Disney discounted room only offer on UK-Expedia; ended 31 March.

DO NOT DO THIS! Yes, you will get a foreign transaction fee on top of the charge. So in effect you now get the foreign transaction fee on the new US dollar total. It's one of the great credit card scams. When purchasing things in Europe never accept the dollar offer, it's going to cost more (and yes, basically you are purchasing this in Europe)

I just want to be sure I understand what I should NOT do. Are you saying I should NOT hit submit in the UK dollar total? Or I should NOT hit submit in the US dollar total? Sorry, I'm new to this type of transaction. I'm still trying to figure out if I should get a discover card to save on the additional foreign transaction fee. As an example, if my total is 4,000 and the foreign transaction fee is 3%, that would be an additional $120 foreign trans. fee. That's not too bad considering I'd be saving almost 2,000. I'm hoping I have it all computed correctly....

Hi and Merry Christmas

For our booking earlier this year we first received a 11-digit number like this...Expedia.co.uk itinerary number: 152658*****
When we first checked our itinerary online it show "Booked" and hopefully within a few days yours should change to "Confirmed" along with a 12-digit number that can be use on MDE, ours looked like....Hotel confirmation number : 4400618*****

(edited for length)

Hope you managed to get a good price but please keep checking both Expedia web sites as some rates are better on Expedia's US web site and also against the others such as Orbitz with their current 15% promo code GIFTME as you can always cancel the Expedia UK booking if a better deal crops up which can happen around this time of year.

Just wanted to report back...

I booked a standard view king room at BCV 4/18-4/23 for 2 adults, 1 toddler. Paid 884 pounds or approx $1375 total, or about $275/night. Compared to Disney's (and Orbitz, Expedia US, etc) rate of $429/night, this is a HUGE savings of about 36%! I did have to email them to get the reservation number but all is well. Can cancel up to about 2 days before, so I will also continue to keep my eyes out for a good deal. Thanks for the tip! I was also able to get the plane tickets using miles so all in all, this trip is coming in well under budget.

I believe its best to buy in British Pounds £'s and if you don't already own a credit card with no foreign transaction fee then it would be worth opening one as soon as possible. Firstly not only will it cost you $120 but secondly, if you needed to cancel then you will pay a similar amount when credited back in British Pounds and thirdly you'll miss out on future savings if booking again on Expedia.co.uk.

Check out #3 from Lost*in*cyberspace who posted a link showing credit cards in the US which do not charge foreign transaction fees and also those that do.

And check out Expedia's terms of use under 'CURRENCY CONVERTER' and 'BANK AND CREDIT CARD FEES' its halfway down the page at http://www.expedia.co.uk/p/support/termsofuse.

If you do book on Expedia.co.uk then always check back and compare rates across all web sites just in case there's a better offer as they do promote a Best Price Guarantee at http://www.expedia.co.uk/daily/price-guarantee/default.aspx where they state..."Hotel Only Bookings: If you book and pay for a hotel room on Expedia.co.uk and later find a lower rate for your hotel room on our site or another site just let us know and we'll refund the difference to you. It's that easy"

Best of luck and Happy New Year.

Many thanks azimm85 for updating your post, also good to hear of your flight savings and if you do find a better room price then please post and before cancelling check out Expedia's Best Price Guarantee and the small print at http://www.expedia.co.uk/daily/price-guarantee/default.aspx where they state..."Hotel Only Bookings: If you book and pay for a hotel room on Expedia.co.uk and later find a lower rate for your hotel room on our site or another site just let us know and we'll refund the difference to you. Thinking about booking through Expedia UK for 2 rooms for March. We are going with a set of friends and their 2 kids, thus the need for 2 rooms. How complicated do you think it will be once we get the confirmation numbers to link our reservations to our MDE?
Will both rooms only be able to be linked to my MDE since I am booking both rooms? Or will I be able to send my friend their confirmation number and they can link it to their MDE? We will want to make FP reservations together so not sure the simplest way to do this. Last time we went to disney with them we did not stay together and had a hard time getting FP to line up.
TIA!

