Disney done differently, (BOG dining updates pages 202 and 203)

:cheer2:So happy for Anakin facing his fears...it sounds like Megan is his own personal pixie dust! I am so glad you posted pictures, I thought about skipping this attraction but I am seeing that I probably shouldn't!

Way to go, Anakin...overcoming fears of the horse on the carriage ride and then again going to see One Man's Dream.

Great pics of the four of you on the carriage ride.

How wonderful for Anakin and for you that he was able to look his fear in the race and over come it. :cheer2:

I think having Megan along helped Anakin too! I know Megan is more willing to try new rides if a friend is along!

Megan certainly was his own pixie dust. He really looked up to her and wanted to do what she was doing.

If you've ever been on a Disney cruise the cm's vest will take you back to your dinner at the Animator's Palette. It's the same! I could get lost for a long time in that attraction. There is so much in there. I'd love to stand there, read everything and really soak it in. Instead, I read it in bits and pieces as nothing in there keeps Anakin's attention for long.

I am so proud of Anakin for doing so well! Such great news!!! :goodvibes

Thanks. We didn't make a big deal out of it. But it was another big accomplishment.

One day in the near future I hope we can help him overcome his fear of entering the bathroom. He won't turn on the bathroom light for fear he'll accidently turn on the fan. The sound of the fan is painful to him. At this very moment, he is hiding on the couch from the microwave timer. The anticipation of the ding at the end produces so much anxiety.

Thanks! He loved the movie. Thanks, so glad the carriage driver took pics on both of our cameras. I don't think he took a pic of all of us with the horse on Lisa's camera.

 Little by little, he's getting there.

I KNOW having Megan along helped!!

It took DS5 a very long time to get over the fear of accidentally switching on the bathroom fan. Even now he has to turn the hall light on so he can see the switches. And if DH leaves the fan on in the bathroom, DS5 won't go near it.

Is there another light nearby that he can turn on to illuminate the switch in the bathroom? Then maybe you can clearly mark the correct switch and he can practice until he feels comfortable. :goodvibes Or ... tape down the fan switch so that if someone wants to flip it, they'll have to work at it? It would still take time, but maybe he'd be more confident in himself. :confused3

Bless his little heart on worrying over the ding from the microwave.

So Glad Megan was there for JJ! I think he and Lisa would have a blast going around the world...get that treehouse built and she and I will come stay with you and visit the world a few times...:)

Every step is a huge step!

True! I need to celebrate the victories. I just get frustrated sometimes. It seems one step forward and two steps back with some of the seizures. There have been a few where we had to start back from the very beginning.

Ahh, bless his heart. Thanks for the idea about the hall light switch. It's right outside the bathroom!! That's the next habit we will have to work on!

When he was going to a psychologist, she did more harm than good. She gave him homework of trying to desensitize him by having him flush the toilet multiple times a day. All it did was stress him out more and he began to have accidents, which he hadn't done since potty training days.

But it was during that time that we discovered the light switches were just as much a problem as the toilet flushing. I drew him a diagram of the lights and fan so he'd know which light to turn on. Unfortunately, from bathroom to bathroom (we have 3) it's not the same. It was too hard to remember, and he was too anxious to think clearly at the switch when we left the diagram there.

What he is doing now, is coming to get us when he has to go to the bathroom. He will walk behind us, until WE turn on the light. Then once the light is on, he wants his privacy! It's reduced his stress and there are no accidents.

Toilet flushing is another biggie. He will not flush the toilet. He is too scared. Even if I am in the bathroom with him and I flush the toilet he will run. He has hit his head twice on the door knob because of fleeing and not being aware of his surroundings. There is a rug at the bath tub. If he stand on that with bare feet, he can handle the toilet flush. But not standing on the ceramic tile. I don't understand that. But if I am going to flush and he is still in the bathroom, I tell him to stand on the rug because I'm going to flush. I guess the feel of the rug on his bare feet distracts him enough to handle the flush?

Bathrooms at Disney can be a disaster. We carry post-it notes to keep the toilet from flushing on him. Companion bathrooms work much better since there are no neighboring toilets flushing.

For the vaccuum cleaner and the garbage disposal, we have to tell him when we are turning it on. He will go sit on the couch (his refuge) until we stop using it. Again, maybe the feel of the couch fabric on his skin distracts him?

Airplanes and helicopters send him under the kitchen table.

I'm open to any advice that will help him to tolerate these noises better! So keep it coming.

Lurkers, you too. If something has worked for you or your child, please let me know.

Thanks for the Halloween wishes! We were blessed to have them with us! He would love to have a friend to visit WDW with. But he might not like her machine at night.

That would be great if they'd build us a treehouse. Not sure we are Orlando enough for the show. Might be too far away for the Orlando area.

Anakin's hidden shoes made me smile!

I'm not sure if there is such a thing, but maybe they make light switches iwth some sort of texture or a textured paint you could paint the switches with. or maybe once the hall light was on he could see if you painted one a different color?

That's an idea too! I'll keep my eye out for something textured to place on the light switch.
