I received 5 $10 disney dollars as a bday gift and I was just going to use them as spending money in disney. I was recently told they are worth more than face value as a collectors item. does anyone know if there is any truth in this? Im just wondering if this is something that should be held onto instead of spent. TIA!!!

That is not true AFAIK. You can still buy them. Gift cards are more popular though.

i was going to say the same thing you can still get them at the parks and the ones from 2009 are not worth more then 10.00 they do not have enough age yet

I know they aren't worth much more now but I'm just wondering if they all appreciate in value? The person that had said something to me had seen some online a little older than 2009 by 3 or so years for a lot more than face value. I googled it and they came up at about $15 each one. I just didn't want to use it and have them appreciate to a few hundred in a few years lol.

Wellllll truth be told if it has any folds or even the slightest wear it only holds the face value. If it's truly mint it MIGHT be worth hanging on to but it will be a while before they're really worth a lot more.

On the other hand to hold onto these dollars is a good *value* when viewed as a souvenir. What other souvenir do you know of that is worth what you paid for it? LOL

I forget, who is on the 2009 $10 bill?

Well let me tell you my story. I had some old Disney dollars, Cinderella anniversary ones , maybe 25 th anniversary I can't remember right now... brand new sealed in a pack. So last year I took them to the Food and Wine fest and turned 5 in at a booth and put on a gift card wristlet to use there, the CM was overly friendly and I thought that was odd, I mean like really excited and annimated(hey I have been going to Disney for over 12 yrs, 2X a year for 2 or more weeks each time so I deal with CM alot) anyway a day or so later I was in the DTD store and saw something about framed Disney dollars and it got me curious and I went online and sure enough there they were on a collector site for $100 and up apiece for the $10 Cinderella anniversary Disney dollars, soooo some are worth more than face value... I was shocked...so I had just traded away over $500!!!!!!!! JFYI

Oooo, thanks for this post, OP! I have Disney dollars that I've had sitting around in a ziploc bag for probably 20 years. Wonder what they'd be worth? I'll have to dig them out and check :goodvibes

Anyone have suggestions on where to look online to figure out if they have any significant value?

I googled the one I had and sites came up that were selling them...one could have been ebay but I think the one I saw first was a collector site selling them . Oh these disney dollars were brand new unused , un touched that I received from Disney direct in the mail, actually Fex Ex as a reward connected to DVC... they were even sequencial numbered...still have 5 of them..:goodvibes

I have some from years ago framed. Back when you got a ticket for each day and they stamped on the ticket! I also have some others floating around. I would hold onto them just in case.

I have a number of them with the Pirates of the Carribean on them and some with Snow White (I think a 5.00). I have always looked at them as a special souvenir but I may have to google them to see if they are worth anything.

Well there is a collectors site that comes up when you Google them and they have some pretty steep prices. They are for mint condition, never circulated...etc.

If you check on completed auctions on eBay you'll get a more true value. Collectibles are only worth what people are willing to pay....and eBay is a great way to figure that out.

We have one from 2007, my daughter refuses to spend it LOL On eBay they are showing some went for $15.00 (this is for the $5.00 bill) but on that collectors site it shows values in excess of $100.00. So again.....kind of a wide range of 'what's it worth'.

We still have some of DD (Stitch) she loves it and we haven't spent it because it is so cute!

Hmmmm wonder what to do? These are in mint condition unsure if they are uncirculated. I checked eBay and right now they are going for about $20 Each. So that's only a few years old just wondering what they will be worth in another few years?

Where do they have them in the parks? Disney store stopped selling them a long time ago. DD would love to have some to use again. We have GC but it is just not the same.

Guest relations! We got some awesome pirate ones the last time we were there.

I am going to have to check ebay for the 2 I have. When they first came out in either 1987 or 88, I was a CM and they gave each of us a $1 & a $5 one with our paychecks and I put them away. Off to ebay I go.
