DISNEY COLLEGE PROGRAM - A Spring 2013 Adventure! *COMPLETE* 11/20

February 26th, 2013 - Hollywood Studios and Kona!

This morning I woke up around 10 am and I got a text from Mark. He asked if I was up and if I wanted to go to Hollywood Studios before class. Umm& YES.

So I threw on some clothes and make-up and we went over to Hollywood! Sergio, Russell, Mark, and I were going to the park, and we dropped Raymond off for work because he works at Pizza Planet.

Mark and I went to Toy Story Mania!

img8851f.jpg

After that we were hungry! All I had for breakfast was a little yogurt so I needed to get some lunch! We decided to go to PIZZA PLANET! I had to make up for my lack of it last night.

We got in line and it moved so slowly. But eventually we got our food and went upstairs to eat! I got a salad and cheese pizza!

img8852q.jpg

Mark got the meatball sub! He doesn't like pizza. (I know, crazy right!?!)

img8858j.jpg

He also got the cutest souvenir cup EVER!! I may have to go back and buy that.

img8859n.jpg

I needed to try that cappuccino cupcake because everyone says how good it is. It was delicious!

After Pizza Planet, Mark and I headed out and went to class.

During this time I was dealing with quite an issue. It is a subject I just have to touch on here, because I want to avoid this as much as possible in the future.

I got two comments this morning sarcastically asking me, do you ever even work? Also, last week I got comments about how much food I consume.

For the most part, all of my followers are wonderful and supportive of my adventures here in Disney. However, there have been some comments lately that offended me and actually made me a bit upset. I don't let them ruin anything per say, but they are thoughts that bother me in the back of my mind.

I just wanted to send a general message out there to please think before you comment. I dont have to share my experiences at all, but I choose to because I know that these Disney stories bring a lot of magic into many peoples lives! However, when people comment on my work ethic, how much I eat, or how much money I spend, it does make me quite uncomfortable. I am a smart girl and I am confident that I make very good decisions.

I just wanted to clarify so there is no further confusion: I do work five days a week. On the two days I am supposed to have off, I take classes for college. So I really dont have a lot of actual full days off. Sometimes I get out early from work or I work late, so I go to the parks during my free time. As a CP, that is what you do. Typically my shifts are 8.5 hours, so I promise Im not sitting around and wasting my time away. If I live 10 minutes from a Disney park... why wouldn't I go, ya know?

Also, you all know that Preston is coming down this weekend. So yes, I am taking off of work for 6 days. We are going to a have a vacation with all of our friends for spring break so I will be going to the parks and I will be eating a TON of food. So if I post an excessive amount of park pictures, I promise I am not slacking. This is just my vacation time and I am REALLY looking forward to it!

Im sorry to go off on a rant, but I was very hurt today when people were telling me I was tasteless with my responses to these comments and the fact that I need to grow up because people are always going to judge me. I know people are always going to judge. It's part of life. Im in a theatre department and if anyone knows judgment, we do.

I understand that it is difficult to understand the DCP if you have never done it but this is how we live. We work hard and then we play in the parks during our free time. We eat Disney food and we hang out with our new friends from all over the world. We live in Disney World and we are trying to live every day to the fullest!

Its very unfortunate that I have to justify my lifestyle, but the message needed to be spread. I just really wanted to ask for some respect from anyone who is tempted to make similar comments in the future. I am not out there to brag about my program. I am not out there to make bad choices. I am just sharing photos and stories of what is happening in my life right now, and if that is not okay with you, please dont waste your time reading. I dont have the energy to deal with negativity or criticism, especially when there is absolutely nothing wrong with how I am living my everyday life.

