Disney bought our offer back through the Timeshare store!!

I own at BCV and would like to give the original psoter some other things to think about when considering what resort to buy. As more and more people who own at the existing small resorts begin to recognize that SSR and OKW owners want to book at the small resorts, you might find that many of us are beginning to plan more to make sure that we book before the 7 month window. In other words, scarcity may lead some to plan more ahead than they have in the past, leaving fewer rooms for those that own at other resorts. Secondly, what you might find is that with the small number of rooms that are available at the smaller resorts, you will be competing with otehr SSR owners as well as others for those small number of rooms, making it more difficult to book a room. I believe also, though I can't recall, that your contract does not gurantee you any accomodations other than those you purchased which means that although unlikely, Disney could restrict you only to using SSR if you bought SSR, I might be wrong on this though as I have not looked at my contract lately. There have been a number of threads in the past about how the size of SSR might make the 11 month window more important. If you like SSR and would be happy staying there all times, then I would go for the extra 12 years, however, given my recent experience trying to book BW standard view studio for either the first 2 weeks in December 2005 or the first 2 weeks in January 2006 and basically getting nothing that would allow a booking of 4 consecutive days, SUnday - wednesday, 6 -7 months out, I would not assume that you will always be able to book outside of your home resort. You might want to look at another recent thread that mentioned that they were waitlisted for the BW standard view for January indicating that the competion for rooms at some of the smaller and more conveniently located resorts is getting stiffer.

Right you are, Jim. But regardless of which refrain one likes to sing, I think we're in agreement that absurdity plays no part in determining which vacation plan is best for any particular family.
Right...I don't think there is any absurd option. There are only a variety of good options to choose from. "Buy where you want to stay" doesn't matter for my family, but it is the best option for a lot of people.

In my family, absurdity only enters the picture when we start trying to figure out how many totally impossible missions we can attempt in a single 24-hour period at WDW! ;)

I am very disappointed! .... My husband said "Let's forget it" but I might like to try again - any suggestions? It was for $78.00/pt so It was a reasonable offer.
Any help??

Don't quit. Learn from the experience. Go for it again. If BWV is the resort for you, then buy there! It's a great resort in the middle of the action. The right contract will come along. I would not buy at a resort you don't like as much to save a few bucks per point. It won't be worth it in the long run.

Sorry that Disney excercised ROFS on your contract.

Wouldn't hurt to check out the thread regarding the tips/average prices for ROFS.

Please keep trying and post when you buy in.

Maybe this will give you a little incentive to keep going on your journey to buy into DVC-- Welcome Home Neighbor (Almost).

Michigan RN -- Just keep looking for the right contract and check Beca's thread before you make an offer to see what the latest ROFR #'s are. You'll have your contract in no time! :goodvibes

Newbie here and confused. If anyone has any info on the guarantee of accomodations at the resort your purchased I would be very interested on how this works. I have tried to make a reservation at my home resort but the "Inn is full" as they say.

I don't think that vanstoj was saying that the language GUARANTEES a place at your home, but there is language in the contracts that mean the policies could change and points could only be used at the "home."

I agree with "buy where you want to stay," if all of the following are true for your family: 1) that you can plan and book vacations more than seven months in advance, 2) that you really care where you stay (e.g. BWV for Food & Wine), and 3) if you are vacationing during peak DVC periods and/or need specific accommodations that might not be available at seven months.

If you can't book seven months out, or you don't care, the popular refrain really doesn't matter.

There is no "one-size-fits-all" solution, so you have to think about what your family really wants and needs, and then use DVC's flexibility to give you that. There's an answer for everyone, but it's not always the same simple answer.
Jim, there's no doubt that there are situations where the home resort has no meaning. However, the first question for those that fit outside your parameters above, is should they even buy. I'd suggest that MOST people that don't fit into your groups above should not buy. But there are exceptions there was well but would assume planning as a min at least a full 7 months out for most visits. I'd also submit that the times you can routinely get at far less than 7 months, I can get through II most of the time for a fraction the cost of owning DVC.

Disney bought our 1st one back too. I was so disappointed but we put another offer through immediately and that one just went through a couple of weeks ago. Do not give up. Just make sure your offer is not too low. I heard only 5% of offers is what Disney buys back so you just had some bad luck.
Try again and don't give up. We felt the same way - esp. because we wanted to go in Aug.

1) Well !
2) How rude !

3) As the others, I guess about $80/point will fly.
4) Also, as others, I recommend you to "buy where you want to stay".
5) It might not make a difference now, but WILL in the future.
6) Don't get discouraged, just try again.
