This will be my first attempt at a trip report, after reading the amazing reports from Vettechick, 1000happyhaunts, and ZZUB, and being inspired to write one of my own. Hopefully I can entertain and make some people smile, just like these prose masters have managed to do...

Cast of Characters

Me, Amy, 24, Disney-a-holic, annual passholder, seasoned drinker, would do just about anything for a chance to drink around Epcot...even view The Making of Me repeatedly (RIP outdated film)

My Fiance, Brian, 27, the man who made this monster, annual passholder, seasoned drinker, would cut off his own arm if promised a Star Wars-esque mechanical prosthetic arm...

We live about 45 minutes away from the park, and for the last year we have been annual passholders, and could not be happier than when we are in a park, people watching, and having a couple beers.

I had only been to Disney twice before I met Brian three years ago. I had no clue the wonder that was Disney. In our three years together we have had many Disney trips, and in the past year we've gone as many days as possible. Brian knows he has created this Disney monster, and the Disboards have added to my obsession, because now I know I'm not the only one in the world that thinks about Disney constantly!! (Last week, I was on my laptop and Brian's laptop at the same time, on four different Disboards threads. It's sooooo addicting!!!)

We are very spontanious. This trip was planned last moment, during the previous week. Brian called me from work to discuss our possibilities...

"We can either get a hotel for Saturday night, which will be very last minute....or we could book a nice dinner somewhere and go on a shopping spree." Brian laid out my choices...I always make the final decision, whether I like it or not....but I can never say that I don't have a choice.

I chose dinner and spending a fortune on Disney merchandise....and beer. There will always be beer.

I called and was fortunate enough to get in Narcoossee's on Saturday night. I've been looking forward to eating at Narcoossee's and was glad to finally be able to put to rest the fear brought on by the varying opinions on the Disboards.

We made plans to leave for Disney midday on Saturday, as Brian had some things to finish up at work. We decided to visit MGM, as by far this is our favorite park. We are addicted to Who wants to be a millionaire and the Disney Animation Studio and attend these things every time we go to the park. This time, however, was different, because we had a shopping spree to attend to....

Making our way into the park, we noticed how empty the parking lot seemed. We've been to MGM more than any other park and can judge pretty well the crowd level by the parking lot. We felt like we were by ourselves!

Our first order of business was beer. Really, we're rather obsessed with having a beer in hand at the parks (Magic Kingdom aside of course.) We decided our route of attack and wanted to get something small to eat. Our big dinner was hours away, and neither of us had eaten yet. We decided on Flatbread Grill, right between the Honey, I Shrunk the Kids play area and the Backlot Tour.

Before we made it to the food, we passed Star Tours. This is our kryptonite. Have I mentioned Brian is a big Star Wars fan? We cannot pass Tattooine Traders without going in, and with the pending shopping spree hanging in the air, we had no choice.

StarTours.jpg

On this particular day, even though we had gotten dressed completely independantly of each other, we were both wearing Star Wars t-shirts. This never fails to make me feel like a dork on a regular day, but because we were at MGM, it was a little more acceptable.

So we followed our wallet (or his wallet, as it stands) and came out with even more Star Wars shirts to select from when we decide to match.

Onward to food and beer.

We both ordered the Chicken Ceaser Wrap and two large Bud Lights. I struggled between Bud Light and Sangria, but was happy with my choice when the person in front of me was served this tiny glass of Sangria on ice. Bigger is always better.

As an aside here, I'd like to say that I have a big pet peeve about some tourists at Disney. I don't think I will offend anyone on the DisBoards by saying that I hate it when people are not prepared for the parks. I think it is a prerequisite on here to be a overplanner and I certainly like to be prepared for anything new and this is the place to ask questions and be ready for anything. My issue is with people that come to Disney without reading any book, looking at any website, doing any research whatsoever. Especially if you only have a certain amount of time in each park, you have to be prepared for what rides draw the most lines at what time of the day, how to move through lines quickly and efficiently, what times are best to eat, etc. It bothers me. Don't judge. End rant.

The reason I bring this up is because while we were in line at Flatbread Grill, people formed a line on one side of the cashier podium. Lines form on both sides and the cashiers go back and forth between lines. We certainly don't intend to jump in front of people, but the lines happened to be forming far enough back that people could not easily move by behind us. So we started the second line on the opposite side of the podium. This caused the couple at the end of the other line to start making rude comments. Which caused us to not allow them to order before us, which was what we were going to do anyway. See, being rude at Disney never helps anything.

Back to the fun....

