Disney Announces New Toy Story Land for DHS

I agree - no way this is $3 billion worth of stuff. Of course, the THE $3 BILLION is a rumor, one that seemed almost ridiculously large. This could easily be ONE billion though.
All of the sources I've seen still say 2:8 billion is the number. So with that not saying Jim is right with monsters and cars but I think there is something else that is missing.

While I think it s great to finally see change coming up..I'm a little bit disappointed..I would prefer pixar land and build new attractions based on other pixar movies

100% agree!!!!!

On our first family trip back in 2010 we were so disappointed in the Pixar area. We're big Pixar fans and we made plans to eat at Pizza Planet and we were so excited, only to arrive and realize that there was no theming! Chuck E Cheese puts more effort into theming their establishment! I expect Disney to deliver more magic than Chuck E Cheese. Sorry to go off on a tangent, that was a bit off topic.

I'm guessing it's Toy story themed because of the new Toy story movie? It seems like there's so much more potential for growth with a Pixar land. Disney is so slow at making these improvements, it's frustrating!

Even with these amazing looking Star Wars and Toy Story lands, i think the park could still face an identity crisis let alone the name change.

Personally i feel it's going to make sunset boulevard, GMR, ToT and RnR' look really out of place compared to how modern the rest is going to look.

Any more so than Storybook Circus? Disney could either re-theme around those areas, making them part of a new identity, or just set an area aside as being deliberately retro. Hell, maybe they move Captain EO over there too, and just call it Gen X Land (all your Saturday morning memories in one magical place).

It always was awkward having Pizza Planet separated from the well themed Pixar Place. A shame really.

That sounds close, but this is how I see it...

I just had a discussion on another board with someone about this image, and they said that the building labeled New Queue is actually the existing TSMM building without Sound Stage 1 shown and the building labeled "Existing Toy Story Building" is actually the Great Movie Ride. I was initially skeptical about this but after some discussion I have reason to believe he knows what he is talking about. Yes, the TSMM building isn't show accurately, but if you put that aside, it does seem to match up.

Not sure if this has been posted yet, but here is one person's design (NOT Disney's) on the point of view as you ride the new Slinky Dog Roller Coaster. Doubt if they have the speed accurate, but it still is nice to watch.

I thought that too at first, but it doesn't quite add up. I know this is "concept art" and not meant to be completely scale, but the roof line does not look like TSMM. Roof line looks like the building on the left in the artwork, and the new building appears to have different levels on the roof. I thought the connecting piece may have been the archway outside, but it is not that big. The final point to me was the fact the TSMM building is longer than the GMR building (as shown in photo below). TSMM is in the middle of the photo and TGM is on the bottom. TSMM extends a little farther to the right of TGMR (stopping before the little courtyard outside the Journey to Narnia/Jack Sparrow building). In the concept art, the building on the left is much bigger than the new building and extends much farther but as you can see, TGMR is not like that. I now believe that the big building to the left in the concept art is indeed the current TSMM building and the smaller building is a new entrance and queue with a hallway connecting the two. In fact, the new hallway, if the artwork correctly shows it located halfway down the existing building, looks like it would lead into the current queue area which is in the area between the round overhang and the overhang for the old Studio 1 building. Concept art attached below for comparison.

And for the record Dan, I was following your discussion on the other board, but still not completely buying what he was saying. Again, I originally thought the same but I see a lot of concept art in real estate and real estate development and it usually is not so drastically different as this is said to be, with TSMM being at least 1/2 or even smaller in scale. That building in the artwork must not be just the TGMR building, but the Chinese Theater queue area as well, just drawn as one big rectangle. He does know more than me though so I am open to the possibility and would not object to this being the case.

I checked some previous posts from the person who posted this information and he has a good record and doesn't show any of the classic signs of someone who try to BS the readers, so I am not going to be to quick to dismiss this idea.

That coaster simulation is cute and all, but we must remember that it is an artists' rendering, which means that the track layout may be nothing at all like what the artist drew.

During the panel Disney showed a bit of their own digital model of the ride so I think the design is mostly set. Watch it on the TheDis video Toy Story Land Disney Parks Announcement at 4:06. You can notice some differences between the two ride throughs, such as the coaster track tilts and other little things. I actually think the entire area's design is set unlike Star Wars; we dont even know what park the Star Wars concept art was designed for if any.

Yes, and I think that is because this land is ready to be started as soon as they can. I've heard construction could start as soon as October the start of fiscal 2016.
