Okay, so I booked a 3 night cruise in Sept. 2015 on the Dream. My son is in a wheelchair and when I booked our trip there were no wheelchair accesible rooms available. The Disney Cruise agent told me to keep trying back to see if one becomes available, also when we get to Port Canaveral at check in before we board the ship to talk to guest services to see what they can do? Has anyone ever had this problem before? I am concerned that a regular stateroom will be to small for his wheelchair to maneuver around in? Any info, or suggestions out there? Thanks!

Chec on the Cruise Forum. They might be able to help.

I have seen it reported that those rooms go fast due to the number of them. If your son does not need the wheelchair and can take a couple of steps, I would store the chair outside of the room. I have seen several of the electric chairs in the hallway charging. If he does not use that type of chair then I would bring a folding chair. It can get tight in the room, might see if they can remove the coffee table for you(but make sure it comes back).

Does he need the chair full time? Do you require an accessible bathroom? If either answer is yes -- you really will not be able to travel in a standard stateroom. Most staterooms are long and narrow. The doorway is not wide enough for most mobility devices, and even if he can get through the doorway into the stateroom, he won't get past the bed (essentially stuck in a narrow hallway by the closets and bath). Honestly, I'd contact DCL Special Services (407-566-3602) and see if they can find you an accessible stateroom. Are you able to be flexible with dates? I definitely would NOT expect to get moved into an accessible room during check-in at the port, so very unlikely to happen that way.

If he can transfer, or at least handle some mobility on his own, you might be ok in a regular stateroom.

Enjoy your cruise!

@beatboxRob I just checked the DCL reservations online, and it appears there are accessible verandah rooms available on the 3-night cruises Sept. 18th and Sept. 28th. The 4-night cruises on Sept. 7th and Sept. 14th also have accessible verandah rooms, while the 4-night on Sept. 21st has accessible oceanview available.

Hopefully one of those will work for you!
