Disney buttons in carry on luggage

I've read a lot of posts about people travelling with pin collections in their carry on bags, but has anyone had experience bringing buttons in a carry on? We aren't checking bags this trip, and I wanted to bring back "I'm Celebrating" buttons to put in our Disney Wedding welcome bags, but the buttons have a longer and sharper "needle" than a collector's pin and I realized there's a good chance that TSA will confiscate them... I would just have them shipped home while we were there, but we live in Canada and flat rate shipping would be pricey for buttons that should otherwise be free.

Won't be an issue with TSA.

Actually the chance of TSA confiscating them is very, very small. They aren't on the list of banned items and I've never seen a report of anybody having a problem with them.

That would be great! Hopefully you're both right. Definitely worth giving it a shot then.

They allow knitting needles on planes. If you've ever seen some of the skinny ones, you would understand that buttons are fine.

If you have a large quantity, just put them in a sealed bag and take them out of carryon and put them in a tray going thru security.
I have done that with a large quantity of loose pins and had no problem.

Yes, I did know they allow knitting needles. Even though they're more blunt, I suppose they could probably do a lot more damage than a small needle on a pin. It seems there are mixed reviews on sewing needles online, but most sources seem to say they're allowed, and that would be similar.

Came home from our February trip and didn't have any problems with our pins or buttons in our carry on. Thought we were going to have trouble when they sent my bag back thru the scanner 3 times, but found out that it was my paperback book that was causing the problems.

That's good news. But isn't it funny what things look suspicious in those machines?! We once had our suitcase torn to pieces because we had a bag of gluten free flour we'd bought somewhere because we couldn't get it in Canada. But then again, a mysterious bag of white powder should probably be investigated! We learned not to make that mistake again. :)
