Disney Announces New Star Wars Lands for DL and DHS

Seems hard to believe they can make it look like that.

It doesn't look star wars to me…or more accurately - it looks like all the cgi junk that lucas insisted he had to have but fell completely flat on in his second round. The original (also known as the reason any of this stuff still sells) movies were about traveling through space with some cool stop motion stuff in the forest and a snowstorm…did i watch them correctly (100 times each or so…no joke)?

I mean (i'm getting ticked again)…what is wrong with making it about space? or something with the texture of the original movies…that had metal, lumber, and - you know - real actually humans/organic matter?

It's seems to be entirely about this new slate of movies…thats just risky - is it not?

I mean…they bought it whole, didn't they? do they have to pay old george a commission if they sell an empire t shirt?

I don't get the "must be new" tact they seem to be on. If its all about selling the junk shipped form china (it is…lets not mince that) then wouldn't more be sold if they blended the new and the old?

maybe at least a "shoot the jar jar" pellet gun thing like they might have in wildwood, nj or something?

Actually I kinda meant the size etc but whatev.

I've also seen others over there where muppets is not at risk.

that building in the concept art in the right is where the wall of tatooine trader is now. The big tree on the left and building is where the speeder bike photo spot with the back of the sounds dangerous and american idol building is now. That big tree structure on the right side is where back lot express is now, to the left extending to where indiana jones is now. This is looking into the land from the side of muppet vision area. Where pizza planet is now is behind us to our right. New Yorsrk street is to our left. Muppets is not at risk. Backlot Express, indiana jones, the back stage area next to indiana jones up to about where the parades stage and behind star tours and a lower southwest corner of the parking lot. It will be really nice.

You are not the only one that said it could be going away. There are many of us who are currently planning trips for SWW 2016. We are concerned about how Season of the Force will affect SWW. Will they still do the autograph sessions, shows, M&Gs, the parade, and special meals? Will it be at the same time as it normally is? Even people who are normally in the know about SWW, do not know what's happening. There's a chance that nothing will change. The Parks Blog didn't answer the SWW questions either. So, we just want to know, so that we can continue our plans. I do that technically SWW will go away after the land opens; however, if they are smart, they will still have a time when they do the autographs and shows, because Star Wars fans expect that sort of thing.

I don't think you have anything to worry about. Until SWL is built, there is no other way to truly showcase SW. While Season of the Force and other things will be good, they cannot replace the weekends. Nothing but the full SWL can replace the weekends. I don't think they are going anywhere each May. I think SW parties in the spring - April to June to cover the May time, just like Halloween and Christmas parties, would allow all the special events like autographs sessions.

Your complaining about the cgi look of a painting? How can a REAL landscape be too cgi? Or a painting of a real landscape to come. Looks like a cool blend of organic and technology, but we won't know for sure as these are only preliminary concept paintings. You always caution us to wait and see, so wait and see before you get upset about a concept painting. What would you want it to look like, btw? They can't do a space environment outside they will do that indoors and in the rides. Outside has to be a planet of some type. It is supposed to look alien and different. Looks cool and unique to me. Plus it's only a painting. They did some time ago say they would focus on the new movies, but they will blend in the old as well, as will the movies themselves (for example the Millennium Falcon).

Where do get any of that from? Just guess work or some inside knowledge? You certainly can't tell that from the painting itself!

Not much of a Star Wars fan, huh?

One of the problems with the "prequel trilogy" is that they spent 99% of their time with "lavish new worlds filled with aliens galore"

Then forgot the plot...the screenplay... And most definitely the acting.

So yeah...there is a bit of a "baby with the bath water"
Effect on awesome alien photo ops.

But that's the side point. My point was the emphasis on the movies yet to be made/shown. I get it...but they're wrong. The stuff will sell... And you know why?

Because they already have a 40 year phenom to sell
Stuff... Ironically something that can go vertical just about...tomorrow.

But that doesn't fit "the game" does it?
And it always seems to come back to the game, no? In wdw... At least.

I think you're spot-on. The other scenarios seem really unlikely, given the concept art matching up nicely with the current Star Tours. I think this is similar to what you are saying: http://i843.photobucket.com/albums/zz352/loaloauk/DLP that never was/dhsswland2.jpg:original

They're not going to leave LMA stranded back in the corner. This way Streets survives, and makes a nice expansion for more Pixar stuff should they ever choose to open up that dead end in Toy Story Land.