We finished our beers as we ate and decided to forgo the line at Flatbread Grill and head straight to the Backlot Canteen to get more beer. Unfortunately the line was also long here, as the day was hot and they also served icee type drinks for kids. The dedicated alcoholics in the line began complaining about the non-alcoholic selections of the people in line in front of us. We suggested to the omnipresent Disney gods seperate lines for non-alcoholic beverages. Anything to appease the drunken masses. But then, when drinkers are without the sweet nectar on which they thrive, no suggestion is too far fetched... Two Yuenglings later...

We headed past Who wants to be a millionaire, stopping briefly at the bathroom just past it (yep, I broke the seal early on...) and on to the Sorcerer's Hat to check out some pins. By this point it was Brian's turn to use the facilities and while I waited I took some pictures.

Next, we headed over to Min and Bill's Dockside Diner to get some more beers. Brian confused the Cast Member selling the beer by tipping her. Apparently it's ok to tip the barman at Backlot Canteen, but a couple bucks at the Dockside Diner gets thrown back in our direction. Who knows.

It was almost time for the parade, so we decided to hang out until it started. While we waited, we played with our new cell phones (which I took all of these pictures on) downloading new ringers. During my search for ringtones, I found an entire section with Star Wars sounds. During the next fifteen minutes, we downloaded every Star Wars sound and set them as our new ringers. Have I mentioned what Star Wars buffs we are?

We found a perfect spot for the parade and I started filming it with my cell phone. Let me preface this by saying that I recorded the entire parade and then the next day accidentally erased it from my new phone. It will be painful to recount what happened because I no longer have it on my phone, but I'll get through somehow....

First, I sounded ridiculous. I transformed into this high pitched, over excited moron, screaming at every character and yelling "yea!" everytime someone I liked rode by. It became grating to my nerves when I was watching it. I named every character that I could, sometimes misnaming them, like yelling "Dora the explorer" when JoJo's circus walked by....I don't have kids, I get them confused...maybe one day I will know the joy of JoJo's Circus, once my children decide they must watch it over and over until I want to scream. Until then, I won't remember the difference...

The best part was when Brian, who is six inches taller than me, spotted R2-D2 over the heads of the people next to us. His excited voice could be heard, asking me repeatedly if I got R2 on video. When R2 stopped feet from us and turned around and beeped, Brian was in Star Wars heaven.

Behind R2, sitting in a car, was Leia and Luke. Brian, if given the option, would fall to the darkside immediately, and has loathed Luke since he was a small child. I won't repeat what he really calls Luke every time he sees him, but it's a deep contemplation of which team Luke bats for, if you know what I mean.

Behind Luke and Leia paced Vader, the badest mofo in the galaxy. This is the only picture we managed to get, aside from the now deleted video.

Vader.jpg

The rest of the parade participants: (in no particular order) the Muppets, Ariel, Mulan, Toy Story characters, Disney Playhouse, Snow White, and finally Mickey and Minnie....

After the parade, we bought another beer from Dockside Diner and started wandering the stores on Hollywood Blvd. We found numerous items that I wanted, but decided to wait until the following day to make our purchases....we wanted to be able to go all out for dinner at Narcoossee's!

We did see these cute outfits for Pal Mickey which I loved!!!

palmickeyraincoat.jpg

After leaving the park, we decided to head over to the Yacht Club to hang out before our reservation at Narcoossee's. We walked around the quiet pool by the tennis courts and listened to an older gentleman complain that the hot tub wasn't hot enough and bought more stuff from the Yacht Club gift shop.

Finally we headed to the Grand Floridian. Let me just say that self parking at that resort is INSANELY far from the main entrance. I'm not real fond of allowing someone else drive my vehicle, but I think next time I'll opt for valet, cause yes, I am that lazy...

Couple of pics outside Grand Floridian.

We walked through the gift shop, trying to waste time before our ADR at 8:20pm. We decided to go ahead and check in, figuring we could sit at the bar and wait if we had to. We checked in about a half an hour early and meandered up to the bar. The bar is the cutest thing, with the bartenders sunk down about 3 feet. The chairs are short, only about 3 ft off the ground and when you sit at the bar only then are you face to face with the bartenders. We ordered two Corona's with limes and I proceeded to spray anyone in the general vicinity when I attempted to push the lime in the bottle and mix it. Always against Brian's advice on how to properly and safely insert the lime, I jam and squeeze until I have taken out the eyesight of everyone around me with the citric acid. I'll never learn.

About one sip into our Corona's, the thing signaling when our table was ready began going off. I was shocked and left Brian to pay while I went to the hostess podium. On my way down the ramp, I ran into an elderly CM asking if I was Ms. Amy. Amazed by how fast and impressively attentive this place already was, I nodded and was asked to follow to our table.

