For past and future DCL Brides...

What sort of things did you do for your guests on your own on the ship to make it feel special and still like a wedding? Or things that you changed about what DCL offered to make it more personal? I am talking like favors, gift bags, invitations, etc. Thanks!

My son and his fiancee are getting married on the Labor Day cruise this year. They are giving all the guests leis and little goody bags with tropical/beach theme things in them.

Can someone tell me about what time on boarding day you met with the on board coordinator and what time the legal ceremony was? We're trying to plan a Dismeet for our cruise and I don't want it to be the same time as the wedding stuff.

I don't know what time the legal ceremony is, but we met with the coordinator at 3pm, which did interfeer with our DISmeet. I would think if you are doing the wedding and have to have the real ceremony, you'd meet the coordinator probably around 2pm to go over everything before the ceremony.

there isn't much that DCL does that you can change due to the nature of their services, and hardly any of it actually has anything to do with your guests. i had personalized door magnets and welcome bags for all my guests. they LOVED the door magnets. In the welcome bags were some necessities for the cruise, like asprin packs, kleenex packs, handy wipes, clorox wipes to disinfect the rooms, first aid kits, stuff like that. DCL does provide an invitation that they will deliver to your guests for the ceremony.

I did do invitations on my own, but there was conflicting information as to whether DCL would deliver them. Past brides said they had to deliver them theirselves. my coordinator told me I would have to do them myself. but onboard my coordinator delivered them, however, i only had 5 invites to deliver so that may have had something to do with it.

Jen...I read your PJ and it has been very very very helpful as to what to expect. I don't know how many will be attending our vow renewal yet,but thinking I will be doing welcome bags with a few things in them. Were yours delivered to your guests by DCL staff,or did you have to deliver them yourself? If you delivered, when did you do it?

Does anyone know if the temporary design cake can be done without the white flowers?
Has anyone done flowers as cake topper instead of characters? If so,would you mind posting a picture?
Thanks

Awe, thanks!! I personally handed the welcome bags out while we were waiting in the terminal. that way everyone had the sanitizing wipes when they got to their cabin, and the kids had their bags of stuff to do while we waited to board.

I requested to have NO WHITE FLOWERS on my cake, and the on-board coordinator did have that request, so it is possible. I provided my own floral topper. DCL will no longer offer a fresh floral topper (bugs in the flowers was the response i got :confused3) and I don't think a silk topper is available. You can bring your own topper, you'll just have to figure out how to get it down there if it's fresh flowers.

I have a question regarding head count. I am trying to go for the lounge and keep it to the 38 guests. Do children count as head count? I have 11 and its bringing me over by two.

I have another question. I can't find on youtube a single video on the ceremony in the lounge? If anyone can find me let me know. I would like to see it.

Wendy,

I have a video of our ceremony, but the quality was really poor. A friend shot it with my camera (not realizing she was doing video at times) and it was 'sideways'. Another friend 'turned' it for me, but the sound was so low, that you cannot hear what is being said. I am at work, but will look around when I get a break to see if I have it online anywhere. If not, I'll try to upload it, just not flattering of me, so I didn't post for people to see, but it gives you an idea.

As far as the Cake for the Cruise Wedding,,,DD asked for I believe it was the Contemporary Cake the really plain one NO FLOWERS just the little dots. Well the first thing she saw when we got to the Lounge for the Cake Cutting were WHITE FLOWERS on the CAKE!! She was upset because several things had been done wrong and this was just another one....yes they had all the paperwork and everything just check and double check with them. But as I have been reading there is once again a NEW Coordinator and hopefully better communication between the land and ship.

Thanks for the clarifications about the cake and welcome bags. For the CC ceremony... Is there another spot they use besides the one I keep seeing in everyone's pics with the families swimming/enjoying themselves in the background?

We're so excited we just booked our VR on the Disney Dream in February! What have you done (or were allowed to do) to personalize your ceremony on board? It seems that you are very limited from the documents I received from the wedding planner. Do they have a vow renewal script or are you supposed to write your own ceremony?

I went rounds with our planner about getting my ceremony read. She said various reasons that were totally stupid and basically made me realize that she just didn't want to ask the Captain to read something else. Finally I told her that if he didn't read the ceremony the way I wanted it read, i'd find the nearest bar waiter and ask him to read it. :rotfl: funny now, but i wasn't going to have a generic cookie cutter WEDDING ceremony read for our 10th anniversary vow renewal. This is a special PERSONAL day and your ceremony should be able to reflect that. We found out i think maybe 2 weeks before we sailed that "an officer" would read our ceremony as we wanted it to be read, and were told once we got on board that it would infact be the Captain.

As for the other ceremony location on CC, the only other spot there used to be was Heads Up Bar/Pier area. I don't know with the construction going on if that is still available, or if there are more options now.

I am trying to figure out what music to play during the ceremony on CC and reception at PALO. :woohoo:

I have a few questions. Do they have a live pianist at the ceremony on CC? Just wondering because I have never seen a piano/keyboard on CC. Never looked though I guess.

Also wanted to get some input from past brides as to what songs you played during the ceremony and reception?
Will they play non-disney instrumental music if you provide the sheet music?
Or do you have to make a CD with the non-disney songs?

Thanks! :flower3:

There is a live pianist and he/she can play any of the songs that are listed in the packet. He was wonderful. He overheard me say that the Little Mermaid was my favorite movie, and he started to play Kiss the Girl....If there is something more specific it would be best to bring a CD...we brought our dance music...Clint Black's Something That We Do....to dance to. Other than that we had him play all Disney songs: of course.
At Palo, there is a pianist there....I would imagine they would play a few requests if you asked....but he is not there just for you.

Have fun with it....it really was a great time and I found it to be relatively stressfree.

If you get married on Castaway Cay they have a keyboard. They will play Disney Music and other music I think if you get the sheet music.

The same key board player comes to Palo with you for your Cake "reception". Cheryl if you have a CC wedding you are the only people in Palo. He payed our CD for our dances and filled in with Disney SOngs.

I walked in tot he traditional Wedding March and my Girls walked into When you Wish Upon a Star!

How cool....did not know you had the place to yourself if it was a wedding. I guess that is an additional "perk" from the VR.

I think the difference is that a ceremony on CC is in the morning, followed immediately by the reception in Palos, while they are officially "closed." For an onboard wedding or VR the ceremony is late afternoon and that Palos is open.

I've been trying to read everyone's PJs for DCL weddings and VR I see links to!!!! You all had beautiful stories!!! Thank you SO much for sharing! Please repost your links for anyone who also might be interested to relive your events! I would like to see if there are any I may have missed!

Everyone's events were so unique. I can't wait to get the ball rolling on mine:rotfl:!

What "perks" did you get for being a DCL bride that isn't in the contract? Some of your cruises sound like you got alot of "extra" attention... Anyone get upgraded? Presents from DCL? Additional bottles of champagne? Early boarding???? Love to hear the exciting things that happened to you!!!!