Taking a bit of a chance planning the look and feel around an un-released movie.

What if in the months before The Phantom Menace was released, Disney announced a new Star Wars land based on Naboo?

It would be OK and everything, if it was done well and the rides were good. But I think you could never have a "Naboo" theme park experience without reliving those terrible scenes of wooden dialog with people walking up and down the endlessly copy-pasted corridors making tedious observations about galactic politics, or even worse, thinking about the dreadful romance between Amidala and Annikin.

Here is what I speculate happened:

They (meaning Iger) snookered themselves by procrastinating and not thinking through their Star Wars theme park strategy. Which is ridiculous considering how much they paid for Lucasfilm and how much it costs for park expansion. They thought they could lie in the weeds and wait to see how the first movie does, then put together the concept art for a land based on either the new or the old movies in 2016, with shovels hitting the ground in 2017. But it entirely escaped their attention what a terrible mess DHS was turning into. Because they (meaning Iger) never experience the parks the way that their average customer does. But the uber-fans who belong to D23 basically drew a line in the sand ... we're definitely going to hear something concrete this year at the convention because nobody in their right minds would let a park go that much to the dogs without having a really great plan to fix it. They forced the issue. You've owned Lucasfilm for 3 years and you bought them allegedly for the synergy, right ... ? So they (Iger) panicked and said eeny-meeny-mynee-moe and released the concept art that goes with this December's movie.

Two years ago they could have started a Tatooine/Death Star based land. Next year they could have announced either an old- or new-movie based land based on whether this year's film is a hit or a flop. But this year, this summer, did they have to get themselves in this state?

If I'm right about this ... it's not the first time that they (Iger) allegedly panicked and pulled the trigger on a theme park land. Supposedly New Fantasy Land and Avatar Land were greenlighted under similar circumstances.

I'm not unhappy with either NFL or Avatar Land and I'm sure I'm going to enjoy Star Wars land in a few years. I'm just making an observation on the way that they (Iger) seem to do things.

It's not based on Ep. 7, it's a neutral 'new planet' unrelated to any others in the universe. Brilliant move, IMO.

Also, based on concept art and soundbytes from the presentation it looks like there'll be plenty of full immersion to offset the lack of attractions. I'm as excited for this as I am for everything else but I can't help but giggle knowing exactly where that particular strat comes from.

I agree but it's likely they have other attractions within the land maybe a show or something lots of details still missing.

Yeah, yeah, yeah. Throw in Jedi Academy, and they'll include Star Tours into this as well. I'm just not impressed right now. That's a huge expansion with not much to show for it.

Star Tours – The Adventures Continue – Later this year, Star Tours – The Adventures Continue at Disney’s Hollywood Studios in Florida and Disneyland park in California will include a new adventure featuring locations and characters from the upcoming film, Star Wars: The Force Awakens.[/QUOTE]

I like this idea of updating Star Tours with the latest characters and background from the new films immediately, as opposed to waiting a decade or more to update the entire attraction. Outside of the production cost of the new film, it should be an easy and inexpensive task to edit in these new adventures.

I wish they would do this with other film-based attractions more often i.e, Philharmagic and Soarin' which I know is getting a new film, but they shouldn't wait so long between the new and next ones.

So there are some fascinating rumors going around the internet about the exact placement and content of Star Wars land. I stress rumors. So it may never have been true, if it was true it may not be true any more. But hey we have to do something to occupy the next 5 years!

So the person claims their source says that Star Wars land will go from Echo Lake back to where Star Tours and Tatooine Traders currently are. All the current buildings in that area will be used just re-themed to fit and the "source" goes on to say they aren't sure about the 2nd ride, that it could just be a re-themed Star Tours not actually a third ride in the area. The notion being that this approach would be quicker and cheaper.

That rumor sounds like about the worst of all possible worlds. It does fit in with the minimal facts that we have so far in terms of what has already closed, but it would be highly disappointing. I'm expecting a rant from lockedoutlogic any second now and if it's what they do I don't think I'd have any rebuttals for him.

However, just a rumor. Wild speculation. Nothing more.