Thank you for reading this general announcement. I think because I share so many details about my everyday adventures that many people feel like they know me personally, but unfortunately I only know a small group of you for real. Thank you for sharing your advice, but if it is going to be even slightly offensive, I would rather have you keep it to yourself. Even if its a joke, it still hurts. Please just keep the comments positive because I promise I wont do anything that is in my poor interest. As you can probably tell by this trip report, I am very good at time management and I can handle quite a lot at once. I am a big girl and I have to make my own life choices. If I really need extra advice I will talk to my family. Thank you for your concern, but please just read the reports for pure entertainment. Thats what theyre here for and I dont want them to cause any unnecessary stress on either end! :goodvibes

PHEW. Alright, rant over.

I picked up my packages from the clubhouse and my new phone case came in!! I needed a phone case with a little extra cushion to it instead of just a basic hard case, so I found the Haunted Mansion case on etsy.com that is PERFECT! I'm in love!!!!!!

img8873m.jpg

So after everything died down, Mark, his roommates Sergio and Shane, and I decided that we should go out to dinner! None of us had work tonight so that was a reason to celebrate!

Mark made us a reservation at Kona and we were SO excited. Kona is Marks favorite restaurant, Im OBSESSED with the food& especially THE BREAD, and Shane and Sergio have never been there before!!

We drove over there and listened to Dream Along With Mickey the whole way there. Mark is convinced that hes the voice of Peter Pan, so he always loves to sing SEIZE THE MOMENT, LET YOUR FANTASIES AND DREAMS SET SAAAAIL! Hahaha hes a child at heart.

So we checked in about 20 minutes before our reservation and they told us we would be called at our reservation time, 6:50 pm.

So Sergio and I went downstairs and looked at the pin book at the front desk. I found Chef Duffy, another World Showcase Duffy, and a Donald 2013 pin that I traded for! YAY!

We went back upstairs and then it was time to eat! It was so funny because we got seated at the same table as when Mark and I went there right before our program with my Mom!

We were all starving so we went all out tonight! IT WAS FEASTING TIME!!!!!!!!!

We started off with THE BREAD. Surge and Shane were so impressed. Not that I'm surprised. IT'S THE BEST BREAD IN THE ENTIRE WORLD!!!!!!

dsc0343zl.jpg

I got the California Roll for my appetizer. SO YUMMY OH MY GOODNESS.

dsc0346ap.jpg

I accidentally got a little bit of wasabi on one of my pieces of sushi and it was literally one of the most painful experiences OF MY LIFE. The wasabi like invaded my sinus cavities and I thought my head was going to explode!!!!! That's the scariest thing I have ever eaten. Thankfully after about 20 seconds it went away. AHHH WASABI.

Shane got the Shrimp Tempura Roll. We swapped sushis so we could try both. I REALLY liked that one too! It was so different from what I was used to! Maybe Ill try that kind next time!

dsc0345pgv.jpg

Mark got the pot stickers which he LOVED.

dsc0344dh.jpg

Then as far as entrees, Mark, Shane, and I all got the steak. THIS IS ONE OF MY FAVORITE DISNEY MEALS. The steak always tastes phenomenal and the rice tastes SO good with the teriyaki sauce!

dsc0348p.jpg

Sergio got the Pan Asian noodles with Chicken and he said they were SO GOOD. They looked really delicious!

dsc0347z.jpg

Then I wasnt going to get dessert& but IT HAPPENED. I got the fondue and it was SUCH a good choice. The fruit was so fresh and the chocolate was so smooth. Also, the little coconut cookie was amazing!!!

dsc0352xu.jpg

Mark got the Pineapple Upside Down Cake which is usually my choice of dessert at Kona. SO YUMMY!

dsc0349g.jpg

Then Shane got the Banana and Chocolate Crème Brulee. He really liked it!

dsc0350g.jpg

We left Kona and went back to the apartments. We needed to get home in time for Mark to watch Dance Moms! We listened to What Makes You Beautiful on the way home and decided thats the theme song of our reality show Patterson Court: The Gated Community.

We got back to the apartments and I put away my pins. I went over to Marks apartment and I got caught up on my trip report.

