Disney Cruise Merchandise Question

My Dad, sisters and I are going on our first ever Disney cruise this summer (going to Alaska). We're looking forward to it, and I already know I'm going to want to commemorate the trip with some merchandise. I saw some pictures of things I'd love to get, so I was wondering if someone could tell me if the cruise line restocks location-specific merchandise (i.e. items that mention Alaska) for each new sailing? We're not going until mid-July, so I'm hoping they restock so it's not a situation of only people who are on the first few sailings can get things. Thanks for any info!

From my experience, no (or at least not everything). I really wanted the Alaska Blanket and Tervis that they advertised at the beginning of the Alaska season in 2014. But we cruised in early August and neither were available anymore (they said they hadn't seen the blanket since the second cruise) :-( They also ran out of the Mickey and Minnie Plush in their Alaska outfits. They did have a lot of other Alaska items (so I still spent plenty, LOL), just not the top ones on my list. Hopefully they have learned to stock more of the popular items by now.

Are there items on the cruise ship not available through Web site? Also, can you arrange for shipping to residence instead of bringing it home with you (at extra cost)?

Yes, there are a lot of items, especially destination specific items that are not available on line. No, you cannot ship home like from the parks. (the only exception is art work)

That's a bummer to hear. Especially since the Tervis is the top item on my list. :( I hope they've learned to stock more too. They're throwing away the chance to make more money if they don't, if you ask me.

We went mid July 2014 and were able to get the Alaska blanket and a plush. The blankets were gone by the end of the cruise.

In our experience, the closer to the end of the season you sail, the less merchandise you will have on your sailing. However, the up side of that is whatever merchandise is left ends up being discounted. On the Med in 2007, because we were the last cruise before transatlantic, the ships had all their port specific items on sale and the prices were amazing. I stocked up on all kinds of stuff for Christmas gifts and souvenirs.

I think they have gotten the hint about how popular the Tervis cups are. I was worried about getting a Halloween one last year since we didn't cruise until mid-October but there were still plenty of those. I'll keep my fingers crossed that we both get the Alaska ones (I'm getting a second chance in 2017 but still not cruising until August so hopefully it isn't a repeat, LOL). I was just looking at the 2016 ones on the blog post and they are cute!

I'm so jealous ;) The CM working in the store looked at me like I had two heads when I asked about the blanket, LOL. Luckily another one remembered them but said she hadn't seen them in a while. We did end up with two of the regular DCL blankets and we are still using those all the time.

We're not cruising until the 8/8 Alaskan cruise. Well...guess we'll just look forward to whatever might be left at that point! I really hope they still have the Alaskan Minnie Plushes though--DD12 collects plush Minnies, although if they just have a Disney Cruise Line one, she'd probably be happy with that as well.

Unfortunately it's a hit or miss with DCL merchandise especially limited edition items or popular items. I know at the end of that particular cruise itinerary (for example Alaska) DCL will offer discounts towards the end of the cruise to get rid of items. I was once on a Disney reposition cruise from Vancouver to San Diego and they had some pretty good bargains on the left over Alaskan merchandise. In any event I hope you are able to get what you want.

Make sure that you are in line when the store opens on the first day. Take a look thru the windows beforehand so you know where your merchandise is located. While on the Halloween on the High Seas cruise, one lady walked in and took the entire rack of shirts! Yup, ran over and took them all off of the rack, hangers and all. I got the 2 last hoodies and luckily, they were the sizes I needed. Going to the first opening is your best chance and if you like something pick it up, you can always put it back if you don't want it.

I did see several items at the outlets in Florida in March for last years 2015 Alaska cruise but I'll be on the 2016 so I left it there.
