Disney Dream April 19, 2012 - 3 Nights

My 7 year old son and I will be on this cruise. I just booked last week. I booked an 11B GTY. When will I find out my stateroom number? What are the chances I will get something better than cat 11?

We are super excited!! This will be our 2nd DCL cruise. We did the dream last April (4 night). It is my son's spring break. I wish we could have done the 4 night this time, but I couldn't get off work.

Hi All!

We just booked this cruise as last minute get away! So excited...we have never done a Disney cruise- so we are beyond excited! Would love to join the FE group!

We have my husband, daughter- 5, son-6months, and myself, along with my parents and brother!

Has anyone done the swim with the dolphins experience? My 5 year old is interested in doing this!

Thanks! Missy

:welcome: StaciMay and dmmdd!! :boat:

StaciMay, upgrades are so unpredictable. We were upgraded last time for the first time! From a cat 10 to a 9. And it was the first time out of 5 cruises that we weren't GTY. Go figure!

I think it was because the virtual portholes became a hot item and we had teenage boys listed in our room. I preferred the real porthole. That was a treat.

I'm looking forward to our first balcony!

dmmdd- I haven't gotten off the ship at Nassau so I don't know anything about the Dolphin stuff. I would suggest going to the Disney Cruise Line Trip Report Forum and seeing if there are any thread titles with Nassau and Dolphin in them.

I used to read those trip reports all the time. Learned a ton of stuff, but kinda burned out on them.

Anyone have comments on Nassau? We oppted not to do any of the offered excursions and instead are going to venture out on our own. The straw market looks great, the pirate museum will be fun and who dosen't like Hard Rock and Senor Frogs. My only concern is that lots of people will be doing the same thing and these places will be jam packed. Comments? Plus, a friend of my husbands that has done a few of these cruises suggested that on the Naussau day you make it a date day and check the kids into the kids club. I feel terrible doing this after all the hype we have talked with the kids. Is it possible to do some family time and then go back on board, check the kids in and then my husband and I have "date" time? Not sure how far the ship will be from the downtown activities.

I agree with the date night concept. Certain people really like the Straw Market. Most don't, honestly. :sad2:Pick-pocketer's abound so they say on the boards. So get an under the shirt money wallet thing. They are also after US Passports, although not sure what good that would do anybody in this day and age of security.

More people, more people!!! Welcome to our little group!

We finally opted to do the Atlantis Beach Day excursion. DH and DB wanted to hit the casino and I really didn't care to do that but wanted to be able to hang with my DS. The Atlantis Beach was the best offer for us. DS and I (along with my parents, and DB's fiance) can hang at the beach for a few hours, the boys can do the casino, and I can head back to the ship whenever I want. I'm looking forward to some beach time with my little man.

I already have a few ideas on FE gifts. I actually made some for my family to send to them for Valentine's day as a special treat (and mainly bc I am so excited about this trip I had to start doing something for Disney!). I need to get to work on figuring out how to create an FE and then make three sets. The rest of my family has no idea yet that we're doing this, my brother already thinks I'm crazy. Just wait until they see the door magnets I had crafted (awesome DIS designers on these boards btw!)

We booked this cruise with daughter, son-in-law, two grandchildren, and single son. :dance3:

:welcome: ProfMimi! :welcome:

Are you a Professor? At a College?

That's quite a diverse crowd! Congrats on your cruise with your whole family!

:wizard:

Fyi... I was playing around with my reservation online and looked to see what other stateroom catagories were available. I was originally booked in an 11B GTY. I found a cat 9A (which wasn't origianally available when I booked online a couple of weeks ago) was available for $6 cheaper. So I upgraded to cat 9A GTY and got a $6 credit:woohoo:

Does anybody know when they will assign the GTY rooms?

Well it is official. I have decided to take my DW on this cruise for her 40th birthday. This will be our 7th cruise / 4th Disney Cruise. We have two kids - 15, 12 - but this one is just for us. We are working through the guilt of not bringing them along but I think we will be okay...:lmao:

As of now, DW thinks we are going to go on Royal Caribbean to Nassau and CocoCay leaving from Port Canaveral. My goal is for her to find out it is Disney when we get to port. So far the secret is hard to keep. The RCI cruise actually leaves a day later than ours so this will get interesting.

