have Solid Whitewall Verandahs?!?

Ok... so now i see what you all are saying about the empty space. I overlooked why it was being discussed. My guess is a crew stairwell. If you look at the rear of animators pallet and parot cay there is a set of doors. That leads to a stairwell that is used kinda like a "utilidoor" it provides access to the restaurants without having to walk through the other spaces in uniform. Just a guess of course. pirate:

This is what I was saying in my last post.
I am on Deck 6 6190-6192 and there is a space next to our cabins also but it is much smaller than Deck 5. The space is seen on each deck but smaller than Deck 5 and too small to be a cabin.
I guess only time will tell, which should be soon!

I guess they learned well from Magic Kingdom's design? lol… I think their Cast Members' secret hallway is GENIUS!… I find utilidoors interesting for some reason. I think it really helps their parks with utilidoors, and future ships, run more efficiently… I like this idea :thumbsup2.

Plus, it wouldn't be such a great "secret" verandah if it were all shaded. Maybe it's a verandah only for staff in whose entrance is the hallway/"utilidoor" staircase?

I would still think it would have a cabin number.
Even the SPH cabins had cabin numbers but were listed as insides.
The "Secret Verandah" doesn't even have a cabin number to book it, no matter what category it would have been listed under.

That's what I was thinking. Let us know about it when you get back! And have a great inaugural cruise!!:thumbsup2

Thank you! Will definitely post some details after the inaugural (even though I'm now finding out it will be the 7th sailing).

I think you're confusing the "secret deck" on Deck 7 aft of the Magic & Wonder with the "secret verandah" rooms.

Thanks. I think I am just confused LOL

I was looking at the gray space on the Dream deck plans, aft, on Deck 6, 7 and 8.
Whatever it is, I'm looking forward to the cruise!!!

I don't think those spaces back there are anything. Possibly a storage closet for crew, but most likely, just a solid section. Perhaps for support.

I almost hate to revive all this....but.....I received the Disney Cruise Vacation planning book from my TA. In the back, there's an artist's rendering of the new ships.

In the drawing, it looks like the balconies in the far aft are about half and half. Solid white metal on the lower part of the balcony railing, and then "regular" or plexiglass with a wood hand rail on the top. No way of knowing how far up the metal goes, OR if that's what they really did build, so we're still at the "wait and see" point. But it really does look like they DID change them so that they're different than what the Wonder and Magic had. :thumbsup2

I've made up my opinion… lol. IT IS a solid whitewall-veranda, but the solid wall only goes up about 1-2 feet and the rest is a "regular" railing with a wood handrail :goodvibes

Thank you for posting
NEVER be afraid to rehash or post information, especially about the aft verandahs :lmao:
Thank you very much!
I guess we will know in about 10 days :woohoo:

Looking at the rendering, that sounds about right. It's too small a picture for my pea brain to guess how many feet!

lol… but from the picture below, I'm pretty sure it's not more than a few feet. :goodvibes

Oh I sooo hope there is no white wall. I just booked cat 9B, deck 7, aft verandah. Hoping to confirm in Jan '11 that there is not a tall wall. Even so, it is still going to be so awesome just to have a verandah. We have NEVER cruised before and are so excited.:cool1:

Uhmmmmm, Dr. M,
If you booked a 9B, you booked a porthole room, not a verandah room:rolleyes1.
Veranda rooms are category 6B, 6A, 5a,b,c,d,e, 4a,b,c,d and category 3's.
Better double check your booking.

Trying to get my bearings....is that Deck 5? The first one with rooms above Mickey?

Having the back of the ship built differently is going to make for some awesome pictures. I've never been in a room where I could see the characters on the back of the ship!

AWESOME! :thumbsup2 I'm in the back too, but on deck 8. So I'm not sure if I will be able to see them :sad2:

That might be a bit of a stretch! :rotfl::rotfl: Before you lean over that far to look, make sure you tell someone. Or have them hold your ankles.:lmao:

I have a copy of the newest Disney Cruise Line Vacation book...the ones they give out at the travel agencies...and there's an artist's rendering of the aft of the new ships in the back. It looks like those balconies will have some plexiglass and wood railing...at the tops, but will be solid white metal where it meets the floor. So sitting down, short people (like me!) probably still won't be able to see the water, but taller people will. With the old design, where the railings were totally solid metal, no one could see if they were sitting down.

Saw this from another thread this morning. Sounds like it answers our question.