We had an amazing dinner, some of which I took pictures of, others I forgot to snap before I dug in. I had the filet minion and Brian had the surf and turf. During dinner, we looked out the window at the castle, watching it change colors and getting all sappy to be able to share this with each other. We were in the second row of tables on the first level and every time we looked at the castle, the girl closest to the windows would seem to take offense as though we were staring at her. It wasn't until we made some severe hand gestures towards the castle that she realized that we weren't, in fact, staring at her, but at the much more impressive view behind her....grrr...I love when people assume things only to make themselves look foolish...

Because we were seated early, we were about an hour early for Wishes. We decided not to wait around for the fireworks, because our full tummies and the couple beers we had hours before were making us incredibly tired and we still had a drive ahead of us.

Before we left though, we had a long talk with our waiter Tom, who was amazing. We've been considering a Disney wedding, and Tom had himself been married at Disney 9 years ago. He was a wealth of information and even gave us the managers number to set up private parties. We were so happy to have such an attentative waiter.....

We had an amazing Saturday and couldn't wait to come back Sunday....

Where will we spend our money?
How many beers will we consume?
How addicted to sushi am I?
What is Pocky and how does it taste?

The answers to this and some prerequisite pictures of us in sombreros in Mexico, in the next post!!!

Great report and Great pictures!!

I expect we'll be seeing more and more great reports from you - I'm so jealous of your 45 minute commute - I'm 19hrs away!!

:hippie:

Enjoyed reading your report ~ Thanx for posting.

Lovely piccies as well :thumbsup2

Nice day at the world. I don't think you had enough beer. ;)

Thanks for posting.

Really enjoying your report- cant wait to read more!
Sorry to say Ive never seen the parade at MGM- are the StarWars characters always in it?

Thanks

Thanks everyone for their kind words...this trip report is a much harder undertaking than I expected....I can barely remember what I had for dinner last night, let alone the events of a whole day...I guess I'll have to start carrying a notebook like some of the better reporters out there...and its only been a couple days!!!

As to not having enough beer, ain't that the truth...no such thing as too much....well, unless it involves seeing said beer for the second time...that's probably too much...

Anyway, I should get day two up this afternoon, I've got some stuff to take care of before I write it up....but it'll be here today....

And if all goes well, I have some older reports that I've already writen up regarding my first attempt to drink around the world....maybe I'll get those up later today as well....

Thanks again for the support!!! :goodvibes

45 minutes away, wow, did you always live in Florida?

I live 22 hours away. LOL!

OhMari -- I've lived in Florida for about 10 years, always within an hour and a half, but only started going to the parks regularly within the last couple years....Brian has truely created a monster!!!

We woke up relatively early (alright, it was like 9:30) and packed up the car for our second day out. We stopped at McDonalds for some greasy food that would stick with us for a couple hours, stopping briefly to have an argument.

We made it to Disney, and chose to start our day at Epcot. I had been fiending for some sushi for AGES and I'm addicted to the Sushi Rolls in Japan that I had last year at the Food and Wine Festival. We managed to go to F&WF about 5 times last year, and it is one of my favorite times of year because I love to eat sooooo much. I wasn't sure if the restaurant in Japan even sold sushi during regular season, but I had high hopes.

We walked into the park and took note of the new security setup. In the last couple months, we had been parking at MGM, taking the boat to the International Gateway in the World Showcase. This was the first time in quite a while that we had seen the front entrance. They are now checking bags before you can even access the ticket booths. This caused quite a jam out in front as there was only one line to get through the section. As we never have bags, we walked pretty easily through, but those with bags should be prepared to stop for a while.

We got up to the entrance and the finger scan where the lines were incredibly long. Once again, people were standing in front of only a few of the turnstiles, while others remained empty or very short. This KILLS me. Lines would move faster if only people would pay attention. We walked up to one of the empty turnstiles and were through quickly and efficiently, while other people continued to wait in lines that could have been divided in half.

The first sight of the entrance to Epcot always makes me excited. Spaceship Earth, the fountain, even the dreaded Leave a Legacy structure, means home and happiness to me. (As a side note, we love looking at the Leave a Legacy tiles, because you can find the funniest pictures and sayings. I'll have to take some pictures next time....they are hilarious....)

We walked through the always breezy walkway between the film store and Spaceship Earth, only to witness the largest line I've ever seen for SE. See, if you read any book about Disney, you'd know that early morning is the worst time to ride SE as everyone who is coming in hops on it. I'm a big advocate on planning.