I haven't responded to any of your posts yet but have been following along since the beginning. I started my CP in Fall 2012 as a non-traditional age student but wasn't able to finish my program. I love getting to read along while you go through yours, you give me such confidence to try applying again for Spring 2014!

But what I really wanted to say is I am so proud of you for taking a polite stand against people who criticize your work habits, spending habits, and ESPECIALLY your eating habits. You are a beautiful girl with a good head on her shoulders, and no one has any place to judge how you eat or work or spend the money you earn. I watch so many people get steamrolled by criticism on these boards, and I'm so glad that you took a kind stand and put your foot down against them! You don't owe any of us any explanation or anything, so I'm so glad you're still sharing your CP adventure with everyone.

Just want to say thank you for sharing your experiences on here! A lot of fun to read :)

We already talked about this obviously. But like. I'm gonna talk about it more because it is so ridiculous that some people are making you feel like you have to EXPLAIN YOUR WORK SCHEDULE just so you don't get rude comments. That's absurd. Yes, you do work hard. That's obvious to anyone with a first grade education. But what if you didn't work 5 days a week? What if you worked 1 day a week and partied the rest of the time? What if you spent 90% of your time in the parks knocking back dole whips like you were being paid $20 a pop? Would THAT make you worthy of harassment on the internet?

NO.

CHECK YOURSELVES AT THE DOOR PEOPLE. We should all be able to do what we want in our lives unless we're hurting someone. If a person is hurting you or someone else than by all means call them out, raise hell, do whatever you want. But if you are a GROWN ADULT throwing insults to a TEENAGE GIRL OVER TWITTER BECAUSE SHE ENJOYS HER LIFE, you need to sit down and talk to someone. I'm serious. That's sickening. You're criticizing someone for having fun at Disney World. If you need someone to direct your anger at I suggest reading the paper or turning on the news. Trust me, there are plenty of people in the world ACTUALLY DOING THINGS WRONG so if you need a distraction from a life so boring that you try to hurt people who've done nothing to you, I suggest going after one of them.

And to the people who comment about the food she eats - You're the worst of all. You're the reason why people everywhere are starving themselves and hurling after they do eat. I'm sure it sucks that you eat salads all day and still can't fit into that one pair of jeans you've had in the back of your closet forever while you see Jess continuing to looking great as she chows down at Pizza Planet and Starring Rolls. I get that life isn't fair. We all feel jealousy at times. RISE ABOVE THAT CRAP! Don't give into that horrible voice inside you that wants to take that hit at someone who doesn't deserve it.

PEACE NERDS.

I have been reading your trip reports for a long time and have loved every single one. The people who are posting these things do not understand what the DCP is like. Plus, true DISers love reading about food and the parks so that is what we post and share with others. Trolls will be trolls, pay them no mind. Keep on doing what you are and enjoying your time there. Thanks so much for sharing the experience with all of us. :goodvibes

I'm sad to hear that people can be so mean on the DIS. "People throw rocks at things that shine" - and Jess you SHINE and bring Disney magic to us all here. Keep on rocking the CP and don't listen to the meanies!!

Hi, Jess!

I haven't been commenting because I know how busy you are and responding to all the comments would be an impossibility! :scared: But, I will post if rarely just to let you know I am still reading and have something I need to say.

Not that it matters what I think, but I honestly wouldn't change a single thing about you. No matter what you are doing whether it be attending classes, working the front desk, enjoying the parks, pin trading, cleaning the apartment - you handle all of it like Cinderella. You may not be happy 100% of the time, but you always, always make 100% of what you are doing. How many people could have that as their motto?

You work hard, you study hard (congrats on the 100%), and you do what you love to do best - love everything Disney. Enjoy the parks every moment you can. This time will pass so quickly. If I had been lucky enough to have your opportunity - I'd be enjoying all the parks and restaurants and shops as much as I possibly could. You show how responsible you are by always placing those 3rd after work and school. BRAVO!