DD12 is helping me with the secret and is in charge of the mail to keep DW in the dark. I am trying to take care of excursions, spa, etc by talking about the RCI and trying to translate to Disney.

I know she will be sooooooo excited. I can't wait. Wish me luck!!

Lance

I spent my 40th Birthday on a Disney Cruise! A Western Disney Magic cruise as a matter of fact! It was in January and the waves were so bad we couldn't dock at either Grand Cayman or Castaway Cay. We still had a ball, but steered clear of January from then on.

Too much rockin' and I'm pretty used to boats. :boat:

I'm still fine tuning our trip. Workin' on lowering the rental car. Ugh! Have a ressie with Advantage-believe it or not-despite the bad rep they have. $162 Full with taxes is too good to pass up for the 13th-24th. However, I have a $340 backup SUV with Budget and I will probably keep trying to lower my backup with Alamo. Lastly, I will try and beat the $162 on priceline the days before we leave, since I really don't want to start the trip on a bad note with a hassle at Advantage.

Decided to stay off-site WDW after the cruise at Buena Vista Suites for Sunday and Monday night. I saw that $89 first night, $69 second night (not including 13% Florida hotel tax, of course) with full buffet breakfast.

I've always wanted to try Buena Vista Suites, having heard nothing but good things and this is a way to save money towards the end of the trip. At that point, we'll only have one Park Day and one Water Park/DisneyQuest visit left on our tickets. Maybe I should have gone to a 6 day ticket, but it was such a jump in price at Undercovertourist that I said-nah.

Maybe I can score some cheap Universal one day tickets between now and then. Who knows!

Just have to say my Disney Cruise word for the day: Balcony!

I can't tell you how excited I am to have a balcony for once! :yay:

YesI I teach students who are going to be teachers how to teach reading.

I have my masters in reading education, though I'm currently in the position of being the math facilitator for an elementary school (and have been for over 10 years) :rotfl: so much for actually using my masters education

Lance, I do indeed think you win a great husband award. Perhaps I should start hinting now at a 40th birthday cruise for myself. Or heck, I'll just book a dummy cruise on this trip and make him go on the cruise with me for my 40th bday in two years

I don't know anything about upgrading rooms, and since my whole family has three rooms next to each other, no sense in worrying about it. Though I too am excited about our balcony!!

I posted earlier- but just wanted to clear it up for FE....I am PROFMIMI's daughter- so we are in same family! We are booked in two rooms next to each other!

I am busily crafting today as I have decided to tell our DD(5) tomorrow on Valentines day that we are going on the Disney Cruise! I have found cute Minnie & Mickey's for her and our 7month old son! And, will be getting Mickey & Minnie balloons and making fake airplane tickets to put in their v-day buckets!I am also making a chain link countdown today for her to start counting down! My husband thinks it is too early to tell her as she will bug us every day about when we are going :) I am just not sure I can keep it a secret any longer.

Just had to post as I am having a hard time keeping it a secret from DD! Getting so excited!

Cute idea for your daughter! I may have to steal the chain link countdown for my 3-year-old but will probably wait until there's only one month left (though I wouldn't mind a countdown chain link in my office!).

I'm envious of being able to surprise your kids with a Disney Cruise.

I've always chattered my way thru planning a trip with my kids to the point where they stopped tuning in long ago.

One trip a couple of years ago, they were astonished that we were doing only WDW without a DCL component to our trip. And this was when we were standing on Main Street, MK! "What do you mean we're not doing a cruise?" That's how tuned out they were in regards to my Disney planning.

I guess I surprised them then!:scared1: Just not in a good way. It was a tough year and doing WDW was a stretch even....kinda like this year, but my kids really remember the WDW/DCL trips more than what they got for Christmas and Birthdays over the years. So this is one last one as a family before my oldest goes off to college. Hopefully!

As a parent of an autistic child, I just want to thank you ProfMimi (and teach819)!:worship: It took 3 or 4 different reading methods over the years to help my child. One to teach him to start reading (yes, those squiggly lines have meaning!), another to further his comprehension, and another in Middle School to teach him about tenses-past, present, future.

When he started at Boston Higashi, they were impressed with his reading skills. It remains his least motivating subject, shall we say. However, he has no problem reading the directions of a Playstation game or finding his favorite videos on Youtube!:rotfl: Yea, he'll work for that!

Yesterday's Cruise Word was Balcony, today's is: Verandah
