Disney Advertising on TV

I live in WI, just curious if anyone else is noticing the heavily promoted take your family for a WDW vacation commercials?

Why does it seem that I view a Disney commercial on TV everyday! OF course, my kids see it and they BEG to go back! (trying to save the $$ to surprise them with a trip in 2 years, but if I can't I don't want to get their hopes up)..

It's usually the family of 4 can stay for 1500.00, so I always use the excuse to my kids that sorry, we are not a family of 4, so we can't get in on that great deal (Great Parenting I know.)

Now, if I can just find the money tree I buried out back so we can get there sooner!!

Be careful with this, lol! My just turned 6 year old came to me and said she saw this great deal on disney.com and we can go for ONLY $1500. When I explained that the deal was for a family of 4 and we have 5 in our family, she said we could leave our 1 year old at Grandma's house. When I tried to explain that she is part of our family and it wouldn't be fair to leave her out of the fun, my 3 year old joined in the conversation and said we could drop our one year old off at the local playground so she could have a good time while we were gone and we could pick her up when our trip was over!

My DS6 also saw these commercials, especially the $1500. I tried to explain to him that it is a good deal, but we still have to get down there, that the plane ride is extra. No worries though. I still think I will be able to pull off the surprise trip for later this spring.

Though, I don't personally care for the superhero costume commercial. It is a great message, but it is a little silly watching Superdad with his leaf blower

We finally figured out how to get the inital cost (resort, passes, and airfare) under $1000 for all 4 of us...So we started going 2x a year! Wahoo! Pay attention to Disney's rules and use them to your advantage. It makes a big price difference. We had been going about every 18 months relaying in AAA discounts and the random kickin discount code. I started renting points in off season and it made a HUGE difference in the price. That rocks! Good luck!!!

These stories are so funny, kids will think of anything!
I've noticed them too. Dh makes fun of me about being Disney obsessed and then we'll see one of those commercials and then I'll tell him, how can I get away from it!! Commercials, stuff in the mail, advertisements in my magazines....I'm surrounded!!! Dh jokes they're secretly brainwashing us.
The superhero one is hysterical. I've only seen it once, but I hope I see it again.

I noticed all of the commercials too! Especially on A&E and the Food Network. Unfortunately, children don't understand the fine print at the bottom of the screen that tends to vanish very quickly.....My niece suggested that all her mom had to do was save $1.00 a day for 1500 days! The poor thing . If only she knew there are only 365 days in a whole year!

Ahh, to be back in a childs frame of mind. Kids are great, and she is right. By her method, it would only take a little over 4 years. But there is absolutley nothing like kids logic. She is a very clear thinker!

Callalilly - PLEASE SHARE YOUR SECRETS!! How long do you stay/how many days on your passes to do this! If I could swing this or even close to it I would be there in a heartbeat! My airfare alone for 1st trip last Oct. was 1000.00 & I thought getting it for 200.00/person was good!

While we're talking about these ads (which yes, I see everyday, too!!), can anyone explain to me why in the little print at the bottom of this fantastic deal, Disney states this is for "2 adults, 1 junior and 1 child;"....since when does Disney recognize a "junior?!" And what exactly, in their mind, IS a "junior?" They sell tickets for either adult or child - nothing in between. I've never heard of them making that distinction when booking a room, either....Is this new?...or some new advertising thing to make you think you got a great deal?!

I would also like to know the distinction between a child, a junior and an adult. As far as I know anyone 9 and under is a child and anyone over 9 is an adult regarding park passes. I also thought the hotel room was free for children under 17 staying with an adult.

Anyone have an explanation?

It's a distinction they make because people (understandably) get mad when you call a 10-yr old an "adult". I think in case a family of four has two children over the age of 10 they will probably charge more than the stated $1500, because the park passes that are included in the pkg would cost more if they were bought ala carte. That is the only reason I would think they would make that distinction. I hope that makes sense.

The best kept secret is that you can rent points from a DVC member and stay at a deluxe DVC resort for 20-60% off the rack rate. DVC members who have extra points sell them on the rent/trade board. If you avoid Friday night and Saturday night stays you can save a lot since Disney more than doubles the points required for those nights. The DVC resorts are the Villas at the Wilderness Lodge, Beach Club, Saratoga, Old Key west and Boardwalk. Be sure to plan ahead since these resorts are owned by members and fill up fast. Also you will be renting from a DVC member so there is risk. If you go to the Disney website like you are making a reservation you will see Disney Vaction club homes. If you click on it you will see the DVC resorts and you can take a virtual tour of the rooms. These rooms are a lot nicer and bigger than the normal rooms. A sample of the savings - you can get into Wilderness Lodge studio at the Villas for one week in July for approximately $1,474. If you skip Friday and Saturday you can get in for approximately $770. If you rent from a DVC there is no daily maid service.

About those commercials......Every time we see them, I say, "I wanna be a hero! I wanna be a hero TODAY!" My kids love it.

That under $1500 must be a value resort stay during the value season, right? With regular tickets (no hoppers/water park options)?

I did notice the one child/one junior thing. I guess it's cheaper if you have 2 young kids. I also wonder if you can get a good package deal with just 1 adult and 2 kids. How much would that shave off the cost?