OK, I'm done. LOL As always, read you soon! :surfweb:

Jess, I'm proud of you for not giving in to all of the negative comments that you've been getting. Its so hard when people are rude and insensitive about things that are none of their business in the first place. The whole point of Disney is fun, and what could be more fun than, eating Disney food, buying Disney stuff, and playing in the Disney parks? People have no right to judge you. Keep on going! I adore your reports. I love you regular trip reports of course, but this one is especially wonderful because I hope to do my own DCP soon and I've learned a lot from you already. I hope you have the best time in the world when Preston comes down to visit you!

If anyone on twitter or here is ever rude to you again immediately block them. They are jealous and not worth your time.

You are pursuing your dreams and that is a fantastic thing. Thank you for sharing this experience with us.

I've been lurking on these boards for a while now and finally decided to comment! I just want you to know that I love reading your trip reports and really appreciate you taking the time to share your DCP experiences. I always wanted to do it in college but now I'm going for my master's and I feel like it's too late. I really enjoy reading your updates and hearing about the program from someone who is so passionate and knowledgeable about Disney!

It's really horrible that some people have made you feel you have to justify your life style :(. I know this can just be just something to say as an easy get out when people are nasty but these people are just truly and bitterly jealous. Jealous that you live in disney, jealous of how much fun you have and jealous that you can live eating disney food and still look great. I personally would love to live like you are right now but that's just not the path my life has taken me. So like many others on here I instead enjoy and look forward to reading your updates about your work, how much fun your having and all the yummy food too. I know you don't know me but just keep doing what you're doing Jess cause you are really doing a great job ::yes:: x

I am sure enjoying all of the pictures of delicious food, palm trees, and now the addition of the new buses. Can't wait to see it all again three weeks from today! :cheer2: Thanks for bringing Disney World close to home when I can't be there!

I have LOVED reading all about the CP and your experiences. My son will soon be finishing up his freshman year of college and he is seriously thinking of applying. I can see him fitting in really well. We are HUGE Disney fans and have always encouraged our kids to do the CP...I really hope he decides to but in the end, it is his decision. I am going to share you report with him.

I hope he does this, Darlene! He would be great as a cast member, and it would be a fantastic experience for him! We had a church friend who just came back home from her CP in January, and she loved it!!! Tell him Tennessee is voting that he should do it - do it - do it! :woohoo:

PEACE NERDS.

I'm quoting Lia, because I agree with every single thing she says.

I'm sure that the large majority of people who make certain comments (not including the horrid guy from yesterday), don't have bad intentions behind them, BUT that doesn't mean it's appropriate or okay for them to comment on how you spend your free time, the money you worked hard to earn, or ESPECIALLY what you eat. I mean, obviously you are going to talk about and post pictures of the fun and exciting parts of your day more often than the mundane ones, and you are going to tweet more when you are enjoying your time in the parks as opposed to when you are in class or work - that doesn't mean you aren't working hard in those areas! And HELLO, you're in Disney. Do these people know anything about you? OF COURSE you're going to be in the parks when you have time to kill or when you are hanging out with your friends.

I'm so proud of you for mentioning this on here, especially prior to PRESTON COMING TO DISNEY (!!!!!) because that is going to be such an amazing time for both of you and these comments (and the negative feelings that go along with them) are not something you should have to be concerned with whatsoever. And if anything happens, you just let Lia and myself know. We'll know what to do. *FRUMP TEAM- ASSEMBLE!!* But seriously though.

You are amazing and I am so happy to follow along with all your Disney adventures, DCP included, and that through it, I've also gained you as a friend.

Now for something REALLY to get you outraged - my husband's company recently sent down two people from the office to Disney to present on something they're doing at work. The one guy stayed at the Yacht Club - and he told Scott it was NOTHING SPECIAL and he DIDN'T GO TO EPCOT. WHAT IS THIS MADNESS. They'd better send Scott and myself next time, that's all I'm saying.

