disney cruise: points or cash

Our cruise is 2300 and some change for a family of 5 we got 2 Cat 11 rooms for a Dec cruise and that is the 3 day so we rented our points at 12.00 a point and paid for the cruise and our dues and had money left over.

Is there a cruise points calculator online you can play around with (for non-DVC members)? And if not, then where do you guys get your information? Or is that top-secret?

Just got back from a DCL trip and we sailed on points and I want to cruise again next year with the entire family - 6 people. I am sad to say that I can't - even using 2 years worth of points and using the onboard rebooking discount as well as 2 of us using the 50% discount that is being offered because or the itinerary change (didn't get to CC and came back Friday evening).

My question - who controls the point chart - DVC or DCL. I am going to write a letter but want to be sure it gets to the correct people. I don't think that an increase (same trip comparison for a 05/2004 and a 05/2005 trip) of over 50% is acceptable. Part of the problem is that the same week this year is Value Season but it goes to Regular season next year. But I am comparing 05/08/2004 to 05/07/2005 so I feel that it is a logical comparison - but 136 to 213 point increase is more than any of us should have to deal with.

Sorry if this has been answered before and sorry to vent but I am not a happy DVC owner (and we bought more points on board).

It's a developer program so the answer is both DCL and DVD. DCL sets the negotiated contract price and DVD determines how many points they'll have to use to rent out to recoup that amount. Supposedly it's a zero sum gain with DVD essentially breaking even but there's no way to know for sure other than to take their word on it. The proper way to complain would be through the MS supervisor or to the Compliance officer.

Actually if enough complain over time, they will respond. However as long as members keep using the programs at the current prices, nothing will change. I'm not suggestion a boycott, just spouting the realities. Everyone has to do what they must. I have no intention of using anything other than possible II for the top resorts during Prime time.

Going on my first Disney (or any other kind) Cruise in Nov for 4 night, taking kid and grandkids....we're in Cat 3 suites and we used points for the whole kit and kaboodle.... wooohooo!!!!!

That is great mrskti - I can feel your enthusiasum and think your trip is great. If you had asked me before we went last week and I finally laid eyes on next years rates I would have shared your joy. My problem is I can't take my family of 6 - with 2 of us using 50% less points and the rest using 10% less points, even with borrowing for a year. Not even close - it would take three years (829 points).

Maybe we will just go and stay at OKW - and visit Universal since we have never been there. OHHH - I'm sorry, that doesn't sound very nice but it is the way I feel right now.

Well heck, OKW is awesome I think. We love staying there. Our Home resorts are Boardwalk (500) and Beachclub(500) and I cant' remember how many points it took for the cruise. But since we bought a motor home and a house 30 minutes from WDW, we didn't use the points much, so we decided ...what the heck! I'm sure we'll use them sometime on resorts, but we really have fun staying at Fort Wilderness in the motor home...ya meet lots of nice people. Although I am missing the Boardwalk, I do love that place!

But i'm looking forward to the cruise and hope that Castaway Cay will still be there in Nov and that the stupid hurricanes will run their course and be gone!!!! Please!