As for FP's check out https://disneyworld.disney.go.com/plan/my-disney-experience/family-friends/ and you'll be able to have everyone linked within family and friends and therefore make FastPass+ selections for the same time.

Hopefully you'll be able to request that both reservations are linked and to be close together.

I'm looking for dates in December. I can't even find Disney hotels. Am I doing something wrong or do they just not have them on there for that time of year yet?

As per this year the savings will possible only go up until a check out date of Wednesday 9th December 2015.

And as of today, you can book from Wednesday 25th November through to checking out on the 9th December 2015.

So as an example, all those 14-nights are priced at the same nightly rate of £180 ($280) in a standard view room at Animal Kingdom Lodge and that includes the Thanksgiving nights.

Thank you! I just made a ressie for 2 rooms. Had some trouble with my card going through and had to call my cc company twice, but it got fixed and hopefully no other issues. Was able to get CBR for $146 per night after taxes and everything which I though was pretty decent! Beat my passholder discount!

Happy New Year Fsudisney and good to read that the current Expedia rate beat your passholder rate for your March vacation, hope you managed to use a non-fee currency credit card and because Expedia has a Best Price Guarantee it would be worth comparing every now and again just in case a better deal comes along.

I did use a no-fee credit card, so all good there. Do you suggest keep comparing to Disney rates or expedia/orbitz rates? I figure disney will not get any lower than passholder rates and we do not need any packages , meal plans or tickets, just room only. Thanks for all your help! :)

Hi, I believe you will only be able to compare it against future Expedia.co.uk rates and any other web site that's quoted in British Pounds £'s.

Happy to help and have a wonderful time.

Thanksgiving is now available to book on Expedia .co.uk and two of the best percentage savings against Disney's Thanksgiving rack rate between Tuesday 24th for 4-nights checking out Saturday 28th November.

Beach Club in a standard Club room
Expedia UK: £932.12 ($1,438)
Disney USA: $3,240
Therefore a saving over rack rate of $1,802 or 55%.

Animal Kingdom Lodge in a standard room.
Expedia UK: £500.60 ($774)
Disney USA: $1,804.52
Therefore a saving over rack rate of $1,030 or 57%.

I've only just stumbled upon the following so I'm not sure if its another option but for those who shop on Hotels .com and use 'Welcome Rewards' of staying 10-nights and receiving one free then it might be worth checking out as this is a sister site of Expedia and the pricing on Hotels .com when set in GBP is currently the same as Expedia .co.uk.

There aren't many occasions when renting DVC points turns out to be more expensive than a cash booking but maybe here's two.

It's staying at Saratoga Springs Resort & Spa in a Three-Bedroom Treehouse Villa for 3-nights over Thanksgiving from Wednesday 25th through to Saturday 28th November 2015.

DVC Points required 158.
Disney's rack rate: $3,091
Expedia UK: £939.45 ($1,440)

Therefore not only saving $1,634 or 52% against rack rate but when compared to renting it works out at only $9.12 per point and unlike renting it will have daily housekeeping and a cancellation policy up until 5-days before check in.

A 2-bed at Saratoga Springs for the same 3-nights over Thanksgiving would be.....

DVC Points required 136
Disney's rack rate: $2,700
Expedia UK: £827.73 ($1,269)

Therefore saving $1,431 or 53% against rack rate and when compared to renting it works out at $9.33 per point.

We used this in May 2014 to save money on a long weekend. Will be doing it again for Oct 2015 - 2 nights at ASMu for $158. Much better than the $225 I had budgeted.

Just noticed there is a 10% code valid on dates through June 30. Looks like you'd have to book by jan 5. The code is festive10 and can be applied to the payment page where it says "apply voucher". Doesn't work for my November dates, but hopefully it helps someone!

For the people have used them in the past, do the usually have an active code to get a % off? I didn't plan on booking in January but I don't want to miss out on extra $ off.

There was one for the month of February last year. I know I used it for my October dates. I'm hoping they have that one again.

I've never used Expedia before... do you pay at the time of booking or when you check in? Thinking about doing this for our July trip. We're staying deluxe onsite and summer rates :scared1:

I'm pretty sure you have to pay upfront.

Yes, you have to pay the total balance when you book.
