Disney Club discount on National IS working!

For the last 6 or 8 weeks I've been getting occasional e-mails from MouseSavers readers who say they can't get the Disney Club discount to apply to their online reservations with National. I had heard National was having some web site problems, and I figured this was why they were having trouble getting the discount.

However, I thought I'd share my own experience today, which is leading me to a new theory. I had an existing reservation, made months ago, for four days at a base rate of $29.44 a day, totaling $117.76, reduced by a 20% DC discount ($23.55) and the Buena Vista internet coupon (also $23.55), each of which were separately listed on the reservation. With tax the total was $95.11.

Today I started with a completely new reservation (as I do every couple of weeks, just to check rates) and found that the base rate was now $23.00 per day before putting in any contract IDs or coupons. Great! So I made a new reservation using the DC contract ID and the Buena Vista internet coupon. The coupon showed up on a separate line, but the DC discount didn't. Uh-oh, I thought -- my readers are right, the DC discount isn't working. Then I looked more closely, and realized the BASE RATE WAS NOW TOTALLY DIFFERENT! It was now $18.54 per day, which is roughly 20% off the $23.00 base rate. With the coupon deducted and taxes added, my total for four days is now $77.09.

So my conclusion is, the Disney Club discount works fine (as long as capacity controls aren't exceeded for the date you want) -- it's just not itemized on the reservation the way it used to be.

Meanwhile, I just saved another $18 on my reservation! :D

Still not working for me.

I tried with no discounts and it's $125 weekly and $25 daily. I add my DC contract # and my $20 coupon and it's still the same base rates and I only get $20 off the total bringing my total from $245 for 10 days to $225 for 10 days.

Thank God I booked awhile back when it was accepting the discount and my grand total for a Full size EA is still $179.

Thanks anyway.

Rats. Sorry beattyfamily, I thought I was onto something.

I'm traveling this weekend, so maybe there's a lot of availability. Beats me how it all works.

It didnt' work for me either. I had a great "rate" but didn't reserve it. The next day, the discount didn't appear at all. Something is wrong with the website. Sometimes it lists my CC#, then the next time it doesn't.

I just tried a new reservation for 4 days in mid Oct. My price dropped from 95.11( with tax) to 77.09 (with tax).
The base price lowered from 20.10 per day (with the EC code) to 18.54 with the DC code.

I am very happy. Every penny counts.

Now I just need to carefully delete my old reservation;) .

seems it might be working on rentals of less than 5 days then.....

the 5 day or more ....still do not show any difference......even tried to see what the rate was without using my EC login....and it still came up the same .....approx 125$ for the week prior to free day for weekend coupon (17$ off approx)

other airport locations are giving 10% discount using the DC code but not orlando....

maybe they caught on to all of us using "two discounts at MCO"

who knows.....

has anyone called to ask what is happening.......

O.K. Mary, tried it for my 3-day rental for April, base rate still comes up $29.43/day, added DC 1freeday coupon and DC contract ID#, still $29.43/day, and only the (soon to expire) coupon discount appeared. No change in the daily rate. I then tried the United Airlines 1freeday coupon w/wo DC contract code (10-20%)off. No contract discount appeared and the day rate was unchanged @29.43/day. Odd little penny difference?? Thanks for posting though, It still appears that National only changes the front page of their website frequently, without changing the bugs within.:)

I have had a res with National for months now and I used the DC contract ID and Entertainment coupon to book. Last night I tried to confirm the res and price online and the DC discount was gone. (Yes, I first noticed this weeks ago, but hoped that the system was fixed.)

So, I tried to get a quote for a whole new res and the price came out the same... it was very similar to what Foodlover describes... the base rate was adjusted and the final price is only pennies off from my original res.

I decided to keep the original res in place. We fly out tomorrow morning, so I'll update everyone next week on our experience with EA and if we have any problems getting them to honor the original discounted quote. (I am taking my confirmation printout with me.)

I had reserved our EA car before the computer snafu happened, using DC and the Disney Club 'free day' code. When we turned in the car the total on my receipt was about $10 over what I had on the quote, but they had given me a lower per-day charge on our 5-day rental. When I compared the receipt with the ressie, it was apparent that the DC discount had been left off.

I had to go to the counter to resolve the matter, but because I had the full printout from when I made the ressie, showing both codes accepted, the clerk re-calculated the charge and I ended up with the lower daily rate AND the discount, as well as the free day.
She said that the computers were not supposed to accept a group discount AND a group coupon from the same group, and she was surprised to see that the website had allowed it.

DC discount worked for me and we have a 12 day rental..................

I just tried again and was able to get both the DC contract # and Coupon # in. We have 2 compact cars reserved for December. We have a group of 8 and 2 cars are cheaper then a van. Can't decide if it is worth $8 more for a grand am or$17 more for a Regal. We currently have 2 cavaliers reserved. How much luggage can you stuff in the trunk of a cavalier. Would the grand am or regal be much different???
We have to drive three hours to the airport with 2 adults and 2 kids in a 2 door cougar and 2 adults & 2 kids in a 4 door accent. I figure if we can stuff all of our luggage in those 2 cars for three hours then we should be able to stuff the cavaliers for our drive to the cruise boats from the BC.
Would you go for the bigger cars while on vacation?
Thanks

In the past when the check-in ticket amount did not agree with my reservation total, I have not gone to the counter to straighten it out. My feeling is that I have a written contract...my reservation print-out and I call when I return home. They have always taken care of the problem over the phone. I just don't think that I should have to waste my time at the counter because their systems have problems. This has happened on both Avis and Dollar.

I checked the other day and it went downfrom 95.11 to 77.09. I checked today and it is now at 47.93.
That is for 4 days using the DC code and the entertainment code for a free weekend day.
It also includes tax. This is totally unbelievable. Now I can only hope my November reservation goes down as well.

EllenJ, How did you get that low rate with National. I am trying to get a decent price for a 9 day rental in early December. I am a Disney Club member. Do I need to join the Emrald Club and then use some DC discounts?

Please help.
Thanks

gretel....

it worked for you.....but when did you make the reservation

lately it has not been giving the DC discount (that is showing if off the base rate) when people book....

you may have booked before the change was made.....

skee:

we have often been told too that you cannot "double dip" as they call it, it was part of their training they told us ....maybe they are enforcing that in mco now......

you can still get 10% at other airports with DC and still use a coupon....so there is some confusion about the "real policy" ....

PS....

just read another thread on here about the DC discount working again.....and sure enough it is for our dates of dec 1 - 8.......20% off the base rate along with being able to use a discount coupon......

so if you have been waiting for national to fix the problem ....it seems to have been taken care of.....

It just worked for me using the free day rental and DC discount for dec. 7-16!!

I noticed that most of these reservations are for November and December. Has anyone received a good rate for 2002, like spring or summer? Or is it too far out to book yet?

There is a coupon ID# good for "one free Day" on a weekend rental through 04/15/2002. I found the web site with this coupon thru mousesavers.com. I rented a car last night thru National for 11/17 thru 11/21. The rent was $108 with taxes, this included the DC discount and a coupon discount. Each line showed up separatly on the rental. This is for a full size car.

I had reduced a $201 rack rate on a full-size 8-day rental (12/9-17) to $175 using Emerald Club plus $15 entertainment book coupon code, and thought I did well. Now I used DC 10% off contract number plus the free weekend day coupon number (still through Emerald Club). It accepted both for a rate of $142, an additional $33 savings! (Yes, I am a member of both DC and Emerald Club.)

Thanks, Mary, for starting this thread! If nothing else it encouraged me to experiment further.
