Disney Counter-Service Food..Am I the Only One?.......

QS does leave something to be desired. I love Electric Umbrella at Epcot, I have never encountered lots of closed QS places. I am getting ready for trip 6 and 7 this year and will keep this in mind!

Note the OP was lamenting the lack of counter service options availalble when staying in the park later at night. For quite awhile, there have been fewer options available for later hours. If you are in the park during its peak operating hours you will find more places open.

Awhile back WDW tried to make the kids meals "healthy" by substituting fruit for desserts and grilled chicken for fried nuggets, but there was such an outcry that the meals were switched back. There's still a lot of people wondering why they can't offer both grilled and fried though.

Is there a kid's menu at main street bakery? I don't see anything on allears. I would like to try it next year for my free qsdp dining. Does anyone remember what all they offer for lunch/dinner?

We were in WDW this past Aug on the regular dining plan. We were VERY dissapointed in the counter service with the exception on Wolfgang Puck Express in DTD Marketplace.

Agree with the PP who said MK and DHS are the most limiting.

But... MK does have one of my FAVORITE QS meals, the Lighthouse Sandwich at Columbia Harbor House.... mmmmmmmmmmmmmm.

Does Sleepy Hollow still have the chicken and wild rice soup? Was thinking about trying that next trip for a nice light option.

Epcot QS is fabulous. Last trip we didn't even book a sit-down Epcot meal, and not sure we will this trip either. Everyone always talks about how many good restaurants (sit-down) there are in Epcot, but I sort of feel like there are so many good QS options that I hate to the spend the time and money on a sit-down there! Sunshine Seasons... Norway... Tangerine Cafe... or just grab some fruit and pair it with some cheese and a baguette from Boulangerie Patisserie.... yum yum yum yum.

I guess what im also saying is, even the quality of theor standard fare has dropped. I remember the "old" chicken tenders. Now its more or less, over-breaded nuggets (less chicken, more breading). The burgers? Those things are disgusting. The fries are disgusting.

Rachel, you are right in that you CAN eat healthy but its hard in MK, and most CS closes early (didnt get my fish and chips at Harbour House . But as others have said, while i may find a great place at WS, finding healthy food for my child in the same place is tough. While we may eat bad on vacation, we try to be reaponsible for our child's choices for overhaul health but even for overall ebergy to get through the day.

You're right, I don't have children so I wouldn't understand that. I can imagine not healthy options for children though. I agree about those nasty chicken nuggets. I hate those kind of chicken nuggets so I wouldn't get them. And I have never had disney french fries or a disney burger, thankfully!

Yes, with recent changes like the Golden Outpost ONLY serving Chicken Nuggets and Fries (YES THAT'S IT) it seems like the childrens counter services is a choice of Chicken Nuggets or Uncrustables. Unless you are ABLE to go to a table service, it seems like there are super limited choices in MK. Staying for 11 days if you are not paying for table service meals or on the upper dining plans it is a lot of fried foods.
Worst yet if you have a dietary restriction (say reaction to sodium nitrate or milk) in my family,the limitations become worse. Cannot have ANY processed meats (cold cuts, sandwiches, hot dogs) or Dairy (no soups, salad dressings, pre made pre sauced anything). So litterally Chicken Nuggets and Uncrustables are it!
I know Disney is working on attempting to offer other things, but how hard is it to get chocolate Toffuti when they only have vanilla? Or make ONE hot dog nitrate free? Or not have to wait 20 minutes for somebody to "find" a special bun without milk for a hamburger from the back?

I guess I'm in the minority but I think the counter service options are getting better at Disney World, not worse. This last trip, we had the pressed Tuscan deli sandwich at Catering Company at the Studios. Before that, we had the meals at Flame Tree BBQ at Animal Kingdom. Cosmic Rays has good stuff as well. I love the pot stickers, egg rolls, and now the BBQ pork buns and chicken pockets in China at Epcot.

I rarely will eat a burger at Disney World because of the horrible buns. And I never am in a park and not eat.

I am actually quite happy with the CS options. I have done 10 days on the QSDP several times and never had a burger and have had some really tasty and healthy options.
So much so that I avoid the TS for the most part. I find the TS places to be overpriced and very repetitive.

For CS you have all the location in Epcot. Sunshine season is really good, Germany, and Norway are also a must do for me.
In DHS you have Starring Rolls
In DTD you have Wolfgang Puck (in the marketplace)
IN MK you have Columbia harbor house and main street bakery
In AK you have the yak and Yeti place as well as the barbecue.

In the resorts there are also lots of options for CS.

The ice cream cookie sandwich is a snack credit and it is plenty for two or even three to share! It is my favorite snack credit, right up there with a dole whip float!

The best surprise was the QS at Roaring Fork @ WL. They had two counters, one with some of the lesser quality stuff like burgers and nuggets (DH like the burger though), and the other side had some really fresh looking options and I wanted to try them all, but I ended up choosing the Wilderness Salad (SO good and really antgood, but a bit greasy, a nice splurge. They also has daily specials like bbq pork flat bread and several fresh pasta dishes. Kids meals do need to be better....

There are certainly a plethora of junk food places though, so it pays to look over all the menus, even the QS places, and come up with a few ideas - before everyone is starving