It was at this point that I realized that I forgot my cell phone in the car, meaning I couldn't take any pictures. Fortunately, Brian had his and was more than willing to let me snap some pics in his phone. Brian caught the exact moment that I realized I forgot my cell phone on video, during which I muttered an explative under my breath that will not be repeated. Brian had started to record me to document the half run, half pee-pee dance that I was doing towards the bathroom when I realized my lack of cell phone. Instead of a funny video of me about to explode, he got a PG-13 rated video of me momentarily angry.

We walked into the Art of Disney, which is a ritual for our Epcot trips. We love looking at all the beautiful paintings and artwork, and we collect the panoramic park posters, so we always stop in to see what's new. While we were in there, one of the cast members noticed Brian was wearing a Star Wars shirt. (Yes, again. One of the shirts he bought from Tattooine Traders the day before....we were not matching on this day. I was wearing my black Mickey ringer t-shirt.) She pointed out the newest Jedi Mickey artwork, and Brian did some serious drooling. She also mentioned that they were releasing a full size statuette of Jedi Mickey with a light up lightsaber for Star Wars Weekends, and Brian about passed out from excitement. I know what we're buying the first weekend of SWW.

The Cast Member was a wealth of information and I can't help but love knowledgeable CM's, even if they keep talking and talking and talking. She was so sweet and very Disney to me. She also mentioned that they have finally started putting up some of the art work on the Disney website. It contains Disneyland and Disneyworld special edition art pieces and can be found at www.disneygallery.com

We left, walking towards Mission Space.

We are insanely competitive when it comes to Mission Space Race. For those that haven't done this, it's at the exit of Mission Space and it's a video game of sorts where two teams compete against each other to pilot their shuttle from Mars around the moon to dock at the space station. You can either be an astronaut and "fix" your shuttle or you can be mission control and provide astronauts with the fixes they need. We played both, but mission control is where we compete. Each fix that you provide to the astronauts is counted and our final number is compared to see who wins. This trip, I won, tieing the all time record of 28 fixes. I rule.

Heres a picture of the Mission Control Station.

After my triumphant win, we walked back to Innoventions so Brian could use the bathroom. I wasted time watching the video for the Segway, learning that they have a Segway for the golf course, equipt with a holder for a golf bags. I shared this info with Brian and received a thumbs up in return.

We wandered around Innoventions, me eyeing the little free plastic robots that I can never find the energy to stand in line for, walking past the House of Innovations where they have my hot tub/bathtub with the big screen TV built in (I call it mine, but only in my dreams.) and then moved on to Mouse Gear. Brian finds me a kids book called Kingdom Keepers by Ridley Pearson. Check out the description from amazon.com.

Using cutting-edge technology, five Florida teens have been transformed into Holographic Hosts at Disney World. Their images appear throughout the Magic Kingdom, giving visitors information about the various attractions. It all seems to be going well, until the participants begin having disturbing dreams that start affecting their everyday lives. They sneak in after the park has closed, and Wayne, a retired Imagineer, directs them in their fight against the Dark Side, embodied by Maleficent from Sleeping Beauty. Audio-animatronic pirates from The Pirates of the Caribbean travel through the Magic Kingdom in the little cars from the Buzz Lightyear ride. The dolls from It's a Small World clamber into the boats and start biting the occupants. Cinderella's Castle is filled with an eye-popping array of staircases, à la Escher. There's a certain coolness factor for the notion that people could be both human and hologram at the same time, and the illicit thrill of seeing all the things you don't normally get to see (both real and imaginary) makes this a must-read for serious Disney fans.

I don't know about you, but I think it sounds cool. Anyone read this?

We moved from Mouse Gear, out the back entrance, behind Test Track, to the World Showcase. We had been in Epcot for over an hour and hadn't ingested a drop of alcohol. It was time.

But first we fought. About a stupid comment, treated incorrectly by some oversensitive emotions. This time, we seperated for about 45 minutes, talked for about 15 minutes and moved on. Crisis averted.

After the argument, we both really needed beer. We walked to the Rose and Crown and stepped inside. The air smells special to me, comforting. It was empty, only a few people at the bar, and two really sexy Brits behind the bar. This American girl loves to hear accents, especially the lovely voices that float around in the Rose and Crown. I didn't hear any Scottish brogues, which tend to be my favorite, but I was happy none the less. We ordered two Boddingtons for inside and stood at one of the hightops, watching the crowd. Here are some pics of us enjoying our beer.

And some pictures around the bar....including some attractive bartenders.

I ran to the bathroom only to hear the wonderful music of Off Kilter. I dig bagpipes something fierce (check out Flogging Molly!) and Off Kilter was amazing.

