Disney’s Magic Band FAQ Link

This will be their only visit to WDW, and there are 5 in the family. They are staying in DVC. Will they be issued room keys that will have their ticket information on them?

Thanks
As the PP's have said, no reason to buy a MB. Just to clarify, there is no ticket information on either the MB or the room key. All those do is connect to the MDE account that has the ticket info.

If this is their only visit to WDW, then no it absolutely isn't required. I would only really recommend getting one if they plan on going often. You will be issued a key card that you can use instead. You can use your phone too, though I've never been able to get it to open a resort room no matter how many times I've tried.
I can confirm - the two systems are not connected. You need an MB or a card to open the resort room door. That includes gyms, pools, after hours - everything. Not sure about charging at the restaurants and shops but pretty sure you can't do that with your watch/phone either - but you can with the card. The card can come from the resort concierge or in-park guest services.

Our bands are really old, as in well over 6 years old. I only want them to load our AP's, DAS to check into the park and rides. Will they still work for this use? I am most sure they battery is dead and there is no recharge on them.

We used our MBs from 2018 on our trip this past April 2023 & both worked perfectly for everything but ride photos 👍.

You will be fine with your old MB's.

You don't actually load your AP, etc onto the band. All that info is contained in the My Disney Experience. You band is simply a key that tells the system where to find your info.

The battery in these devices is only used for "long range" kind of things like on-ride photos. Since you don't care about those you won't be missing anything.

Thank you so much, we collected all the colours and saved them for all these years. I am glad we can keep using them.

I apologize if this answer is somewhere in this long thread....I just want to make sure that I understand correctly. My family and my sister's family are all on 1 resort reservation (DVC). My sister is listed as the primary person on the reservation. She has already purchased magic bands for her family through shopdisney. My husband and I are fine with using older magic bands. We do have to purchase a new MB+ for my son since his old one is a child size (and he wants one). We want to order through MDE. In order to do this...it's my understanding that we have to decline magic bands for everybody else in our party besides him. Is this correct? Also, will his magic band be sent to my sister's address since she is the main person on the reservation? Is there any way to change this since she is not in the same town as me? Thank you!! We haven't been to Disney since 2019 so lots of new stuff!

You need to select everyone on the reservation and either decline a new band or select one to purchase. You can change the shipping address when you get to that portion of the purchase process.

Coming to the world in November…longtime MK DL user. My hubby is coming with. He has no Disney acccount…I have everything on mine and on MDE on phone. I have MB+.

I use DAS. Will I be able to scan us both into rides with just my band or will he need one too? I have an extra band ( I collect for different outfits) but my understanding is that someone else can use your bands, correct?

if he doesn’t need one, I’d just as soon save money as this will probably be his only trip (he hates DL).

same situation will arise in December whe. I go to DL with a friend. She is on my account and before I’ve always just used my phone to scan us into rides. But for me, MB is so much faster!!! I love it.

TIAfor your help. These boards are invaluable!

They will not need MBs but they will require something to access the park. Easiest thing to do is to request a plastic card at the entrance to your first park and they will use this for park entrance and LL access, etc.

You are correct that you cannot use your old MB for another guest. They are non-transferrable.

That still doesn’t answer the question of whether or not you can scan multiple people with one MB like you can the phone ? Since I have both tickets in my account, I can use phone to scan in another person. Can you do this with a MB?

at least, this is the way at DL. Perhaps WDW is different.

If not using a phone, each person requires their own individual access device into the parks. Your MB is linked to your individual access. You cannot grant access to another person using your MB.

I have never heard of a MB granting access to more than one person. If that is the case at DL, it definitely is not the way is works at WDW. A MB at WDW only grants access to the owner of the band.

Thanks…guess I’ll be keeping phone handy then.

You can but once you enter the first park the other guests can be issued a plastic card that they tap just like you tap your MB. No need to use your phone as it’s definitely slower than tapping a card.

There was one evening last week when we hopped after some quiet time in our room. As we approached the taps at DHS my daughter realized she’d forgotten her MB in the room. No problem at all. We pulled up her ticket on my phone, she entered that way while the CM gave her a card to use in the park that evening for LL and we also kept in on our bag in case she needed it another day. Easy access and a fun souvenir.
