Disney Dining Experience

We've had a DDP card twice now. I agree that it was much more convenient when both adults in a family could have one without paying the extra $25. In November 2006 we had the cards and DH went off to Universal for the day with my aunt and uncle. I stayed back at WDW (where I belong!) with my DS and best friend. We had breakfast at CRT and dinner at 1900 Park Fare that day since I had a card of my own.

Be aware that if you get the card it isn't valid on holidays...we've lost out on a 4th of July meal, a Christmas Eve meal, and a Christmas Day meal because of this exclusion.

DDE considers the following days "holidays" and is blacked out on those days.

New Years Eve
New Years Day
Easter
Mother's Day
4th of July
Thanksgiving Day
Christmas Eve
Christmas Day

OK, am I confused or what? In reading the details on the Passholder page on disneyworld.com, it reads as though many locations are only a 10% discount and/or at lunch only...can someone clarify?

That is the general annual passholder discount and has nothing to do with DDE. DDE is a separate program and requires a fee for membership. It's open only to AP members and Florida residents.

I knew there had to be a simple explanation...thanks!

I think you can call DDE when you get there and get your AP number, and pick up a temporary card at Epcot Guest Services.

Indeed you can.
Last time, when we purchased, I got my AP at @ 9:00 a.m., sat down on a bench, immediately called DDE, gave them the info and a c/c to charge the fee to, and they said my temp card would be ready for pick up at EPCOT guest services after 5:00 p.m. that day.

Would this work in Sept with free dining?? I planned on getting AP's and just buying 1 day ......but if I can just upgrade my Ticket in Sept and keep the free dining and get my dde card then also...I will do that. We are going back in July 2008 for DN wedding so I really wanted the dde card for then.....but if we could save 20% off on our drinks in Sept it would be great....also the PI discount is nice also

Sorry for yet another question. I hope someone can help me.

We're going down to Disney in september for free dining. We have booked the package with a 1 day base ticket per person. Once we arrive, we want to upgrade the base ticket to annual passes. We also want the DDE card (to be used on the September trip for a couple meals and alcohol, a well as on our December trip where we will NOT be using the dining plan.

I understand that you need to have an AP or at least the AP voucher to order the DDE. Due to our circumstance, we will not be able to buy AP's prior to our trip since we have to do it when we get down to Florida. What should we do? Are we out of luck for having the DDE card for our September trip, and will only be able to order it after our September trip so as to use it on our December trip only?

I hope this makes sense!! :thumbsup2

Yes, you can call DDE when you get to WDW and get your AP. But.....they are only open Monday-Friday. So, if you arrive on Sat or Sun, you are out of luck. You would have to call first thing on Monday, and then head over to Epcot Guest Services to get your temp card/letter.

Thanks so much for the info! Sounds like it will work out after all.