After we finished our beers (which I finished far faster than Brian, something that he hates to admit), we decided to walk around the UK shops.

I have a confession. I've never walked through the shops in any of the countries in the world showcase. I've been to Epcot numerous times, but I've never taken the time to walk through the different areas. In all honesty, I didn't realize the countries went back so far. I know, it's sad, but I'm looking to rectify the situation.....

Before we walked through UK we decided we needed another beer. How foolish we were, our hand bare, our stomach longing for a refreshing beer. We went back into Rose and Crown and ordered another Boddington for Brian and a Bass for me. Yum.

We walked through UK and our tummies started rumbling from the smell of fish and chips. But I had my heart set on some sushi from Japan. So we walked on.

I wanted to stop in France because I had heard about Belle's Library.

Where Brian is addicted to Star Wars, I am obsessed with Belle. (Duh, look at my name....) I have a serious issue with the lack of Belle merchandise Disney offers. For example, every princess has their own Christmas stocking...every princess, except Belle. I'm starting a Belle rights movement. Anyone care to join? End rant.

Here are some pics from Belle's Library.

Another thing I love in France is all the Monet merchandise. Fantastic.

On our way out of France, we saw the cutest little girl. I'm just beginning to have baby envy, but only when I see the adorable ones with wonder in their eyes because of Disney. This little girl was about 2 or 3, with blond hair in pigtails, a pair of white sunglasses and a pink sundress. She had one of the kid harnesses on and came tottering towards her mom on unsteady feet to get a bite of what I assume was ice cream or mousse, and stopped below her mom with her cute little mouth open ready to take a bite....it was the most adorable thing I'd seen yet that day.

"I could stand here and watch her all day!" Brian gushed unnaturally....I think he's started to feel my baby envy too!

We walked past Moracco, eager to get to Japan for the sushi I had been longing for. We decided to go into the shops in Japan and had a good time searching the anime and checking out teapots. Brian was excited to find some Robotech merchandise, something he didn't expect to see. I drooled over the pearl jewelry and we laughed over the obscenely shaped massage tools.

We moved back into the food section of the store and decided on buying some Pocky. Brian had previously worked with some people that were addicted to the Japanese snack and we wanted to try it for ourselves. We chose the strawberry version and paid for our purchase.

Finally, we made it up to Yakitori House for some much needed sushi. I ordered the Tokyo sushi rolls and Brian had the Shogun Combination. Both were absolutely amazing. The sushi rolls contain 8 rolls and were soooooo good. We also got two Kirin to continue our beer drinking.

This is what happens when sushi gets in my way....

Sorry, forgot to take a picture until after they were all gone.

Here are some pics of Japan and the waterfall.

We finished our meal with some Pocky, which is fantastic!! There are different flavors and I can't wait to try them all!!

After we filled our bellies with fantastic Japanese food, we walked on, past Italy, through Germany (stopping briefly at the train set to see if we could find any hidden mickeys...we are still unsuccessful), through China, to Mexico.

In Mexico we took some silly pictures with sombreros....

We checked out the wooden animals on the way out of Mexico and I was frightened by the giraffe with human face in the glass case. So frightened, I couldn't even take a pic.

We moved on to Norway, the land of my people. Checked out the trolls and tried on some ridiculous viking hats. Looked through the Christmas ornaments and the obscenely positioned snowmen figurines. Now I, above most people, usually have my mind in the gutter. It's something I'm used to and I pick up some things that most people would not take sexually. But these snowmen were in many different "positions" and there is no way that I could be the only one who noticed these guys. Or am I?

Heres the viking ship outside of Norway.

On our way out, we stopped in the Cool Club to check and see if they had my very favorite drink....no, not Beverly....Krest Ginger Ale from Mozambique....and they had it...yum...although I almost did get spit on by a group of teenagers....they had just tried Beverly....ode to the sticky floor....

Finally we stopped in Innoventions West and took some crazy picture postcards...

There you have it, our weekend away...I had my beloved sushi, ate some Pocky, took some silly pics and had a nice relaxing weekend at Disney.

Next weekend, we're thinking about tackling Animal Kingdom...I know, it's a holiday weekend, Expedition Everest just officially opened and I'm probably crazy, but only time will tell!

Also posting this afternoon, my original "drinking around the world experience"...be warned, it's an insane amount of alcohol but a whole lot of fun...

I am really enjoying your report & loving the pics! Thanks so much for sharing...keep 'em comin!

We will be going to AK this weekend to try our hand at EE. Any requests for pictures or ideas you'd like to hear about for next weeks trip report??