Reading your posts makes me wish that I would have done this (I don't think they visited DeVry at the time).

It makes me want to make a trip to CS when o come down next month just to say hi! Keep going and don't let anyone's comments bring you down.

Just sent a twitter follow request. I think I can help with your twitter request, will send you a PM.

Lia is so right, Jess. You live your life, you make your choices, and you have a blast! Just because "they" don't get to LIVE IT UP, doesn't mean they can harsh on you for what you do.

With all that said, holy moly girl, that cappuccino cupcake is my favorite thing in all of Disney... Or is it the tonga toast? The dole whip? Bahhhh! I can never decide, now I want it alllllll!!!!!!:dance3:

Hi. I've been reading your posts since you started this thread. I haven't commented but after reading what people were saying I just wanted to pop in and say that I have really been enjoying it. I am very glad that you are taking the time to post.

I look forward to reading more. :)

Jess,

I just started reading your blog before our February 12-18 trip. I love every single thing you write, I love all your frump videos and I think pursuing your dreams is incredibly admirable. I'm not really a poster and THAT is the only reason why you've not heard from me. I look forward to my daily dose of Frump and can't wait to hear more(and more) of your adventures.

Keep on smiling your beautiful smile and delighting us with each and every thing you have to say. I hope you know how inspirational your posts, updates and videos are. In a world where we are inundated with grief, it is a wonderful thing to have some sunshine. :)

Jerelle

I'm proud of you for standing up for yourself! You already know how I feel about the situation. Lia is totally right! You are an amazing, accomplished, confident and intelligent young woman and anyone who thinks otherwise can just take a flying leap!

I love Pizza Planet...as far as cast members go, I think they have some of the best! In December, the CM ringing us up for lunch got everyone to sing me happy birthday. Then when we picked up our food another CM gave me one of those super cute LGM cups! So it holds a special place in my heart because they showered me with pixie dust...and have really good cupcakes! :lmao:

Thanks again for sharing your experiences with us! Keep on being the awesome person you are!:cheer2:

I haven't commented a lot lately because I've been in a very lurky mood. But I do find it unfortunate that people would post a negative comment in any way in your thread.

Unfortunately when you put yourself out there like this you also open yourself up to criticism. You're like a celebrity on these boards to a lot of people and some of those people are jealous of you. You know that saying "Don't Hate Me Cause You Ain't Me". Well they hate you because they ain't you. And unfortunately their momma's must not have taught them Thumper's golden rule. If you don't have anything nice to say, don't say it at all!

Awesome, all caught up!!! I love when there are a bunch of updates and I can just keep reading and being happy and pretending I'm in Disney too :rotfl2:

So exciting Preston is coming and what a wonderful visit with your family, the stories about your Nana were so heartwarming and your cousin looked like she had a blast!! And love love Wreck it Ralph and Kona yummmmmm, I can't wait for May to do all of this!! :cool1:

I have to say I saw those comments on Instagram and I instantly got defensive in my head for you. The thing is people will joke and tease and be jealous and make comments but what they forget is that.........they don't actually KNOW you. I get what it feels like to think you know someone because you follow them thru their reports and photos but that doesnt make it ok to judge their lives. And those comments unfortunately stick in your head! But, forget those people, block them, say whatever you want....this is your life and you are living a dream and how you spend your time has no bearing on these people. So keep enjoying ever minute of this experience, eat as much delicious Disney food and buy as much cool stuff as you can :cheer2:
I have been dieting for our upcoming wedding  and my fiancé said you're not going to diet in Disney are you? I looked at him like he had four heads and said "There's no calories in Disney and I'm eating cupcakes for breakfast and trying ever stuffed pretzel ever made" :rotfl:
One more thng, I don't know if you ever came across it but I follow along on a live food thread here on the Dis, it's awesome, you should check it out!! :goodvibes
