Disney can be soooo Cheap sometimes

Here's a disney cutback:
The torches around the world showcase used to be lit about a half hour before illuminations started. So they were lit the whole time the pre-illuminations music was playing. Now they light them up just a few minutes before illuminations starts (and of course blow them out when illuminations starts). So it's harder to see which way the wind is blowing (the torches used to be a good indicator) when looking for a place to watch the show.

About catching a cold from the cold, new studies have recently demonstrated that cold temperatures can lead to a greater susceptibility to catching a cold.

What studies?

Back on topic...It's a shame it was too cold when you were there! We were blessed with 80 degree wather and warm pools at BWV and OKW a couple of weeks ago!

Lets try again.

I went to the Beach Club and expected the pools to be heated.

Someone at Disney thought they could save money by turning down the heat
but not telling the guest when they booked the trip.

Do you think Disney trys to pull little cost-cutting ideas that can look good on paper but don't help when a guest is expecting a first class trip?

I am not even complaining. I had a great trip!
But I want the people to have a voice.
If you catch Disney trying to shave a few pennys, and it seems silly, shouldn't we speak-up?
They had better watch out if they continue to do this I have a freind who works the FD at the BC and I heard that they almost lost a diamond rating from AAA. IF they continue to pull stuff like this they will lose the rating for sure.

Sorry but this comment made me laugh! :rotfl2: Did you ask them when you booked what the pool temperature was? And what would you do if they had told you a specific temp and it was off by a few degrees? It seems like a very odd thing to upset you so.

The small pool was very warm and really nice. (kind-of proves they can do it) :scratchin

The BIG STAR ATTRACTION POOL was quite uncomfortable and down-right cold. People go to the Beach Club for two reasons....1) its close to Epcot, and 2) the fantastic big pool.

I was not upset. I had fun :cool1: . I just thought this would make an interesting topic because I know when Walt died... that lots of things at Disney became the realm of Accountants.

So .... I thought to myself, I wonder if there are other examples of this type of penny pinching? And wouldn't it be fun to learn about it? We do come to Dis-board to learn new things about Disney? right?

could it be that the cool air cooled down the pool even when the heater was running at full tilt? or maybe the heater had the nerve to malfunction? or it was 80 but it just didn't feel like it? given the layout of SAB i would think w/the water moving so much it would be hard to keep it heated...

germs cause colds... cool pools do not cause colds... :duck:

This thread is completely insane.

People who live in Florida are insane.

Last year, when I went to Florida, the only ting I had to complain about was that wherever I went, Disney World, friend's houses, etc.
, the pools were all warm! It was disgusting! And when that poster said the pool was at 70 instead of 80, I almost spit out my drink! 80???? That is SO wrong.

A pool is suppose to be for cooling off and being refreshed! Not feel like you're swimming in your own pee! ICK!

And the comment about catching a cold for 3 weeks from swimming in that pool? That was hilarious! What an idiot. :rotfl2:

You make two good points.

1) but the air temp wasn't that cold... and we had sunny days durring the week.

2) if the heater broke, that would be OK with me. Things do break and you get them fixed ASAP. But you could just tell your guest "Sorry the Heater is not working right". However this was not offered by any of the pool staff I talk to.

I'm more interested in the idea that Disney might have been trying to save money. And thought that no one would get together on a place like Dis-boards and call them "out" on their little trick?

Do you really think it is a good idea to call a person an idiot?

The report was on CNN about 2 months ago. NEW STUDY- finds that cold lowers our ability to fight off germs, that we have already been exposed to. The report went on to say... you are exposed to germs all the time. To develop a cold you must be exposed, and in a weakened state. Extreme weather causes the body to fall victim to germs that would normally not be strong enough to bring on a full-blown cold-response in a other-wise healthy persons.

Wow this poor OP must feel like he/she opened the proverbial can of worms! Other than the heated poo comment this thread has been way too serious! I see what they meant, for what you pay at Beach Club the pool should be quite comfy.

I cannot believe this thread! Why don't we take the OP out and shoot him for daring to be offended with Disney. And it was really great that 82 people took the time to tell him how wrong he is about catching colds. :rolleyes1 Why does it seem like there is so much jumping on people (even when it's done "politely") who post sometimes?

Mel, who just wants to read more funny or informative posts. (And not infrmative in an "82 people repeating the same thing" kind of way.

yes, that's true. but you're missing the point!

70 degrees is not cold for a pool!

:rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2:

i just think it's funny that Floridians think it is. You want cold? Come to Connecitcut.

Thank you. :thumbsup2

You're welcome!

I tell my friends who live in Fort Myers how insane they are.

Maybe i'm the insane one here, but I love my cool crisp New England falls and winters. :confused3

Sunburns, sweaty armpits and skin cancer is just not my thing.

They should pick up WDW and put it in Oregan or something. Just KIDDING! :rotfl:

Huh! :scratchin I'm curious now, and will hunt it up. I have heard all of my life that this was a myth. That being cold doesn't lower the bodies defenses.

Thanks. :) Gives me something interesting to look up!

BTW, pools are to enjoy. In the summer, when the temp is 80 degrees, cool water is great. In the winter, when the temp is 65 degrees, warmer is better.

Ignore trolls... :headache: I just can't seem to remember this!

I seriously doubt they care about people here finding them "out". They cut back on things all the time. Remember Mickey shaped butter? Gone. Passholder Lounges? Gone. I know there are a lot more, but I'm hungry and can't think right now. :teeth:
On second thought, maybe it's my sweaty armpits that are distracting me. :rolleyes2

Hey Markstudy - stop apologizing... Almost April is almost obsessed with trying to make you sound mentally challenged.

April - chill out - if he wanted cold, all he had to do was read your posts. brrrrrrrrrr............
