Disney Building Permanent Bag Check Area

Checking bags of tourists at Walt Disney World will continue indefinitely for theme park guests, according to a Local 6 News report. Disney is reportedly replacing the folding tables and tents that have been set up in front of Magic Kingdom turnstiles since Sept. 11. The park is building a permanent bag check area to take the place of the tables. The new facility should be ready in April.



Just some info I thought I'd pass along. Don't know if it's been mentioned yet.

Hopefully they will man them better. The last trip this Dec. we had no lines to 20+ minute waits. Sometimes they would have 2 or three tables open then somnetimes they would have just one open and that would create a real bottleneck!!smjj

When we were there a few weeks ago,They already had the green walls up to start construction. It is sad that it has to be done but glad Disney is taking the security seriously. Slightly off topic. They just caught a guy with a loaded pistol trying to get through security at LAS today. 1 in the chamber 14 rounds in carryon. They say not terrorist related. He was in town for the races and there was a gunshow in town. Just wondering since Disney has started bag searches, if any weapons have been found?

Construction is well under way at Epcot and Animal Kingdom as well. Work should start soon at MGM. The new areas will work exactly the same as the old ones. They will just be sturdier and have lights and fans. Epcot's design fits with the style of the entry plaza, DAK's are made of wood, and MK's feature flourishes of iron work. The tables will be pill-shaped, about 48"x20". The MK structures are being built partially in the space once occupied by flower beds, so as not to build over any 'Walk Around the World' tiles.

Unless they start doing searches like at the airports,(pat downs and the such) they are not going to work at catching a terriorist. They are going to catch the idiot who thinks he has the right to carry a gun or knife and how dare someone telling him different. Not a criminal or terriorist, just someone stupid..smjj
