HI everyone! I am just looking for some advice. Me, my husband and my son are going to Disney in 2 weeks. In the past we have always used the dining plan, however do the the fact that I just had gastric bypass surgery at the end of last year, we have elected not to purchase it this year as I don't eat a lot and my son is 10 and doesnt eat enough to justify paying adult prices. So, my question is, are there any character meals that are not buffett style?

Thanks for your help.

I didn't think that there were any, but I double checked on allearsnet.com, and there are not any.

Here's a link to their page on character dining. http://allearsnet.com/din/cb.htm

One suggestion would be to go for a character breakfast, if you really want to do a character meal. Where at least if you aren't eating, you aren't paying top premium prices to not eat, but you still get the full character experience.

I think O'hana's is on that I have been to.

Character breakfast with Lilo and Stich in Poly is served to your table on platters, eggs, potatoes, bacon and waffles along with breads, juice and coffee when we were there xmas 06. Server will bring refills of what ever you need. Characters were really fun.

'Ohana's is buffet style though in that it's a fixed price for all who dine there and it's served all you can eat.

I should correct myself if the OP was talking about ala cart, then no, I'm not sure there is a meal like that . But if your talking about table service the YES O'hana's is a sit down, I wouldn't really consider it a buffet. A buffet has much to select from, and you have to get up and down. But I think O'hana's is close to what the OP is looking for.

I just read it differently than you, which is no big deal.

When she mentioned that her son didn't eat enough to justify paying adult prices I thought she meant all fixed menu price restaurants like buffets.

Garden Grill is family style. It's all you can eat but it's not buffet and maybe lunch there might be good if you don't want breakfast.

Thanks for all the suggestions. And yes, I was hoping for something that wasn't buffet style or family style as paying the adult prices for my son and myself to eat a couple bites doenst make a lot of sense. I guess a character meal just isnt in the cards this trip for me.

Something I just heard of, and I heard of this with the Lap Band - the Dr's will sometimes give a 'note' that you can use to get a card that will allow you to pay Children's prices.

You may be able to find out more about this on the DISabilities board.

Good luck! :goodvibes:hug:

Having had the surgery 4 years ago I just learned to chalk it up to paying for the experience of personal time with the characters. If you decide to do one I would go with one of the buffet style places since they tend to have healthy selections on the buffet. For breakfast a serving of cottage cheese with some fruit and cup of hot tea makes me happy. So what if I just paid $20 for it. Everything else in WDW is expensive, why should I miss out on an experience simply because I am not eating my money's worth.

You had the surgery so you would be more healthy and be able to do more things, quit thinking of it as paying for food. When out with people who don't know I just eat small amounts and don't worry about the food waste, I am there to enjoy the company of my friends and family. Some of my friends know and so many restaurant dishes are huge that plenty times people want to share, but I don't deny myself simply because I can't finish the plate or someone doesn't want to share what I want to order.

I admire what you are doing for yourself and your family.

Thanks for the advice. I look forward to when I can eat a serving a cottage cheese and some fruit, but after 8 months I'm not there yet. I can eat about one to two bites and I'm more than done. I totally understand what you are saying and I agree with you. I dont necessarily look at it as I'm not eating my moneys worth. But I do look at it like, that neither myself or my son who just turned 10 will eat our moneys worth, so at a dinner buffet of almost $30.00 a person plus a tip, $72.00 unfortunately makes me think. I guess it's just different preferences. I'm glad to see that it has all worked out for you.

Again, thanks for all the advice and suggestions.
