Long story short, I'm looking to buy an add-on before the end of the year (I'll likely have enough cash saved by October/November). Anyhow, I purchased my BWV points through Disney directly, and based on the resales I see now, it looks like it'll be cheaper to purchase an add-on through TSS.

For those of you that have done this (purchased through Disney directly and then through TSS for an add-on), how did you manage two membership numbers/accounts? How easy/hard is this to do?

Technically, an add-on is purchased thru Disney directly and will have the same Use Year as your master contract. If you purchase a resale contract at the same resort and with the same Use Year, sometimes DVC will recognize the details and will assign the resale as a component of the master contract. If there is any variation in the way the resale purchase is titled on the deed or if they do not catch it, you will have a separate contract.

We have 4 different membership numbers with 4 different Use Years and keeping track of everything is a challenge, but can be done. I have been using a checkbook program (MSMoney) to track these accounts, but am anxious for Caskbill's DVC Point Tracker - which will allow me to easily track all accounts, banking, borrowing as well as reservations (and much, much more).

I would not hesitate to have multiple contracts - just be sure to keep an eye on banking deadlines and you'll be fine!

Enjoy! :)

Just be sure to take all costs into consideration. With resale, you will have closing costs and reimbursement of current-year dues to pay. The points you get vary from no banked, current or next UY's points to fully loaded, depending on the contract. Buying directly from Disney, you do not pay closing costs, your 2007 dues will be pro-rated from the purchase date, and you will get a full set of current UY points with your purchase. By purchasing late in the year, you will pay only a couple of months worth of dues for 2007. And if you happen to have a UY that is late in the year (Oct or Dec) and you purchase prior to the first day of your '07UY, you would get 2006 points with your purchase.

Buying directly from Disney can be close enough in price to be worthwhile, especially since you would then end up with a true add-on contract and not have to worry about passing ROFR.

I apoligize for my goof in vocabulary, and I didn't realize it until Doc and Lisa pointed it out. Anyhow, the decision I'm trying to make is an add-on from DVC directly vs. buying from TSS.

From my calculations, buying an additional contract from TSS will save me a few hundred dollars, but is the savings worth the inconvenience of keeping track of two contracts/member numbers/possible UY's?

Debi,
We have added on 5 times, once through Disney and others through resale. We have only one membership # and one master contract, with .1, .2, etc. added to the IDs. When I make ressies the points act as if they were one contract. I don't have to worry about the one transfer/year rule. The best part is that TTS took care of making sure this happened. I was too stupid to even request that it be done.
Note: We have only 1 use year, making this possible. And we have 2 different resorts, still just one membership/master contract.
Good luck. I hope to do another add-on soon as well. Have my request in at TTS.

P.S. I also love Tapestry of Dreams. Hope it comes back some day soon.

I don't think it's worth it in most cases for a few hundred dollars. You should also look at how many points you'll get, you may get more points buying direct if you get the current use year points. I'd second Doc's info that if you buy resale with the same use year and exact same registration, they will almost always put it under your current master. If any of these are different, they will not.

Thanks, everyone!

If I decide to go the TSS route for more points, do I have to do anything to ask them to add it on to my current membership number? Or does TSS automatically do that for me?

TTS (and/or DVD) automatically did it for me, but I will ask in the future just to be sure.

Thanks, everybody! :)
